Title: Why do cat's do this?..
Post by: mervyn7451 on December 04, 2010, 13:21:55 PM
Daisy & Orbit both do it....When I scratch Daisy on the back around the area of the front shoulders, she starts to jerk her head, her eye's go funny, sort of cross eyed & she starts to lick her lips quite wildly...Sometimes she will turn her head around & try to nip my fingers.
Why does she do this?....Is it like a ticklish spot on her body?
Orbit did the same as well but for him it was the base of the tail on his back...

Pepsi used to be the same on her lower back, just where her tail is, if I touched her there she would try to nip me. I just think it might be a vulnerable spot and they just don't like being touched there, maybe in the wild that would be the place where predators would be most likely to attack them?

Its possibly very close to the nerves in her spine and you are causing a very uncomfortable reaction for her...............my cat Franta reacts if I try to get tangles out of the bottom of the back side fur and his little tongue goes madly in and out fast. It also happens if he sctratches himself there.

I actually thought it might be linked to mating behaviour. If you mean between her shoulders that's where a male cat kind of scruffs when mating so that might explain Daisy. And cats when scratched near their tail tend to "present." Does Orbit lift the back end up and lower the front?

Every cat I have ever has lifted their tail when scratched near the base of the tail. No reason why male and female cats wouldn't have the same sensitive areas - we do in humans as the nervous system is the same in both genders.

Not what I asked though....did he raise his back end when you scratched there?  ;) It doesn't mean anything about Orbit other than he was potentially showing submission. Body language is a massive factor in any species.

The Munchkin does. In fact, he often sticks his big ginger *rse in my face to make me scratch him there!
