Title: Cleaning limescale from cat fountain ?
Post by: sheilarose on October 31, 2012, 15:16:21 PM
Any ideas?
We're in a really hard water area and my petmate drinking fountain is caked with scale. I use scaleaway on my kettle, but the smell and taste is pretty horrible, so I don't imagine the cats will use the fountain again afterwards?

white wine vinegar is good, obviously slower than scaleaway!

How do you do it with vinegar, though? All the surfaces are vertical.

Sheila put some vinegar or lemon juice on cottonball and place it on the surface  and wrap it with cleang film. Couple of hours and it should do the job. You need lots of cotton ball though :)

Or just pour the vinegar (or diluted lemon juice) into the fountain and leave on for a few hours.  That's what we do with ours (and the coffee machine)
