Lupin was not well over the weekend being sick and not eating.
Took him to the vets yesterday just before Purrs went down and Gareth thought he had eaten something he shouldnt have and may need immediate surgery.
He was put on a drip and blood tests showed he was a bit dehydrated and he had xrays cos he was in a lot of pain innhis tummy.
They didnt show any foreign body but a build up of gas and diarhrea and apparently he has expelled a lot of stinky gas.
He is stable but has a sore back and probably also his tummy and he hates vets touching him there, Gareth and I were nearly killed by Ducha yesterday!
Xrays show he has one kidney smaller than the other but what is causing his problem is not solved.
They want to keep him in tonight and say although he is stable he is not right and think they are also waiting for Gareth to come back tomorrow cos he doesnt work on Tues.
I am just off to visit shortly and take his normal food in cos he isnt eating. He is on anti sick meds and also abs and wont touch the GI food

oh no Gill
-
Poor Lupin and poor you Gill - hope he recovers fast.
Mary
-
Do hope he is ok, lots of vibes on their way   for Lupin and his mum
-
Gill, am sorry to hear about Lupin's enforced stay at the vet, and am sending every best wish and lots of love for you both.
It sounds as if it may be something bacterial perhaps, if its not related to his smaller kidney? Either way, we want this sorted and your lovely boy home again to be plaguey with Marvellous Misman and Miss Sasa (Ma'am)
-
Have just come back from visiting and he is not a happy bunny.
They had moved him to the kenneks where Ducha stayed cos of all the dogs needing ops but they say they will move him back asap because he has gone downhill since veing moved. Apparently he was rolling around and playing and getting loots of attention and now he is lying degectedly in a corner.
He still hasnt eaten and wouldnt eat the food I took.
His back is very sore cos I stroked it very gentley and he put his teeth on my finger and moved further back into his corner.
They dont know what has caused all this and are waiting for Gareth to come back tomorrow.
Ellie the vet said that they will put him on a pain killer to see if it helps his back.
She thinks he maybe able to come home tomorrow and thinks they will be able to sort out the insurance.
So am sending lots of love to Lupin on his second birthday and hope that tomorrow they will have decided what is wrong with him.
The only good think is that he is not deteriating and he hasnt been sick since he was there, he looks very tired.
-
Not the news I was hoping to hear Gill :( Sending lots of get well vibes for Lupin and   for you.
-
all very strange Gill, he hasn't taken a tumble or something and hurt himself, I suppose that doesn't really account for the sickness though, ignore me I'm thinking out loud!
-
Hoping he is well soon and home with you Gill and that they get to the bottom of his problem
-
I dont know if he has Dawn and that maybe there are two seperate issues.
I do know that when I was ready to take him to the vets yesterday, he couldnt jump onto the kitchen table. he tried and couldnt make it
-
Sorry to hear about Lupin being so poorly, the absolutelast thing you need right now
Lupin is otherwise strong and healthy so have everything crossed he recovers quickly, it sounds similar to what happened to Riley a year or so ago - no explanation for it whatsoever.
-
Hi Gill,

So sorry to hear Lupin is unwell and hope the vets find out what the problem is and he is back with you soon
-
Thank you and will be ringing the vets later to see how he is, I so hope he has started eating again.
-
Gill, Beau went through something similar when he was bitten on his back - off his food, high temperature, vomiting, no bounce in his legs... our vet at the time didn't spot the damage and assumed he had fallen badly, but I mentioned there had been a wet patch on his fur which might suggest he had been fighting.
Turns out he had a massive abscess on his back that was pressing into the spine and knocking his nerve out of kilter. Once discovered the abscess needed to be squeezed which was excruciating for him ( he bit me through to the bone, and the hot green gunk hit the vet in the eye) but the moment it was done he started to improve.
I hope there's as simple a solution to Lupin's issues, def get the vet to check his spine for any hot spots, as it does sound exactly the same symptoms, Beau was even the same age, just two. :(
-
Poor Beau
Lupin has not been bitten and nobody to bite him. in a way I wish it was that easy.
I am sure that he has fallen off something very recently but just cant remember, nothing has shown on the xrays. Seem to recall he fell on his side................wish I could remember.
He really hates vets examining him but while he was asleep Gareth had a good exam.
As for taking his temperature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is a total no no while he is not sedated but wonder if that is due to his problems.
-
Poor Lupin. Hope the vet gets to the bottom of whats troubling him.

Hey Gill
I am very sorry to hear Lupin is poorly. I'm sure Gareth will discover what's going on and Sir Lupin da luvvabul will be back in his snazzy coat looking for an outside trip. Big hugs for you, Misa and Sasa.xxxxx

-
Gill, topping up the hugs and the positive vibes for you and young Master Lupin.
   At times like this (and others too) I wish they could take and let us know what they're feeling so we were better placed to help.
-
C'mon Lupin - get yourself well and back home where you belong
-
Gill, this is so awful. Definitely the last thing you need right now. :care: Come on, Lupin - get better and get home!
-
Hoping for some better news about Lupin today
-
Lupin is home ;D ;D ;D
I had a really bad night cos when I phoned last night some really grumpy guy just said he is still not eating and that kept me awake cos 5 days since he has eaten.
Gareth rang me this morning to say Lupin is nibbling at food but much better today and back to his norty self. Over night he had pulled off the full leg bandage keeping his drip in............it had gradually got bigger and bigger.
He has had 3 days abs which has to do for fear of losing an arm but Gareth thinks thats OK............the 3 days, not losing an arm!
He still hasnt eaten unless you count a moth and has had two attacks of the very norties, one involving a fly!
As he is obviously feeling better I hope he starts eating very quickly.
Gareth said the pain is gone and he still wont allow his temp to be taken and the veiw is that he has had a stomach bug, albeit he was so ill on Monday it looked very serious.
The small kidney has been put on his nptes so now have to find an insurance form and if he will eat I will be sooooooooo happy.
Thank you for all your support
-
Oh Gill, that's such a relief.  And I take the nortiness as a very good sign :evillaugh: although I don't want to see you losing an arm, nosireeee - so Lupin? No nortiness when it comes to takin yer Medsunn, ok? ;)
-
;D ;D ;D
-
Its OK Sue he has no medicine and dont think even Gareth would try to feed the pirahna :evillaugh: :evillaugh:
He has given up trying to take his temperature cos he gets attacked.
-
Oh Lupin - tsk! :-:
:evillaugh:
-
Brilliant news. You must be so relieved!
-
Good news Gill :) :) I bet you are relieved
-
Its great to havve him home but wish he had eaten before going to sleep........sigh
Eating is the most important thing for him to do.
-
Gill, I'm so happy Lupin is back and feeling better. :) Hope he eats something again tonight so you can start to relax.
Where oh where does he get this attitude from?
-
Glad he is more or less back to his normal naughty self!
-
So sorry that you are having such a crappy time at the moment Hun  but so glad that Lupin is home with you where he belongs - keeping everything crossed that he starts to eat soon xxx

:shify: So, what we need to know is how norty is he today (on a scale of 1 - 10) and - has he ett der fud yet? Hoping he's a lot more back to normal this morning, and that you've managed to grab some rest.
-
Sorry hun I've only just seen this :(
So pleased Lupin is back home again, and hope he starts eating a little bit again soon.
If he did have a nasty bug, he's maybe scared to eat in case it makes him sick again? I know when I had food poisening once the very last thing I felt like doing was eating anything at all
-
Moths, Gill. :-:
Did you mention he's been chasing moths? I wonder, are they toxic? Could it be he ate one that has made him so ill :scared:
-
How's Lupin this morning? Has he eaten?
-
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr keeping losing my messages
Lupin has had loads of sleep but still isnt really eating.
He has had a lick of some pate mixed with water to a think gravy and then been out in the garden. He didnt want to stay out long but its cold and everywhere is very wet.
I am hoping that he will eat some more once this little lot has gone down properly.
He is shouting for me so have to go
-
Hopefully he is shouting for some tea!
-
No he wasnt lol but could do with some help with ideas of what to feed him.
He cant eat fish at all and has refused chicken, wont eat his normal little morsals of sheba or the tesco chicken in jelly that he used to eat. Has also refused the RC GI food which he used to eat last year when his tummy was bad and am at wits end with him.
He also cant eat whiskers or felix...........I have forgotten all the things I tried with him last year that just went straight thro...........sigh
-
Poor Lupin - he's probably got used to no food so his tummy's not telling him to eat. I have no suggestions for what to feed him I'm afraid but would be tempted to stick with the RC food in the hope that he'll decide to eat it eventually. Does he like things such as cheese and yogurt? I wonder if very small amounts of something like that might tempt him and kick start the appetite?
-
He had a mini lick of yogart this afternoon and about an hour and half ago had the biggest amount of food since friday last and even ate from a dish.
However he is curled up almost in a ball so am a bit worried whether his tummy is hurting, he has been stretched out up until now.
Thanks Susanne
-
It pains me to ask this, but do you have a little metacam in the house, Gill?
If he's still in pain, and not eating because of it, a little painkiller might help him over his reluctance and at least give you both some leaway.
-
Good idea Sheila and what about some A/D Gill as very little needed to get right nutrients into him. Did Gareth suggest anything?
-
Poor little thing,i'm sending lots of very good vibes+gentle stroke.x
-
Aww I hope he's ok real soon. Amber reacts to metacam but is very happy with fish water if I cook coley and give her the water only.

Its horrible when they dont eat
love

-
Thanks for the ideas all.
I only have old metacam but dont want to put his little kidney at risk so early on. I dont think he is in pain any more cos he has been jumping up and down and climbing and hasher go back a biy but he was upset by then been outside twice.
I was thinking about the AD and must get a tin in if the vets have any.
The really good news is that Lupin has eaten and would have ate a bit more chicken if Sasa hadnt been moving in on him, I made her move back but it broke his stride.
He has eaten some of his normal sheba little morsals and about half a tin of gourmet pate mixed with water so I am really pleased.
He is stretched out on the cat tree again which I think is good but if he isnt sick overnight and his tummy doesnt get upset we are getting there.
Thank you ;D
The next challenge is will it stay in him or make him sick or upset his tummy...........sigh
-
Gill, am hoping that he's making steady progress, and very pleased he was able to get some food down last night.
-
Good news that he's eating something ;D
-
glad he has eaten something, what a worry
-
Hoping he can keep this up and his food down. ;)
-
He has eaten a bit just now and may have eaten some during the night but could be one of the other piggies!
There is no sign of him being sick but he hasnt used the tray yet so not sure about the other end.
I am keeping fingers crossed he is OK, he wants to go out but its raining hard,
He is staring at me like its my fault he cant go out..........sigh
-
It does sound like he is on the mend. Fingers crossed.
-
Hope so cos have just booked the car in for repair next wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
