Title: Virkon or Trigene?
Post by: Angiew on September 30, 2010, 12:49:28 PM
Hi, I've just received some trigene (got one her for you as well judith).

Have used Virkon up to now and was a bit worried about the trigene as the instructions on the container seem to indicate it can't be used in occupied pens - does this mean I have to be careful how I use it around cats?

I'm sure we use it in the vets and it is okay and found this on the web for you, which says it is suitable for animal establishments.

I use Trigene everywhere LOL! I don't buy normal houshold cleaner/disinfectants now, just got several trigger spray bottles with diluted Trigene and use it on worktops, floors, door and window frames, etc, plus in the cattery, spot cleaning, and also some goes in the washing machine when I'm washing cat towels, beds, vetbed etc.  :)

I'm sure Trigene is the one that CP recommend for fosterers to use. Will check the branch manual and confirm.

I use Trigene at the cattery and I use it while cats are in the pens!
I rang the manafracter (sp) and they said it was ok, I also asked if I had to wash it off and they said no

Had a look and both of these are on the approved list for CP fosterers to use although it does say things should be rinsed after using it.

as far as I'm aware Virkon needs to be rinsed off - I don't know about Trigene.  Have a tub of virkon here somewhere will check later

Certainly the Safe4 is completely safe and water based and so no problems as you don't need to rinse and can use it everywhere. Smells nice too with a choice of fragrances - apple, peppermint or no scent :)

Just quoting Gillian as this is exactly what I would have said! Trigene is our main household cleaner now and while I don't encourage the pet6s to walk on it until dry, I don't panic if they do and nevert had any probs :)

The apple Safe4 smells sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nice!!!!! I would always pick that in a heartbeat.

It was used at the last place I worked at - It was perfectly safe for all the animals. No rinsing and no worrying about the animals being in the pens at the time.
