Title: Lacie's Operation
Post by: Lindsey (thefunkyinuit) on September 02, 2011, 15:06:27 PM
Hi everyone, I haven't been on for a while, truth be told, I was getting myself upset reading about all the sick kitties & bridge babes  :(

I thought i'd pop back to let you all know how Lacie is getting on!

Some of you may remember that she had a lump on the side of her head checked last year, which appeared to be a cyst so it was left as it wasn't bothering her at all, well, the lump grew to around 3cm across and she also developed another on the top of her head so the vets decided that as the bigger lump seemed to be bothering her now (she started scratching at it) and that her diabetes is well under control, it would be best to remove both of them.

She had the op yesterday and everything went fine, shes feeling very sorry for herself at the moment and is looking a little like Frankenkitty, but hopefully she is on the mend  :)

(I'm told that the stitches will slacken off, the tightness next to her eye can't be particularly pleasant) :(

She also has bruised legs as they found it hard to find a vein for the drip. I can't wait to get home from work to look after her!

Thanks everyone, Lacie meows thanks also  :Luv:
Shes just had her tea and some dreamies (as soon as the dreamies come out she perks up!)  ;) So her appetite aint bad and at least I can give her her insulin as normal.
If it wasn't for her squinty eye, she would almost look back to normal in her face (if you know what I mean!) She looks bright-eyed in her other one! I double checked about her eye when my vet rang up to check on her today, she said that theres plenty of skin there so should slacken off soon.

Just a quick update, Lacie is doing fine, her eye looks much better & the wounds are healing nicely (the one on her face looks a little sore but nothing to worry about) She goes for her post-op check up on Monday. She had proper stiches in which will need removing, will they need to sedate her again to do this? I really hope they don't as thats the part that really worries me! x

Glad to hear she is doing so well. I don't think she will need sedated as with a stitch remover and experienced vet and nurse it should be done very quickly.
Hope she is soon growing her fur back again and looking as beautiful as ever :)

Pleased everything is healing as it should  :) I don't think they need to sedate for stictch removal as it's a fairly quick process

When wounds heal the stitches vecome very loose, so I agree with the others  ;D

I think I jinxed it with the update yesterday!  :tired:
Had to nip up to the vets this morning because she had managed to losen her buster collar and had somehow got to her stitches!
Luckily she had only managed to remove one so its not too bad, the vet cleaned it up and has given her a 4 day course of antibiotics just incase.

 :tired:

Had to have a second trip to the vets.

When I got home from work she had got at it again. Now she has two staples where the stitches were and a longer buster collar.
I'm still really worried about it because she keeps rubbing the buster collar with her paw so that it rubs against her face.  :(
AND the vet said that her eye looks sore so has prescribed eye drops!
That means that I have to give her 2 insulin injections, 1 kidney tablet, 2 antibiotics, eye drops twice a day, katalax for her constipation and get her to eat properly, i'm feeling quite stressed right now!
On the plus side, the lumps she had removed were confirmed to be benign cysts, the larger one had burst which was why it had grown so quickly and why it was irritating her.
I'm gonna have to get up extra early to sort her out before work tomorrow & my mum is gonna pop in to check on her while I'm at work.
I just really really hope she doesn't get at her wound again, fingers crossed please!

I know, I have told her but she just doesn't listen!

Even though I got up extra early this morning, I was 10 minutes late for work  :-[
I succeeded to get all her meds done bar one eye drop! I got them in the eye thats the worst but I found it very difficult to do them on my own so i'm gonna have to get my hubby to help me!
