Just saw this:
http://www.nationalpetregister.org/fp/37261.htm
can anyone help? :(
-
Aww poor puss, hopefully the owners will be traced as it says she is microchipped.
-
Could you email the people and suggest they take the cat to either a CP places or another no kill shelter? I think most people go to the RSPCA as it's the first place they think of.
-
Sorry, I've just realised she's actually with the RSPCA.
-
I'm sure there has been a similar situation in the past. I don't think the RSPCA would release her to another organisation, only to a home :(
Really hope her owner can be found :wish:
-
My brother lives in Bristol, I don't think he's in that area but I've emailed him to check if he knows anyone who's lost her. Long shot, I know.
Just wondering though, if she's microchipped, why can't the owner be traced?
-

There was Justin (Just in Time fame) - a couple of years ago now who was on a seven day pts order but was through pressure from Catchat and Purrs members and rescues; RSPCA allowed to be adopted by the original finder who was horrified when she discovered what was going to happen to him. And there have been others. :(
Wonder if it would be worth cross posting on Cat Chat and Animal Lifeline.
Hopefully the Shelter will release the cat if another rescue or home can be found. Did Purrs not help place 2 FIV cats for the shelter concerned a while ago?
Sorry just found thread on the 2 FIV cats - that was Bath not bristol :innocent:
-
I've just phoned the RSPCA. Sadly, as anticipated, they will neither give her to another rescue nor rehome her. According to the lady I spoke with the vet has said she is very sick (heart problems, kidney failure, hyperthyroid) and 'wouldn't last a month'. If she is not claimed they will PTS. I have offered to take her and I've told them about Truman that came to me from Brent Knoll two years ago who was found in similar circumstances and that I've been home checked by RSPCA in Leicester. I've left my name and number but don't expect to hear from them.
-
RSPCA are just sick............I was thinking about Truman and you and seem to recall loads of hijinks had to be gone through to get him safe.
If someone wants to take on an old and sickish cat, what reason have they to say no! I know truman lived loads longer than their estimate but they are willing to PTS a lovely friendly cat who could have a home, it just makes no sense.
-
You really are an angel Moira  Sadly I don't think it will be enough for this little one, absolute madness when a kind loving home (homechecked by their own organisation) is being offered :( Surely if she was that ill they wouldn't wait for an owner to come forwards but would have to PTS on health grounds straight away?
-
That's an amazing offer Moira. I see that the lady you spoke to relayed what the vet had said. Is it possible for either you or even better, your vet to speak to their vet on your behalf to go through your offer of a home and experience with a similar situation? Surely he/she can vouch for you. And if it's more complicated than the lady you spoke to is saying, at least your vet would be able to either agree/disagree on a professional level too.
It's a dreadful situation, even more so when this girl is being offered a chance :(
-
It's a difficult one because, of course, we are not in a position to know how sick Freda is and none of us would suggest she be rehomed if she is suffering and cannot be helped. I take the point, though, that if she were that sick wouldn't they have been justified in pts on health grounds? It seems the only reason they have had to wait at all is because she was chipped. I have e-mailed the rescue asking that their vet contact me and reiterating my offer to take her and the situation with Truman. You're right, with Truman I did speak with the vet directly and it was on her say so that Truman lived. If I don't get a response to my e-mail I'll try phoning the vet tomorrow (if they will give me the vets name/contact details).
-
Moira, that's so nice of you to go to the trouble to try to help.
-
You are just a fantastic person Moira and hope that you get to speak with the vet and the little girl can be saved.
-
Will keep everything crossed for this little one. :scared:
Moira, also glad to hear that Truman is still going strong. I really fell in love with him. Are there any recent pics??
-
I think your offer and efforts are truly amazing Moira. Good luck tomorrow. x
-
Have just seen this. Don't know where you are Moira. I live in Bristol if by any chance they will let her go to you Moira, if you need any help with a transport run I will see if we can help. {Although won't be able this weekend}. Hope it all works out for you and Freda x
-
Thanks, Gazzar, that's very kind of you.
sorry Skiddaw, Truman passed away some time ago. However, I had him for 15 months and he was a sweet, happy boy right to the end. I have no regrets taking on an old sick cat, it was very rewarding. I just wanted for Truman to have one season enjoying snoozing in the sun and, in fact, he had two. I would love to give Freda the same but, of course, she isn't Truman and we don't know just how well/sick she is.
-
that is so nice of you to offer to help and take her. I had a cat years ago who had a heart attack aged 7 and he lived till 20 on medications. Maybe if your vet could speak to them they may agree to let you take her and end her days with love and care? If they still refuse, maybe you could mention "if" the story got into the newspapers, it wouldnt be very good press for them :evillaugh: Fingers crossed we can get a happy ending for her :'(
-
Bad stories about RSPCA never get in the papers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
You really are an angel Moira
Totally agree.
Could someone claim to be her owner but the "paperwork has been lost?" Any chance it would work?
-
Moira, if there are vet fees involved, as there were with Truman, I shall be happy to contribute
-
that is so kind of you, Trigger. I have not had any response to my e-mail so will try to phone the vet this afternoon and speak with him direct. Sadly, don't hold out much hope.

I dont think so JS cos they are with holding the details of her microchip.
-
This is really upsetting me :( So they wont even rehome her if her owners dont come forward?
-
The information I received from their receptionist (nurse?) yesterday was that Freda was very old and had numerous age related problems (heart, kidney, hyperthyrod) and 'would only last a month' and thus was not rehomable. I have been trying this afternoon to get through to the clinic to speak with the vet direct but haven't had any luck so far. None of us would advocate keeping a suffering animal alife but I would like to hear it from the vet that she would, with or without medication, have no quality of life left. That for me is the issue, quality of life, the time left is not relevant. I'll keep trying.
-
Moira - you are an angel and I thank you for doing what you do.
I think you said that you had to speak with the Head Vet to get Trueman (bless his heart) released and I know with Justin it was the same at the RSPCA hospital cos the vet nurses were fobbing everyone off.
So sending all good vibes that you get to speak with the vet
-
I do so hope that this story has the right ending for the poor pussy whatever it turns out to be THank you for your help in her time of need
-
Thanks for trying Moira. Did you ever manage to get through?
Also sorry to hear about Trueman. i must have missed that. He was a dear cat and reminded me so much of our Uncle M in his final days.
-
I tried contacting both phone numbers after I posted here on friday and they both went to answerphone. Moira I do hope you manage to get a positive response from them, I can take her in short term if we have somewhere for her to go x
-
I had no luck yesterday either. Like you, Liz, I just got answerphone but not even able to leave message. I will try again tomorrow but, to be honest, I don't hold out much hope.
-
Very sad news.
I eventually managed to get through to the clinic this morning but was told Freda was PTS on Saturday. It was the same nurse I spoke with last week. She said '(due to her health issues) it would not have been appropriate to keep her going'. We'll never know for sure if she was, indeed, at the point where euthanasia was the only option.
So sorry, little one. Play hard at the bridge.
-
ahhh that is so sad, poor little Freda. Thanks for trying anyway. I am not impressed with the RSPCA at all >:(
-
Thats so sad Moira and thank you for trying so hard
RIP Freda, play hard on the Bridge.

RIP Freda, safe and sound at the Bridge by now xx
-

-
That poor girl :(
Thanks for trying Moira
-
RIP little Freda :( x
-
So sorry to hear about little Freda, What a shame that the RSPCA don't give loving people like yourself the chance to see for yourself whether their was anything that could have been done to help her , if there wasn't then you could have had peace of mind and let her go knowing that this was best for her instead of them taking the easy option of putting an animal to sleep.
You are a wonderful lady God bless you for caring so much.
RIP little lady safe at the bridge now.
  for you xxxx
Denise
