Title: The lovely Muesli, still waiting for a home with his bro....
Post by: deniseb90 on April 29, 2007, 18:13:08 PM
Took some more photos of Muesli, as he was feeling like posing today!  Have had him and his brother since 12 Feb, so they would really like to stretch their legs in a new home...

It upsets me too, but it was a temporary home with me or a life of misery???  Don't make me feel worse than I already do - they've got a run, I spend as much time as I can with them and they're well fed and warm - if I could have them all inside my house I would, but it's not very practical.

I know Lynn, I hate keeping them in there but there's no alternative - I'm sure they'll get a home soon and will forget about their time with me.  I had a lovely email today from a lady who homed one of Flora's babies and she sent me a picture of him, which I shall attach, he is gorgeous!!  His name is Elvis "Light" - as we had two Elvis', one dark and one light!

And here's a pic sent in a few weeks ago from a couple who adopted Ziggy and Jack (or Runty as I named him, as the one on the right was the ninth born, very tiny, thought he wouldn't make it, but he came round and turned out to be the little monster of the group!!!)

Elvis is scrummy  :Luv:  :Luv:  I really hope Muesli and his brother find their loving home.  Don't feel bad about caging them, at least this way they have been given a chance that they hadn't got before.  I'm sure Mark wasn't trying to make you feel bad   I have mine indoors and do cage them initially but then let them run riot in the house.........this isn't ideal though as they are slowly but surely wrecking the place and taking over the bedrooms   When I first starting doing rescue, they would be caged at night and have free run in the day........they used to be funny as everyone knew who slept where and would be really obediant going into their beds when it was time for bed :Luv:  :Luv:  I then started being too soft and letting them stay out so they slept wherever   I should have stuck to my initial plan really  ;)

I know, I didn't want to sound off like that, but I can't have them indoors as I have 3 cats and 1 dog of my own and these two boys are very timid and scared of everything (apart from me thankfully!)  They were abused and kept in one dark room for all of their 2-3 years - they are slowly coming around.  I will let them out in a couple of weeks if they haven't been rehomed, but it's a risk as these two may not want to come back or get lost, as they've never been outside before.

I had Flora indoors with her 9 kittens (ohmigod - big mistake!!!)  My poor dog hated it, as Flora frequently tried to beat him up - now all fosters go in the cat house  in the garden or the kitten room.

I deal with a lot of timid cats and I also have 2 large dogs and a houseful of moggies so they do settle down eventually.  In your situation, I would keep them caged if they can't be brought indoors.  I don't think it would be adviseable to let them out if they are nervous and there is a risk that they won't return and especially as they've never been outside before.......at least caged, you know where they are and they are safe.

Yeh you're right Dawn - just wish that someone will give them a home soon as we've had them too long!  I let Beauty out - and she runs around the garden or follows me and then wants to be let back in to the kitten room, but just can't chance it with these boys as they will be off!!

How long have you had them now?  I deal with ferals and one day I came down and my heart was in my mouth........the bloody dog had opened the back door and they were all running round in the garden   I honestly thought I would lose a couple of them as most were still really nervous of humans.  I'm glad to say every single one of them came back in within the day.........I trapped 2 of them but the others came in off their own steam and the only reason I had to trap 2 was that they wanted to come in but they were nervous of the dogs.  It can be done as long as the area is safe and quiet obviously but I think with your two, again it would put me off the fact they'd never been out.

Had them about 6 weeks I think (but they have been with Anim-Mates since mid Feb)  - have been sooo tempted to let them out but really don't think they'd cope (or come back).  Have only lost one foster - and he was on the run for two weeks until I managed to get him back - a lady round the corner was feeding him salmon - so no wonder he didn't want to return!!!

I've seen her a couple of times but probably won't see her again now  :'( but the last time I saw her she hissed at me !!!  which was a good thing as she probably thinks of me as the horrid woman who used to take her to the vets all the time!!!

Good luck with Muesli and Mozart - I wouldn't let them out with their background - are you allowed to let fosters out? I am only allowed to let long termers out, we dont want the short termers getting used to my area. IT isn't nice seeing them caged, but just think of how much better they have things now. Wonderful seeing pics of Flora's babies, i really can't believe how big they are now!!

I can't let these two out because i know i won't be able to get them backi in - but i let nero out yestrerday and today and he loved it.  Brought me half a mouse and a bird (poor things) he was very pleased with himself!  He's back in the pen now having a well earned sleep.   Flora's babies are lovely - great to get updates about them.  Muesli and Mozart don't seem stressed being in the pen, but Nero was as he lived with a family since a kitten and was used to the outdoors - but these two have never been out, having only been confined to one room with 13 others for four years.

I'm very lucky that I'm in a rural area with a large garden so that foster cats can be let out after a time - just feel sorry for the local wildlife!!
