I know I don't post on here these days, but just wanted to let anyone that remembers her, know that we lost Alice to CRD last Thursday. Although her health hadn't been great for some time (she was diagnosed CRD in May), she lost her appetite and went downhill over about 5 days. Rather than subjecting her to a 5 mile trip, I spoke to the vet next door. They were very understanding. She was on a drip from the Monday til the Thursday with no improvement - in fact her creatinine went off the scale as well as the urea that was already too high to register.
The vet said that without x-raying her, he thought she had severe arthritis of the spine and had probably been hit by a car at some point before we adopted her :(
We miss our girl. :'(

Sending lots of love and hugs to you and OH.

Very sorry to hear this Mark  One thing's for sure, Alice lived like a Queen in her time with you and your OH - something she could only have dreamed of before you adopted her :grouphug:
RIP Alice, safe and sound at the Bridge by now xx

:thanks: everyone
I know most know what we are going through right now. Because of my situation, I spent most of my time with her and didn't quite realise how much was geared towards her - so obviously there is a big void.
We think she was happy here, and although she was never 100%, her real quality of life only deteriorated in those last few days.
Jut need to remember 'Princess Alice' in front of 'her' wood burner on her heated bed, or lying in the sun. I have to smile when I think of the times we sat here sweltering so she was comfortably warm :Luv2:

I'm so sorry to the news about Alice. She really did have the most wonderful life with you and even at the end you managed to make things easier for her. I can well understand how big that hole is for you after all these years of putting her interests first.
Sleep tight Alice, young and free again. Send your humans a rainbow.

Thanks Liz & Carol
She really was a special girl. Even Kylie sensed she wasn't strong and never tried it on with her. Even with Laz she sometimes hides behind a door to ambush, but Alice gave her a couple of firm hisses at the beginning and was always shown respect :Luv2:
We had sort of made up with the vet next door gradually. This time last year Laz was blocked with poo and I was in the middle of trying to unblock him with olive oil when the practice manager knocked with a bottle of wine for xmas. I told her the situation and she said to bring him in straight away. They sorted him out and wouldn't take any payment. We had a similar situation last month and I bit the bullet and asked them. They said to bring him straight in. The unblocked him again and only charged me £11. I had read that the vet that saw him did acupuncture for cats. I asked about trying it with Alice and he said he was happy to give it a go and also another treatment similar to TENS. Sadly, we never got the chance to try. The head vet said that he was dreading telling me as after years of not speaking to each other, the first time he treated a cat for me, he was going to have to pts. Anyway, I have been impressed with the time they give and their knowledge. One of the vets even told me about a new CRD treatment called Semintra that I had already looked into myself. He wants to get Laz on it ASAP as he thinks it 'stops CRD (CRF) in its tracks'. Having now lost 3 to the same thing in just under 3 years, I am keen to try.

What a beautful girl Alice was. Rest peacefully, little one.
I too have lost a beautiful little Tortie to CRF this year and can understand some of what you are going through.
*hugs* to you.

I’m so sorry Mark. What a beautiful girl she was & so lucky to have found such a loving home with you.
I lost my Jake to CRF at the end of October and it’s heartbreaking how quickly they deteriorate.
I think caring for our companions through an illness like this makes the bond even stronger and the loss all the more difficult to take.

Hard to believe it is 3 years since we had to say goodbye to Alice. We think about her often (as we do Kylie and Laz who have gone since, and Willow & Clapton who went before her.
