Title: He's here!!!!!
Post by: new cat mummy on March 29, 2012, 17:13:35 PM
It has been long, long afternoon waiting for hubby to come home with my new baby, I was so excited I burnt the poor kids lunch twice

Anyway, my little nameless man (at least I think he's a boy, do males have nipples too?!) is here and has thoroughly made himself at home!!!

I was kinda expecting this little, timid, folorn thing but hubby said he mewed all the way 1.5 hours home lol He is a bold, cheeky little monkey, quick nibble of food, rearranged his bed, no time for sleep, off to explore  As soon as hubby pulled into the drive I'd open the door and could hear him meeewing! I opened the car door and there he was,up on his back legs shouting his head off at me, tail up and purring-I never knew someone so small could do so much at once!

I have for now made him a pen from my spare rabbit cage (it is large, but the bars are narrow so he can't get stuck) in the bedroom so hopefully he will rest a while.....

I really need a new name for him, bless him. He has one blue eye and the other looks to be turning green I think...

Anyway, hopefully my pics have worked  :Luv2:

Have you checked his hearing? White cats with odd eyes are often deaf (I think its that way round) or is it one ear may be deaf? sorry must check now!

White Cats, Blue Eyes, and Deafness

A genetics coupling causes many (but not all) white cats with blue eyes to be deaf. White cats with "odd eyes," i.e. one blue eye and one green, hazel, or golden eye, are sometimes deaf in the ear closest to the blue eye. These anomalies occur only with the dominant white gene, and even some cats with that dominant gene are exceptions, if they are born with even small patches of color other than white. According to this exceptional article by Sarah Hartwell,
"5% of the general cat population is white cats (i.e. pure white). 15-40% of these pure white cats have one or two blue-eyes."
"Of those white cats with one or two blue eyes, 60-80% are deaf; 20-40% have normal hearing; 30-40% had one blue eye and were deaf while 60-70% had one blue eye and normal hearing."

:omg: what a little cutie! :blow kiss: Sounds like he'll certainly keep you entertained and on your toes  ;D

Boys do indeed have nipples so the only way to tell if it's a boy or a girl is to look at the rear end  ;) My boy cat was a 'girl' for the first few days of his life with me  :naughty:

Well, he certainly has me and my daughter smitten already!

I have wondered whether his hearing would be affected, it is definitely something I will be discussing with the vet. So far he seems OK though, he always catches me out when I've tried to sneak into the bedroom to make sure he's okay!!

Oh my he is just adorable  :Luv2: :Luv2:

My neighbour has a white cat with odd eyes, she's deaf on the blue side but is perfectly happy and safe to be inside/outside although she's kept in at night when the foxes are about (no camouflage, see?).

Your vet check in the morning should give you an idea if he's a he or a she, but basically you'd be guessing even if you did check out the many "how do I sex my kitten" videos on youtube (and there are many  :shify: ) so don't worry about it.

Glad he's home and appears to be fully in charge already.

Oh my - no wonder you're smitten!    He's an absolute little stunner.  Sounds like he's making himself right at home straight away.  I can remember how exciting it was to bring home Mac, and this is just the start of an amazing roller coaster of joy and panic for you  (Can't see him - where is he?  Oh - there he is!)  ;D

Am hopeless at naming cats - I always think it's one of the hardest things to get right because of Old Possum's Book of Cats  :evillaugh:  but how about Echo, or Spook?  If he'd been a girl you could have called her Blanche, but not really appropriate for a little feller.

He/she is gorgeous!! sounds like he/she is going to be a little tinker and they're so much fun when they're like that  :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

I thought it was Dot for male, line for girl??

I once took my hamster (i loved that hamster) to the vet due to a sudden tumour.....turns out it was one of his "peas" that had fallen out  :-[ :-[
The vet actually tilted his head back and roared with laughter  :-[ he didnt charge me either, purely on the basis that i had made his week......

So my theory on sexing an animal should not be taken as law....

Awwwww how cute !!!!!  ;D He's a very hansom boy. Rusalka is our smallest cat. When I went to see her I thought she was a little sensitive scrap but no that girl takes no prisoners. Shes full of life and character.

I never knew about white cats being prone to deafness very interesting.

Heres to a happy life with this little fellow!  :Luv2:

  sorry, that did make me laugh!

Well, he is definitely a boy lol vet was really pleased with him and didnt seem to think He had any hearing problems :)

Ater shortlisting Echo, spirit, sprite and puc we ended up calling him...

...Mr Wilson lol

he is shockingly loud and really loves the sound of his own voice  :innocent: his first night home I must have got about an hours sleep but thankfully he slept right through til 6 am last night. He is currently asleep in his favorite spot, right up on my chest under my chin  :Luv2:
Was quite funny this morning, after a couple of tractors went past and woke him up he decided he'd had enough and got up and burried himself under my pillow with a look of annoyance on his face lol

Here's a couple more pics...

:welcome: Mr Wilson.  Love that grumpy little face.

Your heartbeat reminds him of his Mother, hence his presence under your chin. Some rescues like to leave a wind-up clock in their bed with very tiny orphans/abandons.

I can see that's not  going to be necessary with Mr Wilson. No no, he has his new mummy now  ;D

Ah Mr Wilson - it suits him!

Mosi spent his first night here in the same position.  As well as your heartbeat, I think they also like that they can feel your breath.  it is still Mosi's favourite place to snuggle at bedtime although he's somewhat bigger now and doesn't exactly fit under the chin!
