Winston has had a heart murmur for a while and on his check up on Tuesday the vet decided he should have an xray and heart scan to see how things are .
After Olivia i am worried sick about having him sedated , he is almost 13 (in May).
I keep telling myself that he has had teeth done twice now about 5 years ago and was absolutely fine then , but its not stopping me worrying about him.
I just need some healing/ok vibes for him to come round and be ok .
He is going in on monday at 9am .

Thanks everyone .
I also have to go through the "starving" tomorrow -no food after 6pm -its not easy when there are 4 others and food is always down for them to eat at their leisure.
Since going to the vet i keep watching him to see if there are any signs he is ill in any way -talk about paranoid now !
Also , he seems to be even more picky with his food lately and am wondering if that some sign of something wrong !?
For the size he is , he doesnt look to me as if he eats that much , i probably open him 5-6 sachets a day as he will only eat a few mouthfuls and then leave the rest -its no use leaving it down or giving him less as he will not eat what left ,even if its still got half in the sachet -he looks at me as if to say "you are joking , i had that flavour earlier !"
He does eat biscuits through the night though as heard him crunching them -i know who is eating them as i can tell how each one eats !!!!
He doesn''t like chicken either ,but does like his fish or prawns on saturdays .
-
Lots of love and great big huggles for special handsome Winston - will be thinking of you both Gill and sending lots of positive vibes xxx

Of course Mary
He has had fish tonight ( cod loin) he is having prawns tomorrow at 5.50pm ( so he doesn't starve till after the vets) then he will have some more prawns after he comes home .
Probably will turn his nose up for a few days after at normal cat food

Any news on Winston?
-
Hi,
Winston is back from the vets and seems pretty ok , a bit still not quite with it -but saying that, has managed to eat a big bowl of prawns whilst looking out his window and has now settled down for a sleep .
He has had a heart scan , x ray and bloods done .
They showed a slighly enlarged heart , so he is also on fortekor now , his bloods were all ok except his glucose? its a bit high so are keeping an eye on that and is going to see him in 6 months for possibly another scan .
All in all , what i expected with his heart . I knew for a while he had a murmour , didnt know about his glucose though .
Thats 2 cats on fortekor now !
I am just relieved he is back home with me and getting extra love and cuddles (if thats possible !!!)
Thanks for the vibes everyone :thanks:
-
Aw that's quite good news Gill. At least knowing about the glucose you can get it sorted.
Bet he's a happy chappie with his prawns and cuddles. :Luv2:

So glad he came thru his GA OK Gill :) :) As Mary said re the glucose; at least an eye can be kept on poss problem
Our Fred is on Benazacare rather than Fortekor (for renal rather than heart probs). I think Benazacare works out cheaper than Fortekor as dosage is less. May be wrong. Just thought I'd mention :shy:
-
Thanks -will mention the Benazacare to the vet as need to ring him tomorrow as with everything else i forgot to ask him about Winstons leg .
He keeps holding up his right leg quite a lot and the vet thought it may be a touch of arthritis and was going to see if he could get it in the xray if he could .
-
, his bloods were all ok except his glucose? its a bit high so are keeping an eye on that and is going to see him in 6 months for possibly another scan .
Glad he's back home  If I remember rightly, my Sam's bloods showed high glucose (he had HCM), and I think my vet said it can be high due to stress - i.e. the stress of being at the vets.
-
So pleased Winston is back Ok and hope that any problems can be kept under control
-
Thanks Gillian -yes, that is what he said -i remember now you said that ! he mentioned HCM , his bood pressure was normal too.
Its a lot to remember when they tell you a lot -he also showed me his xrays and scan and explained them too -he is a wonderful vet . ( he said he was a very good boy for them too :Luv2: )
Just rang as forgot to ask if he found any problems with his leg that he kept holding up -he has a touch of arthritis and am picking up something for it -drops to put on his food -forgot the name , begins with M . but not Metacam -similar name.
-
Glad he's home safe and sound
