Firstly - if this question is in the wrong place please feel free to move it to where you think it needs to go, but I couldn't find a general non cat bit.
I've had one of those dreaded letters from the Tax man but strangely mine says I've overpaid tax and they want to give me a refund.
£250.00 thank you very much.
But...............and its a big but. I can prove that I haven't overpaid. I actually work in accountancy and have daily dealings with a payroll system so I know how to work this information out.
This cheque came this morning !!!!!!
So - what would you guys do?
a) send the cheque back with my paperwork showing that I haven't overaid
b) hold onto the cheque and not bank it and wait for them to work out their own (very obvious and stupid) mistake
c) keep quiet, bank the cheque and buy something very nice for Daisy for Christmas and hope they don't notice.
d) phone a friend !!!!!
Answers on a postcard please !

We do have a non cat bit but it needs a few more posts to become visible ;) Will leave this here for you as you have mentioned your cat in the post :evillaugh:
I would definitely choose option C, the tax system is so intricate there could be a convoluted reason you haven't picked up on why you're entitled to the refund. Also, as it's a relatively small amount then if they do ask to be reimbursed in the future it's not going to bankrupt you trying to find the money but will come in handy just before Xmas :)
C all the way and Daisy defo deserves a few toys to keep quiet :evillaugh:

I wonder what option Daisy would pick! :sneaky: :evillaugh:
-
I too would go with C and agree with Helen ;D
-
someone somewhere must think your maths is wrong, who are you to argue!!!
-
:thanks: That's settled then. C it is. :evillaugh:
I'd thought much the same as was what Helen had said - if they come looking for it later it won't be a mega amount to find, and this side of Christmas I need it more than they do.
So me and Daisy are going to look at a few websites now ........... what's that Daisy you need a new ....

Yes I say C too and as already said, if you do a few more posts you will be one of us and you can join in the fun of the Purrs Auction on 21st November and bid for something nice for Daisy and yourself.

Doesn't the Inland Revenue usually just amend your tax code for the next year to make up the money owed? ;D
-
I would go with a because they will probably catch up with you, realise they have overpaid you and claim it back when it's least convenient to you.
-
I would contact them and say you're sure it's an error and can it be double checked. then see what happens. Either you get some jobsworth who insists they don't make errors and you keep it, or they look into it and you send it back.
That's me though. I'm too honest for my own good at times. But if you know it's not really yours you shouldn't really keep it.
Just giving my opinion though, not judging whatever your decision is! Seems like you might just be asking so you can justify keeping it. ;)
