Title: Loose skin
Post by: jezebel on March 30, 2013, 12:08:03 PM
Bass seems to suddenly have a lot of loose skin on her. She's always had a bit but I'm sure it's got worse lately. She's eating normally and doesn't seem to have lost any weight - could it be her age (she's 12)? I also wondered if it might be dehydration - although she eats mainly wet food, she doesn't drink very often. I dont want to cart her off to the vet unnecessarily but I'm concerned it might be a symptom of something.

Have you tried the pinch test for dehydration - where you pull up the skin on the back of the neck and see how long it takes to go back down... http://virtuavet.wordpress.com/2010/09/01/how-to-tell-cat-dehydration/ You can contrast the time taken with Drum!

Okay, so she's not dehydrated!

Possibly it's just old age then (I have the same age-related lack of collagen!).

That's good!  :) Whereabouts on her did you notice the loose skin?

She has it all over - apart from her legs.

She's probably just getting old(er), poor thing.  :)
