Title: Don't forget Poinsetta is toxic to cats
Post by: Mark on December 08, 2010, 10:51:12 AM
As well as Lilys.

There are plenty of fake ones around so not worth risking it.

A lot of sites are now saying poinsetta isn't as dangerous as previously thought, although the sap is an irritant. I wouldn't risk it if there is any chance a cat might chew.

It is just not worth the risk but my vets have had a list up of plants and Poinsettia was still on it as poisonous to cats.  Of course those that are trying to sell it will say it is not poisonous just to get the sale.

When indie was little he ingested lilly pollen as we didn't know it was so toxic for him ... still haven't forgiven myself for that one so now i only have sunflowers or roses in the house if anything and they are kept in a room the cats only use if we are here.  Thanks for the warning though.  Wish I was on here a couple of years ago  :thanks:

The problem with lilly pollen is that it is SO EASY for a cat to ingest it...all they have to do is brush against the stamens and then when they clean themselves the damage is done.

I never have any plants in my house and only catnip in the garden now -wouldn''t dare run the risk.
