That advert makes me want to own 100 cats not shop at Ikea!!!
How adorable! :Luv: Must have been utter chaos on set though - crikey! ;D
-
There's a behind the scenes type video here http://gizmodo.com/5634257/ikea-let-loose-a-herd-of-100-cats-into-store-to-see-what-happens
-
You beat me to it .... my colleauge has just sent me a link to this!
-
How cool is that :wow:
Love the behind the scenes bit where the cat grabs the big furry 'mouse' off the microphone :evillaugh:
-
Heee thats brilliant
love
Tab
-
i love the little sphynx getting warm near all the lightbulbs!
-
Can't view it unfortunately as don't have right version of flash on pc. I will just have to wait for it to air on tv!
-
That's brilliant ;D ;D ;D

It must be just me, I find it totally irresponsible and would never dream of letting my cats loose with a hundred others they don't know. I can't believe the owners are finding it funny that their cats are fighting and getting stuck in places. Sorry, I think its horrible :(
-
I was a little bit dubious about it, especially the daft lass that was like 'they're fighting all over the place!' or something, with a big grin on her face  Also what if someone was allergic to cats and bought one of the beds or sofas that they'd been lying all over? And didn't the start scratching all the sofas and things too? I do quite like the finished advert though, but it could have been thought through a little better
-
I haven't ever had a cat which would respond well to that sort of experience. I can see how you might know how an experienced show pedigree would react, but surely you wouldn't want entire cats roaming about IKEA (marking, fights, one night stands)?
-
Managed to view it on a public pc in the library but without sound. Love it! The finished ad that is, I've not looked at the behind the scenes one. I love the final shot of the cat in bed :Luv:
The actual ad isn't suggesting people let their cats loose in an ikea store and there is no fighting in it. Were the cats not all "actors" then? I assume from what you're saying that people just took their cats along? That doesn't sound like a good idea and I would have expected it to be a bit more stage managed and to use cats that were used to being used in ads/films etc.? I do think the finished ad is very clever.

No Gillian it's not just you. I wouldn't dream of putting any of our lot in such a situation either but the advert itself is quite beautiful.

I think it's awful - My lot would be terrified. I agree with the comment on the page about cats being territorial and relying on scent. One of the worst things was the cat that got trapped behind a wall - it could have been tragic. All for an arty-farty ad :tired:

I agree.
I can't listen to sound on this pc so haven't been able to listen to the behind the scenes stuff. If they encouraged people to bring cats along and leave them in the store overnight, then I don't approve (mind you, an ikea store is rather large!). Surely there would have been a better way of doing it - to film cats individually and then edit it. But I do love the end advert.

No it's not just you. The ad is beautifully filmed but I made a similar comment to you about this ad on another forum. Cats like their own territory and I believe many of them would feel stressed to be placed in an unfamiliar environment with lots of other cats they don't know.
Bad idea Ikea!
-
Well, they were actually mostly pretty chillaxed and they did have animal handlers there and advising, so while I wouldn't necessarily let mine go along (although Dave would love that many cats to make friends with!) I think it wasn't too bad. There was a couple of bops on the head and hisses but as it was new territory to all of them there didn't appear to be too many issues as far as that went. The gap in the wall was a total oversight though.
The end advert is rather lovely and they don't sell the displayed furniture for full price if at all and a couple of hours followed by the cleaning they showed afterwards wouldn't have left behind many allergens at all. Just think of how many people interact with the furniture every day!
-
I'm conflicted. I like the ad for its concept, but I do think it was a risky thing to do to plonk so many cats in a building together.
-
call me a cynic but i didn't see 100 cats. seemed to be the same dozen or so.....
-
It turns out only a dozen of them had Union cards so the rest couldn't be shown.
:lol2:
-
I love the finished product!
100 cats in one place, that must have been a huge amount of cat hair. My 3 would have been straight to the coloured chair covers. :evillaugh:

Slightly off topic but I have just seen this advert ....
