Title: Possible silly question time
Post by: tab on January 08, 2012, 16:45:25 PM
Although Amber loves cuddles she has never been a belly stroking cat so her tum is usually hidden away in fluff. Twice yesterday she sat on my knee and I dont know if it was how she was sitting and totally normal or if theres a problem but she has a bald area around her nipple. I can only see one and was unable to check the rest as every time I tried she got more and more upset. I did try touching and feeling the skin and she just looked at me and then got off my knee but it was in the 'do you mind' not the 'ouchy' way if that makes sense.

Is it normal and was Amber just being a slob yesterday?

Thank you

I'm pretty sure (that like us!   :-[ ) there is no hair on the actual nipple, but is shouldn't be bald around it I dont think???  :-:

Hi
My short haired lady Lilli has a hair free area round all of hers - always has had as far as I can remember. I tried to take a photo for you, but she wasn't in a compliant mood!

Nuggie is bald round the nips....not as big a 5p but bald all the same. He's also a fluff ball (that isnt too keen on belly inspection)
Peanut also suffers Nip Baldness  :shy: but it isnt noticeable unless he stretches out and his fur isnt laying properly
Tazi's baldy bit wasnt so noticable as he was white but I could see all 6 of his pinkies again when stretched out  :evillaugh:

Exactly the same here, both mine have a ring of baldness round the nipples but a) I wouldn't say it's a s big as a 5p and b) it's only noticebale when the fur is laying funny.

All of mine have always had a baldy bit round their nipples. Not even in size either, even on the same cat (I.e. some baldy bits bigger than others, even on the same cat). I would have thought it was so that kittens would find it easy to latch on when feeding, rather than get a mouthful of hair, maybe?
