Title: I'm new & have an urgent question
Post by: Smitherooney on February 08, 2011, 15:42:40 PM
HI THERE. I'VE ONLY JOINED TODAY. COULD ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE ABOUT A PROBLEM I HAVE WITH MY 14 YR OLD RUPERT.
UNFORTUNATELY RUPERT LIKES TO 'WEE' AROUND THE HOUSE THAT IS NOT IN HIS LITTER TRAY. WE MOVED HOUSE LASST WEEK AND BEFORE WE DID HE LIKED THE DARK BROWN RUG IN THE LIVING ROOM AS HIS FAVOURITE 'WATERING' HOLE. UNDERSTANDABLY HE IS IN A STRANGE HOUSE NOW AND NOT TOO SURE OF HIMSELF AND HIS SURROUNDINGS. I CAUGHT HIM THIS MORNING 'WEEING' BY THE FRONT DOOR. NOW I KNOW HE IS OLD BUT WE ARE NOW I N A RENTED HOUSE AND CANNOT HAVE THE PLACE SMELLING OF CAT PEE ETC.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHY HE DOES THIS? HE HAS BEEN DOING IT WELL BEFORE WE HAD THE KITTEN LAST JUNE SO IT CAN'T BE THAT EITHER.

Have you been to the vet to check for any underlying medical conditions? Once you do that you can start with the behavioural issues it may be.

Yep, ruling out a medical issue has to be your first port of call. In front of doors is a common place for insecure cats to inappropriately toilet, but I wouldn't rule out a health problem either because insecure cats often have stress related illnesses much like people.

Please can you type in normal type cos uppercase is very hard to read and also considered to be shouting.

I suspect that poor Rupert is very stressed after the move and is showing his dislike at being uprooted.

As said by previous poster, a trip to vets needs to take place.

TRy putting a puppy pad down in the place he likes to go, this is then easy to pick up and chuck and replace.

I agree with the others that it would be best to get Rupert checked by a vet but it definitely sounds like the move has upset him.

I know you've already moved but there may be some helpful advice on here too:
