Hi
Not sure if I am allowed to post this kind of think in here, please delete if its not allowed
We have had an older 'stray' cat handed in to us (please see my other post for full details - Urgent help / foster home / warm shead needed for older gent by wednesday - Berkshire)
I am looking at raising some penny's towards his blood tests and potential treatment (providing a foster home can be found) as I do not have the funds to pay for it all myself, we are not able to do anything until Wednesday as he hasn't been with us for 7 days yet, but I was wondering if people would be willing to pledge towards his treatment (aprox £50 is needed for his blood tests)
Any help would be appreciated :innocent:
Thanks :)
Rachel

Hi Rachel
I would be willing to chip in for this little ones' tests, do you have a paypal address that donations can be sent to? I'm guessing you've already tried most of these but there may be one or two you weren't aware of - http://www.catchat.org/adoption/berks.html It may also be worthwhile posting on the Animal Lifeline forum, they have worked wonders in the past http://www.animallifelineuk.org/forum/forum.php
Here's his other thread for anyone wanting to read about him http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,43502.msg776266.html#msg776266
We have to add this disclaimer to any non-official fundraiser...
[gmod]It is up to the individual member to donate their money to a donation or fund request and Purrs advises strongly to carry out full checks that funds would be used for the stated purpose. Purrs cannot be held responsible for members private donations to a request that is not an official Purrs fundraisier or collection.[/gmod]

Thanks helen :)
I do have paypal, but want to hold of taking donations till we have had him for 7 days, (Wednesday) more of a pledge for now :) to see if will be possible to get the test done
will try the other sites you have suggested
thanks :)
-
I'd like to help with a donation too, Rachel.
I'll be watching these threads come Wednesday. Fingers crossed someone reports him lost before then. I'll keep checking NPR and AnimalSearch for a lost report. Where was he handed in - postcode?
What's a thyroidectomy? Don't HT cats usually get meds as opposed to surgery?
-
Thanks sheilarose :)
they can have meds or special food, but if I am rehoming him, would rather have the thyroidectomy done (if possible) so the new owner dosn't have the cost / worry with meds, basically they remove the over active thyroid gland, quite a simple/ quick op if the vet is used to doing it. Have just had it done very successfully on my 19 yrold cat.... would need to raise somewhere in the region of £300 for that!!
-
Hi Rachel, i am happy to donate towards this little guy tests too.
I will keep an eye on this thread.
-
Thanks papillon , :thanks:
-
After a thyroidectomy he'll be hypothyroid and need daily doses of thyroxine which need to be monitored regularly to ensure the correct dose. However, this is far easier than treating an hyper-active thyroid with meds. (I have a hypoactive thyroid and just take a pill each day and have annual blood tests, though initially the tests were more regular to check the levels of thyroxine needed.)
Have you tried taking him to the PDSA? I don't know whether you qualify (benefits or low income) but you could phone and ask. They will treat him for free but will expect a donation, which is only fair considering all the help they give.
-
He wouldn't go hypo as cats have thyroid tissue elsewhere in there body that kicks in to compensate, I work as student vet nurse and have had thyroidectemy on my own cat and she is 100% better since , being hyperthyroid was seriously affecting her liver, since the op her liver perimeters are back to normal, unfortunately not in Pdsa catchment
-
Worth posting his photo on here too, Rachel, he's quite appealing and someone may take a shine to him here who hasn't seen the other thread. :cat rub:
-
Is he a Langley cat, Rachel? Or brought in from somewhere else (I used to live in Chalvey!)
-
Hi Rachel
Happy to help this darlin lad with funds from the Buster fund we have for needy cats.
Which vets will he have the treatment at? :) Can ya let me have their payment info so I can send direct to them and what to pop as a reference so they know it's for his treatment :)
well done hun for helping this darlin lad
-
Thanks tan - have sent you a PM
picture as requested :Luv:
-
Oh Tan whst a lovely thing to do ... so pleased the Buster fund can help this lad.
Hope you don't mind .... I've rotated his pic (he looks so much better the right way up lol)
-
I have such a big crush on this kitty. :Luv:
-
He does look better the right way up :) couldn't figure how to do it
all he needs is a warm place to sleep and some food... sure he would settle for a warm shed.... he is desperate :innocent:
-
How is he with other cats, Rachel? I guess it's hard to tell until he's been in a foster situation for a while.
-
Not to sure, hes a bit hissy at the vets but i don't think its a fair test of his personality
Just a litte update, he is still with us, dont think the owners are going to come forward.... had him out today to stretch his legs.... such a good boy :) followed me into the consult room, then put himself back to bed
Had a quote from the vets I use for blood tests today looking at a total of £90 to include FIV/FeLV , should be getting the tests run on thursday if all goes to plan, thanks to everyone for their help and support
-
Hubby wants to know your vet policy on fiv, rachel? We have a mixed household here.
-
Hi Rachel, got your pm and made a payment via paypal.
Well done for helping this little boy and best of luck
He needs a name ;)
-
OK, Paypal donation on its way, Rachel. ;D
Good luck little guy. :luck:
-
 thanks sheliarose, papillon, tan and Helen for your donations, you have all been more than generous .... :) he has been called timmy .... think I have watched one to many South Park episodes!! all he needs now is a nice home and clear blood tests..... Keeping everything crossed
-
Funny you should say that. When I saw his name on the jpeg I read it in the Southpark Timmy's voice.
Fingers crossed for clear blood tests!
-
Thats how he gets greated every morning when i go in.... poor boy
here he is enjoying a head rub :)
-
He is lush. :Luv: I hope someone can offer a space for him soon. I'm still asking around.
-
Any news on this little sweetheart?
-
Not much to report, will be taking bloods tomorrow, still desperate for a foster place, needs to be gone by next weekend :(
-
Don't be too worried about the results of the tests. Your vet is probably running snap tests which can give false positives, so if you get a positive, have a virus test run. This takes longer and costs more, but is more reliable.
As for FIV, I've come to the conclusion that it's relatively insignificant. See Celia Hammond's rescue website where she has a page detailing why this is the case. I think CatChat also have a page about FIV.
I hope this guy gets a good home.
-
I hope somewhere can be found for him, he looks like such a sweetie :Luv2: older cats are great companions
-
Do you have his results yet, Rachel? :crossed:
-
Hoping is good news with Timmy's results.
-
I droped them off today to be run, the blood and urine has to be sent to a lab, should have the FIV/FELV results tomorrow..... if they are ok and his pesky fleas have vacated then i will bring him home for the weekend as he has been couped up all week..... we usualy shut the strays in the spare consult room but its to hot in there if you close the door at the moment:(
Any further ideas for foster space?? getting desperate :(
-
I'm still trying for you, and am following up a few possible leads but there is nothing definite yet.
-
thanks darwin..... I do appreciate it :)
-
It's Dawn, actually. :evillaugh: I've been pestering everyone I know, and when I think I've exhausted my list I wind up thinking of someone else to ask. ;)
-
god I am so dyslexic!! sorry dawn!!
-
It's okay--Darwin is a cool name, but it might have caused confusion regarding my gender. :evillaugh:
Please give him big cuddles from me tomorrow.
-
Waiting with bated breath for his results. :-: If he is hyper T will your vet do the thyroidectomy?
-
Got some of the results through , he's got kidney disease :( poor boy
-
oh bless him, bad?
-
Well, at least that can be managed if it isn't too bad. Have you got the T4 results back?
-
T4 is fine, think his kidney problems have been going on for some time..... Dawn, I don't know if the place u have found would still take him, will try and ring u later if that's ok?
-
Yes, that will be fine. Anytime before 6pm or after 7pm will be good.
-
So, no thyroidectomy then? ;D
-
Has he been able to come home with you for the weekend?
-
Yes :Luv2: he made it onto my bed 5 mins after he arrived :) no thyroidectemy .... But that would have been better than kidney disease , sorry I haven't called u yet dawn, we both fell asleep as soon as I sat down ! Just woken up
-
That's okay, Rachel. :) I'm up now if you fancy ringing, or I'm available all day tomorrow.
-
Has the vet given any idea how serious the kidney disease is, Rachel? Is it CRF? What is the treatment - Special diet/meds etc?
Poor little Timmy, he's so sweet and we're rooting for him here. Is there any more we can do to help?
(Actually if OH hadn't put his foot down I'd have welcomed him to the Tuft Club with open arms :shy: )
-
We are still waiting on UPC results before we know if he needs fortekor, currently renal diet and glucosamine will prob start on tramadol and ipakatine
Hopefully going to foster place on wens, waiting for an email, thanks for every ones help
-
Fingers crossed!
-
Have you heard back from them yet, Rachel?
-
No :( sent them an email yesterday
-
I hope they get back to you soon. :( Did you mention his kidney issues in the email?
-
Yes, still nothing :s
-
Hopefully they will soon--if not and you want me to try getting through again, do please let me know.
-
How did the weekend go? I bet he enjoyed spending it with you. :Luv:
-
Apart from a misshap with my rug it was good , he's still there , curled up on my bed :) is there anychance u could chase up his foster place dawn I still haven't heard from them :(
-
A mishap with your rug?
Yes, I'll chase them up and see if I get anywhere. Did you get the other results back regarding his kidneys yet?
-
He mistook it for a toilet ! Thanks dawn , will chase up the results tomorrow
-
Aww, he's probably a bit confused. Is he usually litter trained, Rachel?
-
An elderly foster I once had actually weed on me on her first night. :evillaugh: Luckily, she was perfectly clean after that.
-
he has generally been fine, i think the problem is he is wobbly / arthritic so makes a bit of a mess when he uses the tray anyway.... we haven't had any more rug mishaps since.... plus his poop is a bit soft due to the diet change so that doesn't help.... poor boy!
-
Aww bless him :) The kitten i have here with me went to the red tent tonight and weed in there, his tray is red too so i am sure he got confused poor baby.
Sending good vibes for the results .
-
Oh bless his heart. :Luv:
I emailed the rescue earlier this evening but haven't heard anything yet and don't expect to until tomorrow (I hope!). He is such a sweetheart.
-
fingers / toes / paws crossed!!
-
Hi Rachel, I've PMed you.
How is Timmy today--is he still at yours? And have you got the UPC results yet?
-
Hey, yes he's still with me, curled up on my bed, still waiting..... They sent me an email today with his USG.... Which isn't what I asked for :-: have just re emailed them ...... Will try the rescue place once I have figured out how to say her name!!
-
I think it's pronounced the same as "Erin".
-
thanks...... bloody vets haven't run the UPC.... because they didn't know what I meant despite me asking three times for it to be done and asking for the urine to be sent with the blood to the lab last Thursday in case it needed to be run... rather pissed off!!! why not ask me if you weren't sure?!! rant over....
Have had an email back, just trying to get hold of his foster lady :)
-
That's very annoying about his tests, but great news about the new fosterer. :)
-
hes going to essex on Thursday :) :)
-
Hooray! :Luv:
-
Oh that's great news. ;D Will they need to do more blood tests now? :shify:
-
Not for a while I don't think, going to take all his results with him along with the remaning funds
-
Good luck, today! :)
-
Wonderful news wishing the little guy all the best.
-
Hope all has gone well today
-

-
Did everything go okay, Rachel?
-

-
How sad :( Oh Rachel you must be gutted.  RIP Timmy, you were saved sweetheart.

So sad but at least he knew love, warmth and kindness in his final weeks and wasn't left alone to die on the streets
RIP Timmy, safe and sound at the Bridge by now xx
-
Oh how sad .. poor Timmy
As Helen said even though it is very sad that he has gone to the bridge his last few weeks have been filled with love and caring and he wasn't alone at the end
RIP little soul xxx
-
Oh what a horrible shock!
Poor Timmy, such a shame that he wasn't able to enjoy a life of comfort for longer but so glad that his last few weeks were full of love.

Life is cruel sometimes. RIP Timmy :( :(
