Title: Spaying in season?
Post by: souffle on December 31, 2013, 17:12:55 PM
My friend got a kitten in August and she is still very tiny. She is booked in to be spayed just after the New Year however on Boxing Day she came in to season  Naturally she is being kept locked in and is yowling herself silly.
Can you spay a cat in season or do you have to wait till they are over it? How long will she last in season?

its my understanding they can be spayed at any time.

Stray cats I've rescued have all been newly pregnant by the time they've come to me, which means terminations are inevitable I'm afraid, but in very small girls this is preferable to the dangers associated with allowing early pregnancies to go full term.

Happy to be corrected though. Glad she's looking to get the spay done asap.  :)

Thanks everyone I'll let her know. She was calling the vet tomorrow so they sound likely to go ahead.

My friend's Tilly is booked in for her spay on Monday. She is less flirty now but they did say it could be done when she liked.

I vaguely recollect that it is marginally safer when not in season, but our angel Millie was in season and no probs
