Please meet Petra. I rescued her 2 weeks ago from a filthy, flea-infested flat in North London. Petra was one of 10 cats living with a dog who bullied them so they spent most of their lives up on the counter, denied (by the dog) of much human affection. Petra was bald in places and covered with scabs, most likely as a result of a flea allergy. Her sister, I am told, was recently found dead in the hallway. When Petra came to me, she had little or no appetite, was constipated (most likely as a result of all the hair she had swallowed), and was having trouble keeping her food down. Almost everything was vomited up, undigested, shortly afterwards. After many vet visits and a full blood panel, it was discovered that she was fighting an infection of some sort and was treated accordingly. She is now eating (and regaining weight she lost while she was ill!) using the litter tray normally, and her fur is beginning to grow back although she will look rather “moth eaten” for some time still. The vet has given her a clean bill of health now so all she needs now is a loving home.
Petra is okay with calm, placid dogs and is a bit grumpy with other cats, so while she does not HAVE to be an only cat, she does require a home where she doesn’t have to share with a dense cat population (if that makes sense). She is fine with my 5-year-old and 9-year-old children, although she might scratch if she is upset or handled roughly (which is completely understandable in my opinion).
Petra is approximately 6 years old and is spayed, flea treated, wormed, and is FIV/FeLV negative.
If you would like to give this princess the happy ending she so deserves, please email me at laoghaire@hotmail.com or PM me for a telephone number. All adoptions will be subject to a home visit and and adoption fee will be payable.
Here are some photos of Petra when she first arrived. Now that she is allowed on the floor, she has proved to be a very playful girl and I've never met a cat who likes catnip more than she does!

And here is a more recent one taken of her. Her belly is still quite bald but the fur is starting to grow back nicely.

Thanks. :) She such a lovely, affectionate girl who is trying to make up for all the cuddles and fuss she has missed out on over the years.

Poor little thing,i wonder about the other cats in there, some"people"need shooting.Good for you, rescuing her.x

Hi Catgirl, the other cats are thankfully all in rescue now--and at least one of them has been rehomed already.
Petra, being black, has the odds stacked against her a bit which is a real shame because she's very sweet. She will come up and gently tap you with her paw if she wants you to give her a fuss. :)

Here is a video of her showing off her playful, kittenish side--she doesn't act 6 years old, does she? :evillaugh: And this is actually a bit sedate compared to how she was playing earlier.

Thankk you. :) I think she is, too. :Luv: I just hope she won't be waiting too long for a home.
-
Aww bless her :Luv: I bet she didn't have nmany, if any, toys in her old home :(
Does your rescue have a CatChat page? Might be worth asking to put her up as 'top cat'?
-
I kind of took Petra in off my own back--well, I was supposed to get rescue help with vet bills but it didn't turn out the way I had expected. So I don't have a Cat Chat rehoming page, myself--although I have advertised her on their forum.
