I have spread the news on twitter, it will spread more widely
-
Sadly it is now all over Facebook and every pet forum that wormers have been recalled when in fact they haven't! I will ring Beaphar tomorrow to get clarification.

I just sent the pets at home link to twitter on product recall

I've edited the title to reflect which product is involved, the Pets at Home link confirms it's the Spot On that is affected.

Do not panic when you hear about “Recall drug items” on pet forums etc. They are often wrong either in part or in full. First check with your Vet or the Government Department “DEFRA”
The problem was not worming tablets it was Spot on treatments containing “Permethrin” from Various companies. !! There were No Recalls !! Naming one company without absolute proof can cause them serious problems. Please click on or cut and past the following for information

To add to my last post
The Pets At Home recall-notice does not say “the Cat Flea treatment contains the Dog spot on..”
It just states that... an error that has occurred in the production of one batch of Beaphar Cat Spot on

:welcome: to Purrs John
Thank you for the link to vmd/defra - rather than detailing any specific concerns around a particular product that link simply advises that products containing permethrin intended for dogs cannot safely be used on cats.
The Beaphar product recall that madkittyrescue linked to was indeed a recall of the Beaphar cat spot on, albeit from around 9 months ago and limited to a particular batch. The Cats Protection link has more information about the issue, it appears to be a direct notice from Beaphar and suggests that product labelled as cat spot on did in fact contain dog spot on.
http://www.cats.org.uk/cambridge/news/beaphar-recall
In addition to the above the following link states the information contained within it was taken directly from the Beaphar website confirming that the affected batch of cat spot on did indeed contain dog spot on.

Hello Tiggy's Mum,
Your points fully noted. I do tend to have a habit of not believing some “statements” and like to search for truth. No info on Beaphar site under News. But it would have been removed by now.
I will try searching the Newspaper archives when I have a break from my Family History research.
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi John
I completely agree with you that much of what is writtten on the internet must be taken with a pinch of salt and is not always entirely accurate, in fact I would go so far as to say that some of it is complete nonsense so it's always best to do your own research wherever possible! The recall was from over 9 months ago now so no info left on the manufacturers website but even if someone has one of the faulty batch sat in a drawer somewhere and comes across the warning then at least one cat will have been saved from harm :)

Hello Tiggy's Mum.
Many of us are guilty of old medicines tucked away, both for human & animal.
The reason that I registered on this site was that I saw a message posted Jan 26th 2012 on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NorfolkFreegleCafe/message/29771 and at first thought it an up-to-date Urgent recall message and had to investigate.
Although I am owned by two Dalmatian dogs (no cats now) I believe we owe All animals and our environment our protection and support.
At 70+ I hope to outlive the dogs, now 12yr &10yr as no family that would be able to take care of them. ( spread worldwide) So I am registered with “RSPCA Home for Life”
Wishing good health to you and your pets.
Bye. John.

although paul gave me duff info over the phone at the time and I corrected it.... the actual mishap is correct.
It was clearly noted as being the actual problem with the batch on an urgent notice at our suppliers.
