went to vet for his test results. Its as worse as it could be. He's got lymphoma. Apparently the lab couldn't tell which organs were affected. Vet thinks we have weeks with our Ginger ninja rather than months.
Its not really sunk in yet as he seems so much better.
-
Oh Cazzer , I'm so sorry - I am sure that however long he has it will be filled with love and cuddles.
-
So sorry, but I'm sure you will make sure his remaining time will be full of love.
-
So sorry
-
Sorry to hear your bad news, poor Ginger :(
-
Oh no. :care:
-
I am sorry to hear that Ginger is so unwell. I think they are given a special twilight time free of any suffering to say their goodbyes. You can live a lifetime in a short space of time if it is filled with love and Gingers time will be.
Live for the day and treasure each moment xx
-
So sorry to hear this Cazzer  So unfair :(
Live for the day and treasure each moment xx
Can only echo this sentiment
-
Thanks everyone. I always knew he would never make an old cat due to his heart murmur, and have been saying for years he could go at any time. So i guess its a little easier to accept. He's going to have lots of webbox, thrive ertc thats for sure in the time he's got left.
-
So sorry to hear this sad news and everyday will be his birthday with you
-
Oh hell, that's crap. I lost my last cat, Jones, to lymphoma - although he wasn't diagnosed till very late so I didn't get much time with him.
Really sorry to hear this - how old is Ginger?
-
:( so sad to read this, for you and your darling boy
-
I'm so very sorry to hear this
-
I lost my Issey to Lymphoma, she was only 5yrs old.
Steroids will give you more time, have a chat with your vet about which route you take.
I am so so sorry for you and Ginger :'( :'(

-
Oh, I'm so so sorry Cazzer
although Misty had CRF, he was diagnosed with Lymphoma, and in the end, it was this that took him from me :(
I'm sure you will do best by Ginger and spoil him rotton
Give him a loving chin tickle from me
Thinking of you
-
  sorry to hear :(
-
So sorry to hear this news.
Hoping the rest of his time is spent with love, treats and loads of cuddles
-
So very sorry to hear this, big  for you and Ginger xxx
Cherish every moment with him and tell him that you love him often xxx
-
Love him every day you can and most of all love him for being Ginger
Having spent 6 months nursing Sweetie I thank everyday for my back injury and RSI as I spent everyday with her and have wonderful memories
-
So very sorry to read this - try to make the best of the time you have together - not easy I know
-
Thanks everyone. Ginger is not too good this morning he isn't even having his treats. Hoping that he will feel better once his meds have kicked in but not overly optimistic
-

The steroids should make him feel abit better ....
Is he on 5mg once a day ?
-
I hope Ginger improves over the next 24 hrs
-
The steroids should make him feel abit better ....
Is he on 5mg once a day ?
thanks both. no he is on 7.5 mg twice a day. He is not eating at all and refusing the webbox
-

-
thanks Stuart it means a lot to me that you post on this thread given your recent loss. Ginger has just eaten a reasonable amount of food. Gave him his tablets mashed up in primula cheese, which he seemed to like. Perhaps he had cottoned onto fact we were hiding medicine in his webbox.
-
Glad to hear Ginger has eaten something.... It's been said many times before but it is so terribly upsetting when they won't eat
-
Yes Rosella I was really worried that he hadn't eaten and thought we might of been making that decision very soon. He has eaten again this morning and had his tablets in his webbox no problem at all. Wondering if he didn't actually like the webbox flavour we tried yesterday.
-
Another one pleased to hear he's eaten something  Hope the steroids kick in and do their job, I know when Tiggy was on steroids her appetite used to go through the roof and she really perked up.
She used to have an injected cortico-steroid around once a month, might be an option for Ginger if he's twigging on to the tablets?
-
   and cherish every moment you have left together
-
Sorry sweetie I've only just seen this post
Hope the steroids do their job, and as others have said, cherish every moment you have together
-
Thats quite a high doze of steroids, glad they are kicking in and he is eating something.
They also act as a painkiller and also give the cat a sense of "well being" (well thats what my vet told me)
Big kisses to Ginger xx
-
So pleased he has eaten andis taking meds
-
so sorry to hear this  I hope the steroids work and that he has good quality of life for as long as possible. He certainly won't go short on love
-
Hows Ginger doing ?
-
he's about the same thanks can't say that I see any change in him for the better since he has been on the steroids etc. Some days he'll eat his webbox with the tablets in, other days he won't. I think he's probably eating a bit less overall. Although he stuffed his face last night with some raw organic beef no problem! back down to the vets for a checkup tomorrow with him
-
Some days he'll eat his webbox with the tablets in, other days he won't.
Hi
That might be why you aren't seeing an improvement, although check with you vet tomorrow
Good luck tomorrow xx
-
he's still getting his tablets though as on those days he won't eat the webbox we crush them up and mix with Primula cheese!
-
Will be thinking of you tomorrow, hope the vet visit goes well
-
thinking of you both for today
-
I hope that the vet visit goes well
-
Been thinking about you today
-
How's Ginger doing? :care:
-
Thanks everyone. well vet was pretty pleased wih him last night. He had actually put a bit of weight on [which is not due to the steroids]. As a result of this we are going to stop the mirtazapine and see how he does eating without it. Vet says at some point he will stop eating and we will need it then. He's coming to Glastonbury with us again this morning which he seems to enjoy due to getting the undivided attention of us and lots of treats.
-
Glas the vet visit went OK, hope he enjoys his trip away
-
Hope this continues and he enjoys his little holiday with you
-
thanks both he has been very good on his holiday. He's eaten all his tablets in his webbox. he's been very interested in the local wildlife and seems more interested in life generally and has even been climbing into high up cupboards in the van! He is having a nap now though
-
This sounds very good ;D
-
Ginger's not doing so well at moment. we knew one cat has had soft poops for a couple of days but didn't know which one until today, when we saw him have diarrhoea typically after we came back from the vets with Oska. We did tell vet though that we thought it was Ginger and she said it could be the lymphoma getting worse. He has started holding his paw up again which he hasn't done since he was on steroids. He's on a diet of chicken to see if that helps and if not vet will give him some more drugs. Poor lad :'( I think we will probably be giving vet a ring in the morning.
-
So sorry Cazzer and sending lots of good wishes and hope he will be OK
-
Hope Ginger has improved over night
-
thanks both, found another pile of diarrhoea on carpet this morning :(. Vet is going to give him some meds to see if that will help. He is still scoffing his chicken though which is good. Hopefully between the two that will firm things up. can't be pleasant for him, we can hear his belly grumbling away occasionally.
-
Maybe Lacto B will help Ginger and hope he improves quick
-
 Hoping for improvement for Ginger.
-
Fingers crossed the meds work
-
thanks, we've got some fortiflora for him so will see if that helps.
-
Sending a gentle :care: to Ginger and a  to you...
-
well he's had another bout. However it did seem a bit less runny than the last lot. so hopefully the fortiflora and the chicken are helping him
-
Hope it clears up soon
-
thanks very much. There was some in a litter tray this morning [which is an improvement as he has not managed to get to the trays in time since Friday]. Not heard his belly grumbling either. He's been eating chicken still along with a tiny bit of Grau [forgot that I'd left it out for the others]. Shall keep him on chicken until Tuesday [one of the kittens is due to be spayed tomorrow, so we would be feeding her chicken anyway]. I think by then we can assume that its not food related if it is carrying on. He's still happy enough and enjoying his cuddles.
-
He's still happy enough and enjoying his cuddles.
That's the important thing! ;D
-
I am sure the probiotics are helping and would make sure he has some every day
-
well no more diarrhoea from the Ginger Ninja, but he is holding his paw up and is now limping on the rear legs. Waiting on a call from vet as to whether she wants to see him [we have appointment later with Kalle and Kyrre and would take Ging instead]. He's been demanding cuddles from me all morning. Love him :Luv2:
-
Sounds like he is in pain, hope the vet can sort him out
-
Just spoken to vet and we are taking him tonight. Yes I think he is in pain now as well Gill. There is nothing wrong with his appetite though as he just came and demanded chicken. He ate a full bowl of that. At this point the wegies realised they were missing out on something tasty and as I didn't have much chicken left I opened a can of almo nature. {I'd bought a few different types of food in case we need to pursuade him to eat later on}. He then muscled his way to the bowl and proceeded to eat that as well!
-
Maybe he has arthritus in the back legs, do hope its nothing serious
-
hi Gill you could be right. Just back from vet and she thinks it is either arthritis or its the lymphoma pressing on his spine. We've now got pain killers as well for him. Got to update her as to how he is doing in a week. He's basically not moved out of the carrier since we came home poor lad. I think he's feeling a bit fed up. He's not even moved for his food so Alan hand fed him his chicken.
-
Sending lots of love to him and from Franta who is under my chin
-
Hope the painkillers work for Ginger
-
Sending extra :care: Ginger's way
-
the boy isn't so good tonight. He seems to be hobbling around worse than last night, even though he is on painkillers. His poop is still pretty soft even though he's been on chicken and fortiflora since Saturday. He's even been a little bit grumpy and hissed at the other cats, which isn't like him at all. Nothing is wrong with his appetite though, he's just ate a load of chicken. He seems to be getting gradually worse every day, with more symptoms occuring. I was hoping the steroids etc would give us a bit of extra time with him, not sure though we are going to have much longer though.
Feeling quite despondent
-
What painkillers has he been given...............metacam??
I hope that he can be helped
-
thanks no Gill he can't have metacam as he's on steroids. He's on vetergesic. We are going to reduce the dosage tomorrow as vet did say that it can make them sleepy and a bit unsteady. She did say we may ahve to reduce the dose. Since he has been given his dose tonight he has been completly out of it [this being the first time we've seen his reaction to it as we've been out all day]
-
   to you and Ginger. Hope a lower dosage of the painkiller works.
-
I wonder if it takes time to get into his system and work effectively...........apparetly metacam has a very good half life which means thats why its so effective.
I think Franta was maybe on something like Ginger cos he cant have metacam either but was a liquid too.
-
Vetergesic (brand) is buprenorphine (drug) - related to morphine. Metacam (trade) is meloxicam (drug) a NSAID (anti-inflammatory) drug. The half life of buprenorphine is far longer than meloxicam but there is a risk of tolerance/ addiction. I always query when medics prescribe by trade name, it suggests they are getting some of their info from the drug reps.
-
Why does it suggest that they are getting info from drug reps ?
-
   all round
-
thanks everyone. this morning he didn't seem at all good, and seemed unable to walk at all. Both OH and myself both felt it was time for him to go to the bridge, and rang the vets for an appointment. However Ginger surprised OH later in the morning as he got up went to his food bowl, used litter tray and then started showing interest in a cat nip mouse! Our vet rang to see how he was and he was miaowing his head off demanding to be let out! Needless to say the appointment was cancelled. We've cut back on the dosage of the vetergesic and tonight he seems brighter than he has been for a few days. He's still eating for England and seems to be showing a bit more character than he has done for some time.
-
Goooooooooooo for it Ginger, well done
-
What a rollercoaster, sending big  to all
-
I echo what Helen has said, It is a Rollercoaster with good day's and bad
I'm Glad Ginger is Feeling better
-
So happy Ginger is feeling a lot better :)
-
Taken Ginger to the vet tonight for a check up. He's doing ok at moment and seems to be coping due his pain killers and steroids. However his lump has increased a lot in size, and vet says his body feels very different to what it should. He's put a lot of weight on which is not all due to his good appetite. Still we feel very privileged that he is still with us.
-
sending all my best cuddles to Ginger
-
Glad that he's doing ok in himself poor love, sending him lots of gentle snuggles
-
thanks very much both of you x
-
Pleased to hear Ginger is doing OK
-
Glad Ginger is still feeling OK in himself xx
-
Pleased to hear he's doing OK, the boys send him a gentle headkiss :care:
-
I hope that Gingers still doing OK
-
he seems much the same thanks Gill. He's still eating and seems quite happy in himself.
-
realised that I hadn't updated on the Ginger Ninja for a very long time. Amazingly he is still with us. {he was diagnosed with lymphoma in January}!. His lump is very big now but his quality of life is still good. He is still eating well and lump doesn't seem to affect him. Needless to say he is still on steroids and painkillers. He can still manage to surprise us his latest trick is walking along the top of the bannister . He also has regular tussles with Karlo and Kyrre. Vet is amazed that he is still with us. We feel very lucky but take each day at a time.
-
Great to hear Ginger is still comfortable and enjoying life ;D
-
Wonderrfful news and think that Sues Paddy defied the vets estimate for a number of years, so loads of years Ginge
-
;D ;D So pleased to hear this - long may it continue.
My Rosie was given two months max when a mammary tumour regrew rapidly after surgical removal but she actually had 2 quality years befor =e we had to say goodbye which just proves that predicting life-expectancy is very inexact science.
-
Was thinking about him the other day, pleased to hear he's doing well
-
Glad he's doing well Cazzer :) Where is his lump? My vet mentioned lymphoma when I took Lacie this evening.
-
So Glad He is doing well :) remember everyday He is here is special and I am sure you are treating him so ;)
I lost My Misty to Lymphosarcoma :'(
-
Thanks everyone
Glad he's doing well Cazzer :) Where is his lump? My vet mentioned lymphoma when I took Lacie this evening.
I'm not sure which organs are affected now Gillian but he no longer has a wobbly bit underneath its all solid, so its pretty big.
-
I'm glad to hear he is still fighting x
-
well I don't want to tempt fate, but a year since he was taken ill the Ginger Ninja is still with us despite only being given two weeks in January last year. He still enjoys life [and his food]. He still finds it in himself to chase the red dot and give bunny kicks and bear hugs to the Norwegians.
he is a star :Luv2:
-
Phew - when I saw this thread had resurfaced I was holding my breath.
Well done Ginger.
-
Thanks have changed it!
-
Oh Cazzer, what a rollercoaster you're on just now. Good old Ginger for sticking it out
-
Nice to see some cheery news, glad Ginger proved them all wrong and hope you have many happy times ahead
-
thanks very much. I feel very lucky to still have him with us. We are already planning our trips away in the caravan for the spring/summer and Ginger will be coming with us if possible!
-
What great news .... I think we need some pics of the ginger ninja ;)
-
wow have just read through, what an amazing story :wow: i agree we do need a pic :evillaugh:
hope sasa can get a little of his strengyh too
-
Wonderful news , keep having fun Ginger ;D ;D ;D
-
thank you everyone. He's been for a six month MOT. Vet said his heart sounds dreadful and that he really shouldn't be with us! His lump although big hasn't changed much in the last six months. He has lost quite a bit of weight though which isn't good, which shows the lymphoma is having an effect on him [although at moment he's not a thin cat] Vet was overjoyed though to see him looking so well and delighted to be proved wrong at his estimate of two weeks!!!
-
On the whole that sounds good ;D
-
It's great to hear that Ginger is still here and doing well all things considered :)
-
its almost two years ago that Ginger was diagnosed with lymphoma and given weeks!!!!!! He is still doing well with the lymphoma and severe heart murmur. However he has a nasty tooth abscess and is on ABs for this. Worry is that the AB won't clear up the infection and that he will have to have the tooth out which is a risk given his murmur. He does seem a lot brighter though than he did on Friday so hoping surgery won't be needed!
-
Well done Ginger. Sending lots of positive vibes for the ABs to do the trick.
-
Aww go Ginger, proved 'em all wrong! :wow: :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Hope the abs do the trick
Sue P little ginger ninja Paddy lived on a long time after the same diagnosis so Ginger could have years yet ;D ;D
Sending a Chrissy snuggle to him
-
Ginger thanks everyone for their vibes/Christmas wishes and says despite having a bad tooth he is looking forward to tackling the big chicken his mum has kindly bought the cats for their Christmas dinner
-
So pleased he's proving the vets wrong :) Go Ginger!
Hope the AB's can do the trick for his tooth abcess :care:
-
Keeping fingers crossed the abs work
Go Ginger FIghter!!! :Luv:
-
Thanks everyone!!!!
well I can report that Ginger had to have the op and had all of his teeth out apart from his bottom two canines. Vet said there was a case for taking these out as well but he decided not to as he felt Ginger had been under anesthetic long enough, given the murmur. Also he said cats that don't have any teeth often stick their tongues out all the time so he left him some teeth to rest his tongue against
Ginger is fine and nomming as normal
-
This is very good news, well done Ginger. :yayyy:
-
Pleased everything went well :)
-
Glad everything went well :) Ginger must be made of tough stuff!
-
Thank you yes Tiggy's Mum I think he a tough boy. He was a stray when we started looking after him and took it months before he would trust us. He spent a winter outside in a kennel before eventually coming into my kitchen on a very snowy February day. He spent a lot of time there before being accepted by my raggie who had a hatred of intruders in his territory!!!
-
So pleased that Ginger is Ok ;D ;D
