You may have noticed that I have not been around much over the past 6 months but my time has been consumed with caring for Sophie and her having to go to the vets on a regular basis, excuse this being short but Sophie was my 18 year old cat who has been battling very bravely CRF for the past 31 months.
Sadly and with a broken heart on 3rd October 2011 it was decided with my vets it was kinder to let her go to Rainbow Bridge where she would be free from pain and restored to full health.
RIP My Sophie Loaf may you run free and be free from pain over on the bridge where we will be reunited again

So sorry to hear this Ellen  It's devastating to lose any cat but when you have nursed them for such a long time it hids you just that bit harder
RIP Sophie, safe and sound at the Bridge by now xx
The Greatest Gift
I always knew this time would come,
From the very instant our eyes first met.
How I loved you then! How I love you now!
I made a promise then, and I will keep that promise now...
You will not suffer from a pain that will not heal;
You will not know the loss of a life remembered, now gone.
It is for me alone to make this decision,
The price for the bright joy and pure laughter
You brought me during the time we shared.
I am the only one who can decide when it is time.
When my hope dies, and my fear rides high,
Just when I need you most, I must let you go.
It is for you alone to tell me when you are ready
For without your guidance, I will not know
When to lay my grief, my guilt, my anger
My sorrow and my selfish heart aside
And give you this last gift, this greatest gift.
Your eyes will speak to mine, and I will know.
The pain of this moment is excruciating.
Tears stream down my face in a river of sorrow.
And my heart drowns in a pool of grief.
For you have spoken and I have listened,
And unlike other decisions I have made
This one brings no relief...no comfort...no peace.
For if there´s one thing you´ve taught me,
If there´s only one thing I´ve learned...
Unconditional love has a condition after all,
I must be willing to let you go, when you speak to me
I must be willing to help you go, if you cannot go alone.
And I must accept my pain so you can be free of yours.
Go easily now, go quickly now,
Do not linger here, it is time for you to leave.
Go find your strength, go find your youth.
Go find the ones who've gone before you.
You are free to leave me now, free to let your spirit soar
Rest easy now, your pain will soon be gone.
I pray I will find comfort in my memories...
In the dark and lonely days ahead.
I cannot say I will not miss you, I cannot say I will not cry.
For only my tears can heal my broken heart.
But, I promise you this; as long as I live,
You will live, alive in my mind, forever in my heart.
So I give you this last gift, all I have left to give,
And this will be my greatest gift...sending you away.
It is the measure of my unconditional love...
For only the greatest love can say,
"Good-bye, go find the bridge, we'll meet again,
Loving you has been the greatest gift of all."
Forever and Always... Until Rainbow bridge....

Aww, what a sweetie - she looked a lot like my Bass.
So sorry Sophie had to leave you but 18 is a fantastic age, and she'll have known you did all you could for her.
RIP Sophie.

We lost our Freddie to CRF in July and know exactly how you feel :'( The empty aching feeling will lessen in time slowly to be replaced with warm memories. You did the very kindest thing possible for your girl. Always remember that
I don't know Sophie's story and just hope most of her 18 years were spent with you being loved and cherished as a beautiful lady should be
RIP gorgeous girl :(

RIP gorgeous girl :(
Short version she was in rescue and terrorising the staff and one of them knew me and asked if I would give a home as she had only until the weekend to find a home or she was being PTS. At the time she was between 1 and 2 years old, and as they say the rest is history she came to live with me.

So sorry about your beautiful Sophie. She sounds quite a character!
You know you did the right thing I'm sure, not that it is of much comfort at this stage. Anybody who has had a cat with CRF knows that there is a time when you know you need to let them go and you did all you could and more. to have kept her going for 31 months is amazing. (We only managed to keep our poor Holly for a year) so you really did well and gave her a lovely life.
Is very hard, especially having had Sophie for so long and you will miss her for ever I expect. Hope the other cats aren't missing her too much. (Izzy saw Domino's post on Cat's Mouths and told me all about it ; ) ............. )
