Hi , im worried sick ,im in an awful state here ,makosi was on top of the pc desk so i went to lift her down and all yellow wet liquid stuff squirted out of her bum ( NOT POOH OR PEE )
it went over my hand and my tshirt it doesnt smell offensive but doesnt smell good either !
as u know she was spayed a few weeks bk ,
ive just rang the vet and they said she does need to be seen to check things are ok , now im in an arkward situtation here and want ur advice , our money isnt in our accont till tommorow morning , will it be ok to wait until tommorow or should i pawn something today and take her to the vet today ????????
does anyone know what this could be ???? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
the only time ive ever seen or known of this before is 2 years ago we got molly she was 7 at the time and she was not spayed ,anyway she had this fliud stuff coming from her ,i remmeber her going in my laudry basket of clean washing and sleeping then when she got up she had left all yellow stains over the washing plus when the oh was holding her she had it leak from her and oh was covered in it
we took her to the vet straight away and the vet said she had an infection in her uterus and gave her an emergency spay they opend her tummy right up and done it , instead of doing the normal op they do when they do it on there side of the cat .
but as makosi has been spayed it cant be that can it ??
-
I would get her down today, and see if htey will let you pay tomorrow. It could be diarrhea. Just for information - the infection you describe about Molly was actually pyometra, and there is a reason they have to do a different spay, it is because it isn't as simple as a normal one.
-
Hi Lisa, I wouldn't delay things just in case. I would explain to the vet about the money situation.........or just give them a cheque and they won't know any different. It might be something and nothing and may possibly be an infection.........my Maine Coon Billy used to suffer badly with his tummy and on occasion, stuff did bubble out of him and it was gross but he was always okay. Good luck with her and I really hope it's nothing serious, but try and get her in today

I didnt know it was pyo with molly ,is that the name for a uterus infection then ?
omg so she could of died ? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
with a recently spayed cat could the yellow liquid be an infection ?or once the spay has been done theres nothing left to become infected is ther ?
im just disscussing it with oh and he says im neurotic :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Thanks Dawn
im just disscusing things with oh it would defo make me feel better if i took her today
-
Yep, pyometra is literally a womb infection, and yes, animals do die from it if it isn't caught soon enough, this is why we were concerned for Makosi with her age, as I said on that thread, I have known cats younger than her have to be spayed because of it.
There shouldn't be anything left to become infected, ignore your OH, your not neurotic, any nasty smelly discharge requires an immediate vet visit - Dawn's tip of a cheque is a good one.
-
Lisa, it's possible she has an infection from the spay but you won't know until she goes to the vets. Fingers crossed she'll be okay. My german shepherd nearly died from Pyo as she had a severe heart murmur and the vets recommended again a spay because of the risks, in the end she had an emergency op but very close to losing her. I would just give a cheque to be honest if you've got a cheque book and not mention it, xxx
-
I would definitely go today. Lots of things it could be but you won't know until you go to the vet and if i'ts nothing to worry about it will set your mind at rest. It might just be fluid from her anal glands or something.
If you give them a cheque it won't go through til tomorrow anyway.
-
Hope everything goes well at the vets and makosi is ok
-
How did you get on Lisa? Hope Maskosi is ok? :)
Susanne if it was anal glands it would smell vile!
-
sounded like it is probably anal gland secretions to me, If there was anything abnormal internally after the spay i'd strongly expect her to be febrile and quite ill by the time you get to pus escaping via cervix.
-
Did you manage to get Makosi to the vets, forever?
I hope everything's ok with her.
Actually I forgot to say earlier, the best thing when in doubt is to ring your vets and ask to speak to an actual vet or nurse (not the receptionist) and describe the symptoms over the phone. They can then give you a better idea of whether something can wait until the next day than we can on here, and tell you what to watch out for etc.

Hiya sorry ive not updated sooner but have been so busy with one thing and another ,
makosi went to the vets yesterday tea time , the vet said she had a "very" high temprature
she said shes not too worried about the yellow fulid as she seems fine in her self and is eating and drinking and is lively , she was given an antibiotic injection to last 48 hrs and a 5day course of antibiotics to start taking tommorow and she has to go bk to vet nxt tuesday for a check up , theres been no more fluid from her since and she seems normal in herself ,
some of u may remember me saying that makosi had a very high temprature about 2weeks before she was spayed and had treatment for it then , i was wondering do u think it might b because she gets hot all snuggled down in her basket ( she hides under the blankets bless her ) and also maybe coz shes nervous of going to the vet , otherwise i cannot understand why she always seems to have a temprature when she goes to the vet :'(
-
I'm pleased she's okay and that they don't think it's anything serious. Stress could possibly affect the temperature slightly but I wouldn't have thought it would make a significant differance. When I used to take Little Bob in to the vets, he also used to be running a temp even when I thought he seemed 100%.
-
she gets so nervous going to the vets its unbeilvable
but as u say surely it wouldnt make a significant difference
does anyone else notice when one gets bk from the vet all the others have to check them and smell them for ages lol and the cat carrier that is aslo sniffed by all lol
mind you makosi got a bit ratty with pickles when she was sniffing her and hissed and normally they r bessie mates :Luv:
-
Am glad the vet couldn't find anything wrong with her, and good luck for the checkup on Tues.
-
Took makosi bk for her check up today and the vet said shes fine
she had a slight temprature which the vet said was proberly due to stress but its no where near has high as it was last week .
-
Thats good to hear Im glad shes feeling better
