As you may know Mogs had a dental yesterday and Amber wont accept her back home. (the full stories here http://www.chaptanservices.com/purrs/index.php?topic=3586.0)
Anyway at the moment Mogs is in the bedroom shut in and Ambers got free rein of the flat should I
1) leave things as they are and hope that Mogs will come out to eat from me later and then hopefully venture out
2) leave the door open so that she can come out and risk Amber going in and attacking her
3) get Mogs out and shut the door behind her so she cant go back under the bed
4) Get Mogs out and Amber in so that they swap places and Mogs can reassert herself as the boss
I just dont know what to do for the best but if I dont get Mogs eating and drinking before 2 today she's going to have to go back to the vets which will make things worse.

It's probably the strange smells from the vet surgery which Amber doesn't like. Maybe give Mogs an unwashed jumper of yours, and rub her gently in it to transfer the smells of home. An especially grubby, recently worn one will help. Maybe also rub her in anything she usually uses, like the blanket she sleeps on.
Then try letting her out. If you have a bad reaction from Amber, shut Amber in the bedroom for a short time. This way, Mogs will be able to gather the scent of your household onto her body. Later, try letting Amber out again, and see how she reacts.
It's very common for cats to react negatively to another cat who's just come from the vet, especially after surgery. She's covered in the smell of the vet, nurses, aneasthetic, and all the other strange things, like other cats and dogs. It'll take a short while for Amber to recognise her again.

OK well Mogs has been back to the vets this afternoon. I felt I was maybe over reacting and it was just her age and the anaesthetic but I was worried. She hadnt drunk or been on the tray and was so subdued. The vet examined her and said she had a very slighty raised temperature but that could be just stress. Hes given her a pain killer injection and said her bladder was full and she wasnt dehydrated. He said I could leave her and they would monitor her and if she got dehydrated put her on a drip or I could bring her home and try to get her to eat and drink. Ive brought her home but if she isnt better tomorrow have to take her back.
When I got back Amber was in the bedroom so shes now shut in there and Mogs is with me so I can keep an eye on her. The first thing she did was use the tray which is great and shes just eaten a little coley with water on so hopefully this is the end of it.

Glad to hear she has used the tray at last, i bet you felt really relieved lol
I would keep them seperate until Mogs is feeling normal again, she should smell better by then aswell so Amber should be happier with her :innocent:

I thought Id give an update. Last night with help from a friend I managed to have both cats in the same room. The only problem was as soon as Mogs moved Amber attacked and Mogs retreated under the bed again. She stayed there all night and there were only 2 growling incidents. I had to go out this morning so I separated them and let them loose when I got home. Then the meter man came to read the meters and Amber disappeared under the bed with Mogs looking for comfort. Shes been bullying Mogs but when shes frightened goes to her for help the little :censored: Anyway this afternoon both cats have been in the kitchen and had some coley side by side. After lunch I had a rest on the settee as Im rather exhausted from everything and had Amber on my legs and Mogs near my shoulders and now they're at opposite ends of the settee snoozing gently like nothings happened!
So hopefully thats it. Thanks for all the help

I took both my kittens to the vet to be neutered today, Misty was fine and stayed for the op, Cloud was found to be pregnant and didn't have the op. All day Cloud cried for Misty, she was really distressed at his absence and rushed up to him when I bought him home, only to hiss and spit at him.
I take it is the Vet smell which is putting her off him, hopefully all will settle soon, I feel reassured by your post, it is only a matter of time.

Well today all seems good. I went out last night leaving them together and came home to find them both in the living room. This morning Amber came on the bed and when Mogs came in Amber normally stays put so Mogs wont get up or jumps down so she can swipe Mogs on the way past. Today she jumped down and had a good sniff at Mogs which had me thinking oh oh here we go but instead Mogs just sat there until she'd had enough then turned and had a good sniff at Amber who backed off.
So somehow they seem to be friends and Mogs seems to be boss again and more confident that she was before :Crazy:

Hi My friend had her cat neautered yesterday and her other 2 wont accept him now
she put him in the spare bedroom over night so he could rest and have some peace and this morning she let him out and her other two cats are trying to attack him ,so shes put him bk in the room on his own for now .

I find that often happens when a cat comes back from the vets, it must be a vet smell thing. ;D

its never happened with any of mine thankfully but then again one of mine are always going to the vets so maybe they r all use to the smell by now and see it as a second home :rofl: :rofl:

When Mosi came back from being neutered Jaffa hissed at him big time and it was several days before they were back to normal. It was ok when he went for his vaccinations a couple of weeks ago but after an op they no doubt smell much stronger of anti septic etc.

my friend is really worried and thinks they will never get on again lol
ive told her some tips on what to do which ive learnt from the replys given on this thread .

Are they 6 month old siblings? If only more vets would neuter earlier it would prevent the above from happening :(
How far along do they think she is?

Id never had it happen before even though Mogs did an over night at the vets a couple of years ago so it must have been something with the anaesthetic or a different disinfectant in the operating room but I am so glad its over as at one point I was lying awake in the night wondering which cat I would have to re home :(
I hope the cats that are having the same problems soon settle down

I am glad that Mogs and Amber are fine now Tab, it is something I havent' had with any of mine, but that could be cos they ignore each other anyway!!

my friend is still having problems with her two cats accepting the other cat bk home afer the vets on thursday,he is currently still in the spare room which he doesnt like as he misses the other two boys .

I hope they can sort themselves out soon. I still have no idea what happened between mine if there was a fight or not. Amber has got a scab on her neck but then she normally does have as she pushes her luck too far. Maybe your friend could try swapping the cats over like I did so the one thats been shut away gets to roam free and put its scent everywhere.
