Title: Big bully stray cat advice!!!
Post by: wharfevalley catsprotection on March 01, 2012, 13:43:31 PM
I have two female cats (neutered of course!!!) Layla and Luna and now it's starter to become warmer, they're a bit more interested in playing out in the garden. The only problem we have is with the local bully, full tom cat that wanders in and out occasionally!

He's a completely typical tom, full face, massive size, boy bits the size of golf balls! Poor thing looks well enough but it's white bit of fur are never white and so I don't think he's owned. I do shoo him away when he's terrorised the girls, but i'd really rather gain his trust and get his bits chopped off!

I would normally try and get him to the vets to be scanned etc, but the problem is that he just will not come anywhere near me. I don't think he's feral, jsut probably been used to being booted about. Where do I start in terms of trust?

I guessed that it was setting up a feeding regime in order to be able to gain trust and then perhaps use a trap, but the issue in the meantime is where do I feed him? Do I try and do it at the bottom of the garden and just face the fact that up until he's neutered he's going to bully mine?

Obviously my girls come first, but equally I do feel so sorry for this male and i'd feel a bit better if I could at least make his life a bit better - you never know, we do have room for another so if he calmed down i'd be happy to take him on...

Any tips on feeding him whilst keeping the peace would be most appreciated!

Oh and if anyone has a spare trap in the Durham area, that would be great too lol!

This is way beyound me I am afraid but wonder if you could set up a feeding regime around 1700 while its still light and after your girls are in?

Someone else may have a better idea :innocent:

Makes sense to bring the girls in for their tea and then pop out and have a set time to try and gain his trust via Whiskas/Felix etc! Maybe sitting on the ground nearby while he eats? Do you have a local CP to ask about a trap?

Thanks guys!

I've emailed my local CP but to be honest they're very, very small but here's hoping! I will try and put the food down when they girls have come in for the evening do that he can be tempted here...!

we're a bit far away (west yorkshire) but if you have no luck anywhere else then you can borrow a trap from us.
