Title: Cat Flap Help needed
Post by: happysaz133 on November 13, 2010, 23:34:13 PM
Hiya :)

I bought a Staywell 917 and it was fitted. While it works for my little girl cat, which was the intention as we thought my home-loving big boy wouldn't be interested, he's now decided he want's to be a cat flap cat too.  :innocent:

So I need a big flap, is this one any good?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Staywell-Big-Door-White-280EFS/dp/B003BQO63W/ref=sr_1_2?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1289690228&sr=1-2

I'm not quite sure if it would fit a wooden door, the 917 said it fitted up to 2inches thick door, and that fits fine, but I don't know if this one does or not, it only mentions glass doors!

If anyone has any other recommendations, that would be useful! I have the 917 fitted, so it needs to be something that would fit in that hole when I remove it!

Looked at tech details on the link and cant see it saying for glass doors only, just says universal fitting for all doors except double glazed doors.

I would suggest you look for a link to Staywell and then ring or email them.

I may be misubderstanding but a bigger flap will need the hole enlarging.

Are you sure your boy cant get out of the current one?

Thanks, I'll give them a phone. He can fit through, but very snuggly, and he usually needs a push. I worry he may try and get through when I'm not home and get stuck.

My larger lad Geoffrey also uses a large catflap, we have the catmate 221, personally I prefer catmate as the flaps have a draught strip all the way round so I find they tend to be quieter and less draughty.  We've had it for 3 years now and both kitties use it comfortably - Geoffrey has been over 7kg at his biggest  :shify:

Thanks, do you think a CatMate one would fit after me removing the staywell 917?

Probably only if you make the hole bigger (a problem I guess you'll have with any bigger cat flap).  According to google the 917 uses a hole 169 by 169 whereas the catmate 221 needs 210 by 227.  So it should fit as long as you can enlarge the hole a bit.
