Title: A happy update
Post by: June - G on January 23, 2012, 11:24:28 AM
It's a long time since I was last here (July 2008) and then my visits were brief. I'd had to say goodbye to my beloved Maggie, an 18-year-old Siamese cross, and was looking for a new companion. The rep. of my local animal charity had negative views on 'indoor' cats, (she made me feel one step up from a vivisectionist!) which was why I was doing my own search. Luckily I found this lovely site and, eventually, Babe. Her then owner referred to her, affectionately, as Fattipuss! Her real name was Mystery but as she responded to neither, I began calling her Babe and has this stuck as her 'official name. She was - and still is- a tad plump but I think that's more due to her sedentary lifestyle than diet. She is the laziest creature!

The oddest thing was that it took me some time to bond with her. She had no problems and settled in straight away, but it took me a couple of months to feel that she was a permanent part of my life rather than a visitor. Perhaps this was because she was 2 years old and all my previous cats had been kittens. She's just a mog, like thousands of other mogs, but I wouldn't change her for the world. I just wanted to say thanks to Purrs, from me, and Babe, and all the other cats and owners who have a happy ending.

What a beautiful girl  :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

Glad you bonded in time.  TBH, I find it usually takes me some months before I bond.  It isn't an automatic thing at all.  Like getting to know anyone I think.  It takes a while.  Unusually, it took years and the death of another cat for me to bond with our Gandolf (RIP).  He was OH's pal and I never got a look in and didn't really care but then Dingle died and I found so much comfort in my big rough old bruiser of a lad.

Don't think OH will ever forgive me stealing Gandi's affection  :innocent:

Babe has very beautiful markings  :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

ooo she's gorgeous  ;D and the name suits too!!  ;D

It also took me longer than i thought when I got 2yr old Peanut. It was quite soon after losing my main boy Tazi and my younger cat Nuggie was feeling the loss - and tbh i thought a new cat would ease my pain too - instead I began bursting out crying again at inpromtu moments, the day we picked Peanut, the day i adopted him and whenever he displayed his "Tazi Like" characteristics *sigh* but the little tinker worked his magic.....they soon squeeze themselves into place in your heart thats for sure  :)
I too am glad i adopted an older cat  :)  :)
