Post by: Tan on June 06, 2011, 17:13:15 PM
Hmm had a silly thought this am  :-:  :evillaugh:

While i was brushing Garfy this am he had a single hair from his coat stuck on his nose now while i was removing this item i thought "well it's not a hair is it cause it 's really fur but what do you call a single fur??  :-:
Do we actually have a word for just one??

Whatcha reckon?

Oh goo on then ..... I'll play  :innocent:

Noun: The short, fine, soft hair of certain animals: "a long, lean, muscular cat with sleek fur"  :)

Hmmm  :evillaugh:  Yes it was those wages.. to many bank holidays in the payroll and it took ages!!  :innocent:

Soo  we still call it a "hair" then  ie Hair is the singular of Fur.  Hmmmm does sound more of a hooman hair saying that. I think we should have a word just for a "fur hair"  I mean you can say to a hooman person ........... "ooooo you've got a hair on your nose" and we all know it means a single one  but can't say to an animal "oooo you've got a fur on your nose" (fleshy bit of nose) can ya??

 :shify:

When it comes to Amber she gets her hair in my eyes (singular) but when attached to her nose its usually fluff (plural) When we're talking about carpet its just mess  :evillaugh: :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

Does this have to apply to all animals?  I mean dogs have a coat made up of individual hairs.........  Or does it just have to apply to furries e.g. puddies, rabbits, mices etc

Fur is when it's still attached to the animal, it becomes hair when it's detached.

That's my theory anyway, and explains why it's fur on the cat but hair on our clothes!

It is singular or plural in my world - so we have a fur and we have fur  ;D  simples!
