i'm with gill.... i just dont understand them.  a big thing for me is snuggling my face into jasper's fur.  never touched or met a sphynx and not sure i ever want to!!!

sorry anyone who belongs to them..... truly no offence meant!!   :Luv:

I think they have cute faces but I'm not convinced about the no fur deal!  Although they do have a soft downy fur - bit like a peach.  It's the wrinkles I'm not too keen on (perhaps they just need a good anti ageing moisturiser  ;D ).  There were a lot of sphynx at the cat show I went to last weekend as it wash "sphynx special" day!

That first photo is great   I love the expression on the face of the little one lying in the front.

i'd never seriously have a sphynx altho i do look forward to stroking one some day (hubby can hardly bare to look at the pics of them )
but what would really put me off is a few owners ive spoken to who tell me about the dirty oily patches they leave everywhere they lie, no fur to absorb the oils etc and that why they need very regular baths. So if you though cat hair was bad imagine cat grease everywhere.

lol yes, Lynn.  I have heard they need to be wiped down regularly and are quite high maintenance in that respect.  I've often wondered whether sphynx goom themselves as often as cats with hair.

Peeps here probably know my anti-pedigree views. This is one reason. It's selective breeding taken to extremes to the detriment of the poor cat. It looks like some lab experiment gone wrong.

Give me a normal moggie anyday.

I dont like the look of these cats either. I like cats to be furry, a lot nicer to stroke. Although with the amount of fur in my house Im starting to look like a cat myself.

I think its ok to have a ped cat, if thats what the person wants, but I love my moggies, all of mine are moggies. What I do love are the ped cats that look like minature versions of big cats like somalis, burmese etc.

Hippy, I actually think that the Spynx's were a natural mutation, will dig out the cat book later and check though. I dont think they were meant to live in this country though!!

Yeh - I'm pretty sure they all originated from a hairless cat that occurred naturally.  I think the hairlessness is part of the same gene that causes the rex hair in devon rex (devons or cornish), but I could be imagining that.

its a similar gene susanne but i dont think the "rex" genes are the same.  I know the ""natural mutation"" gene that caused the laperms is different to the cornish and devon etc as it is a dominant gene unlike the others which are recessive.

I thought the sphynx was a natural mutation aswell but in general i am against "manufactured" breeds... sooooooo im ok with the laperm LOL

its a similar gene susanne but i dont think the "rex" genes are the same.

I thought I'd read somewhere that the hairlessness and the rex fur on devons were alleles on the same gene, and that hairlessness was dominant.  And that that was the reason why devons often have bald patches (unlike cornish).  but I could be totally wrong and that might all have been a dream!  Or I could have just scan read something and not taken it in properly.  I do that a lot  ;)
