For last couple of months a long hair ginger/white cat has been visiting us waiting patiently under the cars in front . As he was in a good condition i thought he is just being greedy and is after food and ofcourse being told by neighbours dont feed him which is fine as i dont like some one feed my cat if she/he visits them but then as i get up at all hours to take Felicity out i noticed him being there waiting :( I was a bit concerened seeing him out there in rain and snow and thought if he is a full Tom there is a chance he might be lost . Only last year i took a full Tom to Mayhew and found out he was chiped and been lost for a year!
So i started puting food out under the car and thought with time i might be able to get close to him and have him checked for microchip, he hisses every time he sees me and runs under the parked cars but the comes out for the food . I havent seen any notice of lost cat in our area but then he could be from miles away and lost.
Last night i fed him around 12 and watched him cross the road and disappear :( When i took Felicity out at 4 this morning he was out watching through my window and then i noticed he is not walking right , he went under the car holding his back leg up so i fed him and sat out with him till it was light there is no sign og injury so am not sure if he is been in a fight or involved in Rta. I decided to follow him and he crossed the road very slowly and just disappeared in some ones back gd , i am really concern as he walked very slowly and seemed in pain. There are lots of Foxes out at night and dogs which are not on lead :-: He was bachk this afternoon and stayed for a long time so i left the window and front door open and tried to encourage him to come in but he is too timid and left after neighbour arrived with their baby.
I have left a message for Mayhew th see if i can borrow their trap but since my mobile was stolen i have lost all direct numbers so the message was left on general line and no one has got back to me :tired:
I would appreciate if any one here has any idea or thought what is best to do right now.
I also have some photo of him taken few weeks back, if any one can help me to put them here i could email them.
Thank you for reading this and any advice.

I think you're doing everything you can at the moment Pav, sounds like he's not too badly injured if he's getting away before you're able to get close. That's not to say he doesn't need his leg looking at though  Are you able to go through old mobile bills to see what numbers you called for Mayhew in the past? Or maybe drop them an email instead.
Feel free to email me the pic and I can post for you. Also just wanted to say if ever one of my boys was lost or hurt I really hope that they were to come across somebody like you
-
Helen, thank you so much.
I emailed you the pictures, and just would like to ask people who check lost cat sites to keep an eye for this little guy.
Thank you
-
Here he is :Luv2: Have you got close enough to see if he is definitely a 'he' not a 'she'?
Edit to add second pic
-
Helen its very hard to say the sex , i watched him this afternoon while he/she was under the car and was holding the leg upand washing himself but he is very fluffy. Do you think its a she?
If i dont hear from Mayhew by tomorrow afternoon then i will pop in on Tuesday morning, i know they might not be able to take him/her in as they are replacing the cattery roof and all the cats are with foster people but if i get the trap then i can take him to my vet. such worry :(
-
I don't think 'he' looks like a girl particularly, just that it's impossible to tell the sex of cat without getting close up so 'he' might well be a 'she'! Will stick with writing he for now as I hate calling animals 'it' :shy: He does look to be in good condition fur wise though, I would have thought that a long haired stray that wasn't being groomed would look scruffier than that. You've seen him in the flesh so to speak, do you think he looks scruffy/matted?
-
Tbh his coat looks in a very good condition unless its matted underneath, that is what puzzeled me.
If he has a home why would he sit under a car in rain/ snow at all hours ?
I am hoping there is a home and he has been home since this afternoon and his humans take care of the leg but if i see him early hours of morning then i presume he is stray.
Do you think its wise to print his picture and put it through the houses in our street , but then what do i say
found cat/ injured cat or ...?
-
A paper collar would be ideal but sounds like there's no way you'd get close enough :shy: Might be worth dropping a few notes through the neighbours doors to see if they know where he comes from and whether he does have a home or is lost.
-
Thank you Helen. I have been out and checked but he is not there so hoping that he has a human some where and they have kept him in and he will be looked after.
I will print some posters today incase he is back later.
Thankyou.
-
I finished with Felicity around 6 and thought i go back to bed for another hour but then the light out side my front door kept coming on so i got up and there he was :( I opened the door and he started crying its first time i heared him and i think he is a boy very deep voice :naughty: So i went down to prepare some food and as i came out of kitchen there he was in my landing but as soon as he saw me he run out :shy:
I sat with him while eating his food and noticed he is puting pressure on his leg not like yesterday which he was keeping it up so its good i think?
Once finished he just sat there very relaxed and washed him self :Luv2: It was very windy and bit wet and i felt he wanted to come in but then i had to come and get ready and didnt want to risk in case he come in and hide. I will leave the door open this eve while i am in and see if he try to get in. Not sure if i need the trap now have to keep an eye on his leg and see how it goes.
When i left for work he was sitting outside main door and washing him self. Bless
Helen once again thank you for your help and support.
-
His coat looks to be in excellent condition and very white fur for a stray cat Pav :-: Very much hope he continues to put more weight on his leg  As long as his leg continues to improve, the only possible worry might be that he has only recently become lost?
It would be so nice if we could somehow know for certain who each cat in the neighbourhood "belongs" to. Only 3 of our 8 have collars for one reason or another and I do worry about people thinking the others might be stray. I put my faith in the fact they all look clean and well groomed though and my increasing notoriety as the local crazy cat lady :innocent:
-
He is beautiful Pav but sounds very shy and scared but he is obviously wanting very much to come in.
I hope he will be brave enough in next couple of days and then maybe he will let you get closer, he is so lucky to have found you ;D
Then you maybe able to get him checked for a chip and hopefully find out if he has an owner............who doesnt seem to be looking for him unless he has travelled a long way.
I do hope his leg is OK his so very very handsome ;D
-
He is beautiful boy isnt he? and like everyone has said his furr does look in good clean condition (even his tail, which with 2 longhairs, is the first to look be draggled from sitting on the wet floor when caught in the rain :-[ )
If he is a stray, i would bet that he hasnt been straying for long. Perhaps what ever caused his injury made him run off in shock and he has lost his way? Whatever his story, it sounds like you're slowly gaining his trust and that can only be a good thing! you'll find him curled on your bed next time!!
Bless him x
-
Thanks Rosella, i put the posters through the houses on one side of the street and will do the other side tomorrow hoping some one recognise him :-:
Gill he is a very good looking boy , i would like to find out if he is chiped or not . Do you think i should stop feeding him?
Fc he has been around for a while , i was thinking if he is a full Tom then that might be the reason for him straying.
I havent heared from Mayhew and was going to go there this morning but i think i wait a bit longer and see how it goes with him .
Thank you every one.
Rosella hope it all goes well this weekend
-
Awww he looks gorgeous! Personally I wouldn't read too much into the good condition of his coat - do you remember Lia the service station cat? She was out for 3 months and when she was caught her long hair was still in very good condition and only had a couple of tiny matts under her chin. If you'd picked her up at the time you wouldn't have assumed that she had been out for so long because her fur was in such good condition.
I do hope you are able to catch this gorgeous puss, it's awful to think he might be lost, injured and cold. God luck x x
-
I think you should keep feeding him Pav
-
Just seen this Pav - it could only happen to you
Beautiful cat and such a shame he won't come to you so you can see if he is chipped and get him to his owners. For some reason he feels safe under that car and is ot going to come out.
I suppose you could do a poster saying something on the lines of:
Is this your cat or do you know who this cat belongs to?
I have concerns as it seems a little hurt and hiding under a car for a few days/nights now.
Good luck.

Yes you are right, his coat condition don't mean he is not living rough, his under coat could be mated and i have seen him washing him self after meal hence the reason for his white bits being so clean.
I have this strong feeling that he is either lost or has got a home but not being looked after in proper way , other wise why would he stay out here under a car in rain and snow for food!
-
I think you should keep feeding him Pav
Thank you Gill yes i am going to keep feeding him till i can get him to my vet to be checked for microchip as i noticed he is still limping surely if he had some one to care for him they would see to his leg and keep him in till he is well enough to go out again :(

Thankx Mary.
He goes hiding under the car only when i go out to put food and make this little hiss at me , that is why i think he may be living rough for a while and feel that is the way to protect himself! :-:
I have put posters in every house in our street and going to put more on trees this weekend.
I wish i had more free time to spend with him and gain his trust to get him to come in as he did the other day but i am working long hours and when he turns up in the morning i dont have long before leaving for work :( Hoping this weekend i might get him to come in.
I am concern about his leg and where he is sleeping in this cold weather.

-
Just a little update on Mr Pip :Luv: He is doing well with his leg and having his meals indoor and not under the car :)
I decided not to trap him and wait till he is friendly enough to be picked up to do the vet visit checking for micrchip but am sure he is sleeping rough :( Every time i open the window or front door he appears he wonder around the place but if i try to close the window or door to keep him in then he panics and runs out.
He is a purr machine and loves to be brushed and even let me wipe his eyes.
Today is been raining all morning and for the first time he has spend the whole morning in having a nap, am going to try and add some pics.
Aww and Felicity is fine having him around she follows him every where ;D
-
he is lovely Pav, mmm if he is a stray I'm guessing he won't be much longer ;)
-
What a great picture and once he feels secure................think he is nearly there ;D .........he will be there to stay ;D
Felicity looks lovely and what a gorgeous pair ;D
-
Such a lovely pic Pav :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Thanks every one, i am hoping he is chiped and his owner can be traced :)
I noticed today above his eyes there is fur missing and there are red dots on skin, could it be flea bites?
I hope is not ring worms :scared:
-
They do look comfortable ;D ;D
I suspect fleas especially as he has been living outside, would go for that first.
Ringworm tends to be little circles with a free patch in the middle, sorta like a ring :innocent:
-
Aaw bless, so glad he is making it a bit easier for you Pav.
Would be lovely to see him re-united with his owners if he has any.
Mary
-
What a very lucky boy :) If one of mine was ever lost or injured I hope that they would happen across a person just like you
-
Pav, pop a Frontline (or similar) flea treatment on his neck, I think the red spots are flea bite related, maybe where he's scratched old bites?
Good for you, I'd wish one of my strays would end up at your house and not on the streets.
Meantime, when you get close enough, pop a proper collar on him with your phone number scrawled on the inside, see who calls?
-
Thank you Gill, i have seen flea dirt on him but wasnt sure if i should use Frontline . What if he is visiting other homes and get treated by other people then its overdose and would do more harm than good?
Thank you Mary  I am sure he had a home once but not sure if he is from around here , i did put up posters but heared nothing :(. I was late one eve and found him trying to push his way in through the cat flap which is closed so he knows how to use a flap .
Thankyou Helen
Do you think it helps if i put him on lost and found here on purrs?
-
Thank you Sheila , i think i will Frontline him and Felicity in the morning.
I did the paper collar a while back , he came back without it and i thought good some one is going to get in touch. Only to find the collar out in our front yard :-:
-
You'd see the wet on his neck if he had been treated for fleas already, Pav. :-:
So the paper colar failed. Worth one more try? Or a proper collar with your name/number sellotaped on there?
If you post him on here and NPR and animalsearchuk you've covered most of the bases, but on here you get the benefit of silly old cat ladies like me trawling the other sites in our "spare" time. :-[ ;D
He's a beauty, hope he sticks around :Luv2:
-
Thanks Sheila, i will print another paper collar from internet on Monday and will try again ;D
He just had his breakfast and while eating i put the Frontline didnt bother him at all ;D
I have this two pics which is very clear of his face and marking do you think i should add them to found post or no picture?
-
awwwww Well done Pav :)
He is affa bonnie :Luv:
-
Pip is lovely :Luv2: and must be a clever lad as well to have found you to help him :)
-
Most rescues do post pictures of their "found" cats, Pav, so I would too if I were in your position, but the decision is entirely yours, of course. I always think that a cat would reconise its owner and react accordingly so you can weed out any non-genuine owners. :shify:
The first thing, though, is to get him to the vet for a microchip check ;) and to have a look at that skin problem. Can you get him in a box do you think? The vet will probably check him for free if you ask on the phone when you call. :sneaky:
From his behaviour, the fact he knows how to play and is happy to be handled and flea treated suggests he's definitely a lost pet and not feral. I almost hope you don't find his owner, Pav, cos I know how happy he could be with you and Miss Fliss. :)
-
so he knows how to use a flap .
[/color]
 Boy did he choose the right flap ;)
That latest pic of him is beautiful Pav :Luv2:
Mary
-
He is gorgeous but reckon he has been lost for a long time and living on his wits till he found you ;D ;D
-
I managed to get this guy to the vet and am delighted to say that he was chiped and now reunited with his family ;D
He is called Bertie and much loved by his dad who called me from Poland being on bussiness and arranged for his wife to pick him up this afternoon :)
I am over the moon :wow:
Thank you every one for your support and advice. :hug:x
:thanks:
-
So pleased for Bertie and well done to you Pav. I bet they were so excited. Do they live far from you?
Mary x

So pleased for Bettie and well done to you Pav. I bet they were so excited. Do they live far from you?
Mary x
Thank you Mary
Bertie's dad was, he kept thanking me for taking him to the vets and have him checked!
His wife was a very nice lady but didnt know much and made it clear that Bertie was her husband's cat and he should take more responsibility for Bertie :-: She had a young child with her which was really sweet as she kept calling Bertie but he wasnt interested :naughty:
No not far away from me but she said they are both away lots and the cat sitter said Bertie stoped coming home, she couldnt believe that he is out there at all hours in rain and snow sleeping under the cars .
I told her i lost my cat Mister to RTA and am concerned about him crossing the road and how he sits in middle of the road and asked if they had a cat flap and if they could atleast keep him in at nights. She said she will speak to her husband.
Now i have to treat my Flat and Felicity for fleas as Bertie was covered in fleas
-
Am delighted that you found Bertie's "owners" Pav :wow: :wow: :wow: but what is it that makes me think you haven't seen the last of this boy? :shify:
Felicity will be a bit of a lure to that handsome ginger boy methinks :naughty: as indeed will be your catfud and treats :innocent:
I very much hope that they do the decent thing and install a catflap if they are not prepared to keep him in :shy:
-
I meant to ask Pav. How long had Bertie been "missing"? :(
-
So pleased that you found Berties owners but have to say if he is away loads it doesnt sound that she cares that much, so agree with Rosella
-
It's a shame the husband isn't at home more - he might have a word with his wife about caring for Bertie better when he's away.
You're an angel Pav
Mary
-
I meant to ask Pav. How long had Bertie been "missing"? :(
Rosella, tbh i was so excited finding his owners that i forgot to ask . I also forgot to mention his bad leg back in Feb :-[ I had the vet clip his trousers as he had a bad tummy in last few days and i tried to clean him but he wouldnt stand still. The vet said his skin was very sore urinating and not cleaning him self :(
I managed to wipe him most days using baby wipes but he would get very excited with his claws ;)
Aww yes she said they have a magnetic flap thats when i asked her if they atleast keep him in at nights and just lock the flap, she said the husband have another cat which has a very bad eczema and epilepsy :(
Gill, i have a feeling the moment they let him out he will turn up here, but atleast i know he is not a stray and i wont be feeding him any more.
Mary the wife seemed very nice but i dont think she is a cat person
 :thanks: again for all the support.
-
You wont be feeding him.........................hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
She obviously does not bother to take him or the other cat to the vets, you are very kind Pav
-
What an unexpected twist! :wow: So pleased that Bertie's owners have been found, he's so lucky that he stumbled across you to look after him while he was lost :)
-
Bertie's hoomans were here this morning asking if i have seen him :shify:
They said the cat flap is broken so the wife blocked it with 3 bottle of water but Bertie managed to get out
I said i will text them if he turns up but he hasn't and now i am worried.
-
3 bottles, how stoopid are they!
I do hope he turns up Pav cos this is very destressing
-
Any news?
-
No sign , he hasnt been around :(
-
Maybe Bertie's gone home but they've not let you know. Hope so cos you need to look after that gorgeous Felicity.
Mary
-
Can you text them for an update Pav? I'm sure the man is wondering if you've seen Bertie but doesn't want to bother you either. :-:
Shame they didn't offer to help with your flea outbreak - at least buy you a can of Indorex or something. :-:
-
I told them if Bertie turnup here i would text them and expected them to do the same :-: They still have my cat carrier which they said they would drop on Sunday!
I paid for the consultation and having his trousers cliped and full checkup, it was my choice to do so as his fur was a mess :( I just hope he is ok . Not sure now if i did the right thing ? What if he stoped going home because he wasnt happy and the first chance he got he broke out and now he doesnt trust me to come back cos he think i would return him :-[
I know the vet visit didnt upset him as he stayed around till his mum turned up to pick him and since then no sign. Its just not like him
Yes Sheila i know i should text them but just cant deal if its bad news and some thing has happened to him, my friend Sally lost her long battle with illness this morning and i just feel a bit down. :'(
:thanks: :thanks: Every one for caring :hug:x
-
So sorry about your friend Pav
So hard about Bertie and think you made the right decision but really hopes he remembers where you live and that you cared fior him
Just text them and ask for your carrier back as you need it.
-
Pav, so sorry about Sally
Mary
-
Thank you Gill, i will text them
Thank you Mary

With a very Happy ending ;D A month ago i heared Berties mum outside my flat calling him so i went out and told her i havent seen him for a while! she said he has been home as she and her husband are going through a divorce and husband asked her to keep him in till he gets the key for his new place but he managed to break out again  I told her i would call if he turns up . Few days later i came home and saw Bertie waiting outside my flat i called her but she wasnt there and didnt get back to me till a week later she said she was away but cat sitter said he comes home and eats and leave  I asked why the sitter hasnt kept him in ? I could see he is sleeping rough from his fur and not being brushed so not sure about sitter story.
Any how this morning i heared a guy shouting Bertie's name in the street and realized had to be his dad but it was too early and i just didnt get up then he called me saying he has his new place and trying to find him i said Bertie turns up eary morning every day when i let Felicity out but its around 4 am and its too early to call but he said he doesnt mind if it means to have his cat back :)
Well Bertie turned up an hour ago and i called his dad and now they are re united he was so Happy to see Bertie he kept huging me and had tears in his eyes i thought it was so lovely to see , most people i know are cat ladies not guys. He said he had Bertie for 6 years since he was 8 weeks (rescued) and its only last couple of months that he is behaving like this so i mentioned his injured leg in Feb and he said thats when his daughter started walking and now i wonder if thats why Bertie didnt want to go home.
He just texted me to say Thank you again and he missed him so much and he will make sure he's cared for properly again :Luv:
I just wanted to share this it kinda made my night :)
Bye Bertie have a wonderful life
-
Oh this is the best possible news, he has a slave who adores him and was missing him. ;D
God bless you Pav for looking out for this little guy, otherwise he may never have found his Dad again. :(
This is what cat rescue is all about. Feel good and celebrate my friend, you did good ;D :cheer:
-
Wonderful news Pav ;D ;D
-
Thanks Sheila  I am sitting here with a big grin on my face ;D His dad text again saying how wonderful is to have him home :) He is loved so much and i am sooo happy he is home but Felicity is going to miss him very much she used to follow him and stay close to him i took the last pic tonight while i was playing with him waiting for his dad to pick him up :Luv: I think i need to find a new friend for Felicity :innocent:
-
Pav so pleased - you deserve to have a grin on your face.
Fantastic for Bertie and his dad
Mary
-
Thank you Mary
-
What a lovely story with a happy ending, so often we hear of 'strays' with such sad stories so its nice to hear he has someone who adores him. And thank you so much for helping him pav, who knows what could have happened
