I have been distracting myself by reading tales of famous cats and stumbled on this. :sneaky:
This poor soul served on not one but three WW2 warships - all of which were torpedoed. Each time Sam was found clinging to debris. Have a read and see how his character was described in journals after he was rescued for the 3rd time.

Incredible :Luv2:
I googled and found a pic :) http://www.ww2incolor.com/german/Oscar.html
I has brought to mind something awful though. Apparently there are things you can buy in the UK called ships cats. Apparently, they are made in china. From what I remember, they claim they are made from rabbit fur - but....
I saw a couple in a shop window display somewhere last week (I think it was the sewing machine shop here in Whitstable) I was so tempted to go in and have a word but they would probably just think I was mad :tired:

It just struck me on the funny bone. They described him as 'angry'. After 3 ships being shot from underneath me I'd be FURIOUS!
I have edited an article for our next newsletter about Simon, the only feline recipient of the Dickin Medal. Seems to me Unsinkable Sam should have had a medal too! :sneaky:

this was a rather cute pic, you hardly can see him
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Convoy_cat.jpg (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Convoy_cat.jpg)
Convoy was the ship's cat aboard HMS Hermione. He was so named because of the number of times he accompanied the ship on convoy escort duties. Convoy was duly listed in the ship's book and provided with a full kit, including a tiny hammock where he would sleep. He stood by his ship to the end and was lost along with 87 of his crew mates, when the Hermione was torpedoed and sunk on 16 June 1942.
Sad ending to his life

I've heard of Simon but not Sam
