My vet friend contacted me (yet again!) about an old stray girl that was taken into her practice. She was literally going crazy and was absolutely manic. She couldn't be handled easy, and was likely to be PTS. My friend saw her and hyperthyroidism came straight to mind!! They ran bloods, and her T4 level was 258!!!!! (T4 range is between 10-55!) So no wonder she was manic! As normal, I got the call and said I'd have her, provided she got on ok with my gang! She's felv/fiv neg, so she came here last Sunday. We estimate she's easy mid-teens+ (speckled eyes, thickened nails, horrid teeth etc) but she's VERY fit and otherwise healthy, and she loves to play 'chase the toy/feather!'. Fast as lightning and very agile! Only problem is she instantly started launching at my other 10... spitting, growling, hissing, swiping... so unless she settles A LOT I think she'd be better as an only cat, or in a household with a lot less cats! I'm hoping she'll settle more (been on Felimazone about 12 days) once her Hyper-T is controlled. She's very sweet and purry, but seems a little sore on the back end. Sometimes she turns into a bit of a bag and growls, but she's never followed through with her threats!!
So, for now, I've named her Edna (as in evil Edna!) And here she is...

She's lovely :Luv: If only they could understand that it'll all be OK and that if she settles in she can stay and will be loved and cared for :shy:

She's sweet :Luv2: Maybe did the intros a bit soon? I usually let newbies settle in their own room for a good few weeks (depends on the cat tho) before introducing to others. But, like you said, maybe its just the hyper T making her, well....hyper! lol :) and she will settle down.

I do hope so!! She's very cute and you can tell she's sweet underneath it all, but I think she needs the consistent meds for a couple of weeks, re-checking, and the dosage balancing. I've always just brought cats home, put them in a crate for an hour, and then let them out! She's the first in 14 cats that's been like that! Guess I've been lucky! Fingers crossed it's just the condition. She's very active for her age... once the meds balance out right she'll probably just sleep and eat like a proper oldie!!! ;)
The name Edna may stick, though!!!

What a lovely girl :Luv: hope she settles down soon.

She's gorgeous! once her thyroid is stabilised she will feel more settled and chill out but, if she's generally not keen on other cats I doubt that will change although she may learn to tolerate them.

Aaw I hope she does settle, she's gorgeous and I just love those long long long whiskers :Luv2:
Is that a patch of different coloured fur under her chin or is it a shaved are growing back?
Good luck.

Her coat looks very shiny considering her T4 results. Very beautiful girl :Luv:
Very much hope her meds settle her down :care: :care: :care:

If she were a tortie instead of black, she could be my rainbow cat Steffie.......
She is lovely!!!

What a sweet girl!
I guess this is what Bass will look like in a few years!

The patch on her neck is her clip patch from when she had bloods... She's actually settled a bit more since yesterday. Now, the other cats wander in, sniff her bowl, wander round the office, and she just watches them, so fingers crossed! She is very pretty, and it's so funny to watch her chasing toys! Gonna try a catnip sack soon, but I imagine she'll love it! She's gone a bit sloppy, so gonna pop some fortiflora in her food for a few days. He coat is remarkably shiny, considering! But she's moulting a fair bit, and is the messiest eater! She was 1.7kg when she got taken into the vets, and is already 2.4kg, so she's gaining weight.
Out of all my cats (Ned's the boss boy!) it's little young Gladys who sits in the doorway watching her as if to say, "you don't scare me, you old bat". She then walks in, watching her cautiously, and steals any left over food!
So, we'll see how she goes.

Oh dear :( 1.7kg is very light for a fully grown cat but getting her up to 2.4kg is really marvellous :)
