Title: covcats - yet more new arrivals (aka the garage cats) RIP Squirt poor little man
Post by: Angiew on August 13, 2010, 00:27:29 AM
Well my two old girls are homeless and have no pen to go in. They are now loose in the kitten room for the latest and last emergency.

mum and 3 (possibly 4) kittens in garage - I have been putting off taking them in but was told that they were going to give one of the kittens away - not that they will have been able to catch it of course.

Mum is black and friendly and was picked up by myself and Judith. We then set up trap and I have just got back from picking up the two kittens.

They are small, thin, wet and stink of pilchards. There is an eye thing going on and I think one is snuffly so its off to vets tomorrow and more care to stop the bottle feeds from catching anything.

mum wasn't as pleased as I thought she'd be to see them

we must start rehoming some soon ..... :'(

You should have taken me along, I was expecting you to get a call tonight sometime after 10.00 when it all goes a little quieter outside.  I hope OH went along with you.

I suspect the kittens smelled of your hands and not of her as much as usual, and after all she is in a strange place herself.  I do worry that the number of cats and kittens we seem to be taking in these days seem to have come with something, whereas before, I don't recall them all being so sickly.

Anyway, well done indeed, even though you were very naughty not taking me along as body guard!  You must be  :tired:

they lok a little brighte this morning but will have a visit to vet after I've dozed and thendone 2nd beby feed.

the other 2 kittens arrived this morning. both black.

visit to vet today. poor mum has mastitis, it feels like she has 6 hard-boiled eggs under her - no wonder her first reaction was to hiss last night. she's dripping milk.

4 kittens have bad eyes and respiratory infections, green snot. one has the beginning of pneumonia.

antibiotics and eye cream for them all. the 4 little ones are all boys.

hopefully we caught them all just in time.

Little ones look a bit brighter today - at least they are clean.
They are a good size and are comfortable to be handled, though how they will feel after a week of eye treatment and un-palatable synulox will be interesting.
Mum is relaxed and has managed to knock over the bottle of synulox twice today so I had to pick up some more when I took the babies in.
She is still very hard underneath but seems more content in herself, hopefully the ab's with clear her lumps soon.

As to names, the man who found them works at RR so mum is Dawn and the four boys Cloud (little white on tum), Ghost, Shadow (the black twins) and Wraith (black and white).

Isn't it horrendous what these poor cats and kittens have to go through?  Every day there's more sad stories   :(  I can't bear to think about the one's who aren't lucky enought to be taken into a rescue.  :'(

Hope this little family will be ok Angie

Dawn's mastitis is getting better - almost all gone.
The kittens are looking good, still a little squinty and one has a nice snuffle but this is Day 5 for ab's.

Will take them back for a check up later after ab's finished.

Vets gave the kittens the all clear today.:cheer:

One of mum's nipples is still a bit doughy so she has some more ab's to take.

Pen given good clean and mum and kittens back in and fed.
Title: Re: covcats - yet more new arrivals (aka the garage cats) one at vets now
Post by: Angiew on August 21, 2010, 22:57:21 PM
well today started off well, was beginning to feel everything was slowly coming under control at last.
took mum off for an afternoon at Reading, got back at 6 to start the battening down of hatches.

Went to feed these lot and 2 were looking a bit sorry for themselves, black and white was was bubbling from nose. had a little to eat (too stressed by now to eat much) then went back up to se them and little black and white one looked even worse and was totally listless (about 30mins later).

So a quick panic and took mum and kits to vets now. B/w dehdrated and reluctant to move, has a temp. One of the black ones also has a little temp.
So £260 later, the b'w one is to stay in overnight with an IV (vet did say we could pts) and Me back at home having a right panic about them and the bottlefeeds.

Bottlefeeds rushed to Jill so that I can concentrate on these little ones.

The three don't seem to bad , just been in with them to try and syringe some cimicat but one went ff to eat (!) and him and another blackone and me had a little game of push ball around.

OK, I'm panicking. Having just lost the 3 a few weeks ago and half of me thinks the vets bigged it up to get money from us. He is talking about perhaps getting an autopsy done and suggested the RSPCA were having problems with their kittens at the moment.

I'm too tired for all this.

Post by: Angiew on August 22, 2010, 08:41:17 AM
Vets now phoned and the little black and white kitten is dead though I do wonder how hard they really tried.

others seem ok this morning though obviously not as not much food has been eaten.
Mum given ab.

The vet told me to quarter the ab tablet for each kitten today and I will do so later, giving the fourth quarter to Portia who looks ok at the moment.

oh well, can't home them kill them is my motto for the day.

Post by: madasacatter on August 22, 2010, 09:17:52 AM
Makes me wonder if the poorly one that died did have a temp, but instead was below normal readings, and was already on her way out of this life?  :(

I know how you feel Angie, so will a lot of people on here too, you feel trapped, helpless and stressed by it all.
These poor cats didn't ask to be born, which is why the spay and neuter message is so important, also vaccinations.  I think there seems to be a lot of nasty viruses out there at the moment, I don't know the cause, but it could well be due to overbreeding cats which are far too plentiful at the moment, and people take them on with less thought than choosing a box of chocolates.  Five minutes later they are bored of them.   >:(

Take care, see you later when I come to collect the crush carrier.

Sadly went in this morning and little kitten was alive but very cold and stiff so took him to the vet (never guess which one I saw )

Anyway, temp not recording so we let him go. Second kitten with me 'not too bad' and we are now going to try some bayteril (sp) as well as the synulox.

Angie you`ve done your best and little one isnt suffering any longer  hard as it is you have to keep strong because in the order of things you are most important right now because the rest of the kittens family need you, dont take any nonsense from the vet either, as soon as practical feet up and have a brew; I really know how you are feeling and wish I could make it better for us all

Well we are still fighting for kitten no. 3 now called Squirt by the vets.

Took him in yesterday morning near collapse temp low.
They kept him in all day, I collected him at 7pm and gave him a/d , cimicat and lectade (in various combinations) hourly through the night.

Back to vets at 8 am this morning and they kept him in on a drip. Temp was normal this morning so that was good. They reported that he had been eating on his own (after a fuss) and using the tray as normal.

He's still very subdued, I have just managed to get a few mls of AD in him and will try again at 11.
He's back to the vets for the day tomorrow.

Squirt is looking brighter this evening. I have put him in a small pen with food and water but will still give him food and fluids tonight. I slept all day. Squirt is going back in tomorrow for the day. he is getting a lot of attention their as they are quiet in the few days after the move. have to say all the vets at the pet vac (now 'your vet') have been very good with him this week - perhaps they are not used to dealing with rescues that actually want to save lives.....

The squirt I am certain is getting the very best of care; I am more worried about Angie, sometimes people think that rescuers have their own suit of armour that protects physically and emotionally, its not true. Take care Angie there is light at the end of your very long tunnel

Thanks for all your support for Squirt (and me!)

Squirt is back again from a day at the vets. His temp was slightly low this morning so he's still not right.
He has the wobbles on his back legs and occasional tremor which may be a result of the Parvo, which once again is the suspected cause.

Vet say he is eating fine and bright , that I should continue giving him fluids every so often and only bring him in if worried. Vet said they gave him no fluids today so aren't really doing anything (I suspect he will miss the attention). He is happily eating wet food there though doesn't seem too keen here even though he has been offered the food they provided (not to mention the turkey from Sainsbury's carvery picked up this afternoon!).

They are concerned that having picked up he seems to have reach a plateau. So they are suspicious of something else going on as well. They suggest if all is the same next week it might be worth taking some bloods.

I do look forward to having a houseful of healthy cats - a sentiment that seems very prevalent with all the rescues that visit this site!

Squirt is still doing well and is developing a nice little tummy on him. He is eating small amounts of wet and dry and I subject him to a few mls of water a few times a day.

He is still wobbly and from my readings panleuk can result in some nerve problems (ataxia). I don't know if this gets progressively worse but I suspect it seems to as they get more mobile.

If this is the case , then squirt will need a special home poor boy.

He loves his mum still and purrs like mad when i leave them together, which I do for a few minutes. She of course is more interested in play, food and fuss.

mum is well and off any meds for nearly a week. Squirt and his bro are still having synulox, though all staying the same hopefully not for much longer.

I'm going to leave him for tonight and not pop in (well if I wake up I might but I did some door-to-door neutering leaflets with Yvonne (CP) this afternoon and think I will sleep like a log - which is ironic as thats what my legs now feel like!).

squirt is lively and eating and playing well.
Hate to see him on his own though.
T, how did minimopsical cope with playing with other kittens? I know his brother would love to get his hands on him and I also don't know if to keep him in quarantine from him - I think I read they can shed for 3 weeks, and am confused whether his brother is immune or has somehow managed not to catch it.

Today is the second day they are all off meds.

Great news Angie.
Minimopsical had no trouble playing with other kittens but she was born like that.Am sure Squirt will be fine once he comes out of quarantine, couldnt tell you how long that is,as the ones I had years ago stayed isolated until they were rehomed together, all I remember is the germ can live in soft furnishings etc  for over a year.
Good Luck and Well Done on pulling this one through.

popped in to pay bill today and vet was at reception. she said that there would be little risk allowing him back with his family as they had all been exposed to the same virus.
I let them have a mad run around the room together then after an hour decided that Squirt was being pulled around too much (with much squealing) so have placed him back alone. He is very unco-ordinated but didn't let it stop him lapping the room after his brother! May be a few sessions over the next few days to build him up a bit. He certainly loved the head to tail double wash that mum gave him and there was a lot of purring going on (It didn't last when she wanted to join in the fun and then he was a tad scared of her!).

vet says vac in 2-3 weeks time to give them time to recover - the kittens must be 8 weeks old now but don't look it - especially Squirt who could pass off at 5 or 6 weeks bless.

squirt is back with us. been on fluids. he has synulox and eyecream for an ulcer. he had a temp of 40 as well so i suppose that could explain his reluctance to move much and stiffness.
he has to go back in tomorrow and I'm to give him some fluid tonight.

vet is worried that there is something viral systemically going on and that this may be the pattern of his life in that he will always be sickly and if that is the case then pts may be on the cards.
we briefly discussed interferon but she wasn't sure that it would make a difference.

any thoughts out there on what could be happening?

he is once again in a pen on his own.

Angie the only thing that I keep thinking about is the wobble, it could be a meningitis type germ, could even be toxoplasmosis like Bonny has, so easy for vet to say its due to parvo and write everything else off. Think you will end up like me spending a fortune on blood tests until you hit the right thing.
Whatever you do for Squirt will be the right thing, you know him best in this world, all I can do is offer you hope and send vibes for his recovery and tell you that we are all feeling your pain.
Take care of yourself

Angie haven't been posting 'cos up to my eyes too with kittens with "issues".  All I can say, to add to all the sensible advice so far, is just to hang on in there and not be pressurised into giving up too soon. I used to follow vets advice and pts cats/kittens I know now with a bit more time would have been just fine.  So I now force myself to take a step back and have a hard think about what is best.  My mum and 6, part of the 13 brought in on 13th, have been up and down and up and down and finally taken to the vet today with squits.  One is borderline cerebellar hypoplasia anyway and she is the worst.  Only 500gr and 7 wks old...

You will know when enough is enough, always trust your gut instinct.  It's telling you what is the right thing but it's not always easy to hear!

Really rooting for you and Squirt. x

squirt is at vets. no temp today though he's not right poor thing. hes looking a bit pale. we are going to worm him today - something i was planning to do earlier this week as he was looking so much better. glad i didn't else that would have got the blame for his relapse.
so vets will worm, give him some fluids and look after him while i go out to get shopping (cat stuff!) and i'll pick him up this evening.

also a big thank you to T, his toys arrived today, though I haven't told him yet.

Keep those vibes coming!

Squirt is still very lethargic but eating on his own.
His eyes are a worry. They put some stuff in to look at his ulcer again and he reacted to it - he was pawing his eye as I left and apparently it swelled up badly this morning so they say he has an allergy to the anaesthetic.

They are offering to take him in again tomorrow and I will so I can get on and do the jobs I didn't get round to today (not to mention a trip to the police station with my motoring documents  >:( and dropping the trap round to a fosterer who has lost one of her feral charges behind the kitchen cupboard )

I am taking Squirt to Dudley on monday with his mum and brother for the C4 program on neutering.
mum is getting neutered and as its out most of the day, I didn't want to leave Squirt from 7am until the evening - besides which I think his story is also important for a show designed to promote neutering.
I checked with the vet that they had room for them all in the surgery for the day and she tells me the practice has a CH cat and she also has one at home so I am happy he will be well looked after. I have all the notes from the vet Re the medical sage of the last 5 weeks - if I remember them  :-[

have a prescription for 125mg Famciclovir tablets for his eyes (treats human herpes) but can i find a chemist who stocks them. tried most of coventry, some in leicester, birmingham and warwick.

damn, i feel like a failure! some stock the 250mg but can't give me that unless script is changed (its for a quarter of the 125 tablet anyway).

unless any one has any bright ideas it'll have to wait now for vet tomorrow to hopefully change it and pray that the delay doesn't have any effect.

got the new script today, went to boots as they had it in and the pharmasist refused to give them to me. The drug is not licensed for vet use and apparently the vet has to mention "cascade" on the script.
I actually added the word, took it back and he still refused to let me have it.
I have then spent another 2 hours phoning around. LLoyds at solihull had it and I rushed off at 4 but couldn't find them , and by the time I had given up asking it was well gone 4-30 when they closed.
I have got back about 5 mins ago from trying other chemists at random in birmingham and none of them stocked it.

So I am tired , frustrated and angry.

Hopefully tomorrow we can try and get something sorted in Dudley - perhaps they will issue a script with the correct wording that we can then get.

I have just given Squirt a hug and apologized to him on behalf on the world.

From the ridiculous to the sublime.

Filming done. New script provided. phoned up local to me chemist to get items ordered for tomorrow and then get back 6-30 with a message saying they could not find the drug.

Admittedly, the line at Dudley Zoo (where we went to spend time between filming) was poor but I did spell out the name and they have written it starting with an S :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored:
they could find the right drug but not the made up one - hence i cannot pick it up tomorrow

must be divine intervention telling me not to get it for him. Honestly!

Squirts eye not any better and his brother now has a small ulcer on eye, so back to vet tomorrow with both of them.

This is terrible and your vet should have got it for you.

Kocka had a bad eye problem and the eye vet she saw said she needed drops that were used for humans and only place to get them was Moorfields eye hospital and they were very expensive. She got them from Moorfields and Kocka was treated as an inpatient, they didnt work as they made her too stressed but they went to another needy cat and Kocka got better by herself. These were not licenced for use on cats either.

I do hope that this can be sorted out for little Squirt.

will have to try and sort out later today so meds may be here by tomorrow.
In the meantime they have all been having some of the L Lysine that su (schmew) sent me from Biscuit's meds.

Funnily enough, the dudley vet also suggested using that so I am eternally grateful tp Su and Biscuit for having sent that to me a couple of weeks ago.

Poor little Squirt.   Typical I had quite a few of these Famvir when I owned Beau my Herpes carrying raggie.   I gave them all to his new owner and she hasn't needed them since he's had no more problems since he has been an only cat.     I do recall they were very expensice about £70 for 10.     My vet had no problem at all getting them.     I think although my branch didn't have any another one in the chain did.

Well the little sod has just (I think!) had his second dose of the famvir.

He has decided to become a tablet nightmare and succeeded in managing to cough it back up with some spit twice, I think its now in him....... >:(

He obviously does not appreciate the lengths I had to go to to get the stuff in the first place.
He is moving around well but his eye is still a nasty mess... will take him back again tomorrow to check its not getting worse, hopefully it looks worse 'cos the blood supply is healing....

so more of a present for him then?  :briggin:

Just come back from vet with Squirt as his eye looked different and I was worrying different good or different bad. But its no change. Vet said that a graft (at about £2000!) might not work as its a viral infection so we carry on as we are and hope it gets better.

Hi Tan,

Squirt went for a check up this morning and there has been little change in the ulcer. He's still on synulux, the anti-viral famvir and eyedrops and has to go back in 3- 5 days time.
I am grateful that it is not worse but wish it would START to get better.
In himself he is well and putting on weight. He is still a bit sluggish but can move when he wants and must be in some pain with the eye. They gave him an anti inflam jab today.

Been to vets again today. Eye is still bad but he is doing good. up 200g in last week to 1.3kg,
Eye has stopped weeping and is quite dry and sometimes even open (until I get near it with a tube of cream or the vet tries to have a look and see what's going on).

Next check up in a weeks time. I think its just wait and see how much scarring there is etc....

the vet who saw him today hasn't seen him for over 2 weeks and says he's a proper little man now.

Dawn (Squirts mum) went to her new home on saturday.

Juliet has decided she does not like kittens - including her own daughter Portia - and will only sleep near Romeo. Portia is still avoiding me but is booked in at the vets on friday for neutering.

Squirt had to go back to the vets today as his eye was looking red. And yes we have a little ulcer again so its back onto the ab's and ointment. The Famvir is on order at my local chemist who says it will be there tomorrow.

Squirt was weighed to get the dosing correct and even though quite smaller than his brother still weighed in at just over 2Kg.

He is not impressed at being medicated again and is proving to be a right little  :censored:
Hopefully, we will get it all under control quicker this time. He's due back in for a check up in 7 days.

His brother had his second jab today and I have told them all about the delights of ball-off day that seems to be approaching very quickly.

Another picture of the threesome.

Famvir in and first dose administered.
Had to buy the whole box of 21 tablets - £222 - they let me off the 8p. Still, suggested dose is 1/4 tablet for 8 days so thats 10 treatments (ignoring the fact he was on it for over a month last time!).

he took it down first time but they were not impressed as i think they were all expecting more turkey and were all hovering... :naughty:

his loveliness is still here with me looking for a home as are Romeo, Juliet, Midnight and Portia.

We have had no enquiries about any of them yet.
There have been no more flare ups though we have still to vaccinate and neuter at some point.

you don't get a carrier state for FIE and once vacced they should be fine -
how are his CH wobbles now he's growing stronger physically ?
Title: Re: covcats - yet more new arrivals (aka the garage cats) Squirt is doing good

He's still quite wobbily. He can run but tends to lean to one side. He has never tried the stairs and I constantly worry as he lives upstairs and I have no stairgate. He can climb on to the bed but does not jump and play like his brother. He will need an indoor home only, if he gets into trouble there is no way he could get out of it apart from being able to crawl under something.
He is good with the litter tray but sometimes lies on his side to pee, and if he panics his co-ordination gets a lot worse.

Sounds very much like Boris -he can't use a tray at all and always lies on his side -we taught him to use puppy training pads -i put some paper towel over then and use a corner of room and he is a very good boy .
Boris can't even jump on a bed but he does manage in his own fashion to do stairs -he hauls himself up and does a rather dramatic come down but after a long hard think I decided he was OK -our stairs do have a gentle bend which helps -keep his claws fairly long they need them to grip -tbh they also need to exercise their muscles as if not they can have further problems. --we do also have a low barrier we can attach to top of our stairs if needed -i had to use this with a rescue cat who was blind and semi paralysed.
Boris was a rescue who came to me at 12 weeks -his CH is probably due to oxygen deficiency rather than FIE
He is nowover 2 and lives with my other cats very happily -excitement and fear and tiredness all make the coordination worse -anaesthesia must be carefully monitored too with CH cats -
does he have head wobbles ? I find larger shaped dry food better with him and use a specially shaped high back bowl for wet so it doesn't escape !
These puddytats take a lot of time and effort to care for but they are amazing and it's truly rewarding for owner and puss.

What is his temperament like ? is he a shy cat even with you ? or is he happy at home-all CH cats seem unsure if in different circumstances and take time to adapt -routine is essential to them it seems
Boris now -click on pic for video

Squirt is quite a happy little soul and while happy to be fussed and purrs like mad does not often seek me out for it. If he wants attention he goes to Romeo and his huge purr them reverberates around the house while Romeo gives him a wash.
Romeo is still mad for attention and Midnight seems to be taking after him (I keep having to tell myself that they are not related - though I suppose there is always an outside chance!).

It is with a heavy heart and total delight that I can tell you all that I have just come back from delivering Romeo, Midnight and Squirt to their new home.
They have gone to a lovely family (more a couple with a grown up son) who are animal mad and have a dog with allergy problems a parrot with half a leg missing and various other small animals.
The poor things were a bit stressed. Romeo seemed fairly unfazed but did pant a little, Squirt was rooted to the spot on the rug and midnight hiding under the sofa as I left. Romeo has inspected the house and available laps and I am sure they will all be looked after well.
CCG will continue to pick up the vets bills relating to FIV and squirt.
The dog couldn't be bothered to get off the couch to see what all the fuss was about.  :Luv2:

I have suggested they take the boys to Ross (vets) on Wednesday to make sure that the stress of the move hasn't caused anything to kick off and for Ross to see what his new patients are like and also to discuss neutering.

Fingers crossed and all our vibes that all goes well.   :'( :'(

Sounds like they have gone to a great home and the trio stay together as well - that is great  ;D

But some of these for you Angie   Was very clear how much this "family" meant to you

Chinrubs to Juliet (and Portia if when she lets you.)

Todays Email.....
What a difference a week makes. The boys have totally settled in now, spending a majority of their time downstairs. Apart from the occasional hissing they are settling well with Lou, our dog.

I've attached a some files with some pictures for you to see. One nice aspect of the cats being down stairs is that Squirt is becoming ever active trying to follow and go with the others when he feels the need to. As well as a major appetite he has gained stair skills and goes up and down the stairs under his own volition, and in his own time and unique style.

They are very relaxed and at home with us. What a fuss ball Romeo is but he is so nosey. Anywhere he hasn't been he wants to get into. Midnight is constant activity and play while Squirt is content to just be cuddled or left somewhere comfy and loudly purr.

The boys owners are keeping in touch with me which is nice of them.
Squirt became poorly over the weekend and went to the vets on monday. He was given a not too bad bill of health and some antibiotics.
He's not rallied yet and I have reminded them all about the Famvir.

He ate some salmon today so fingers crossed that this is the start of the return.....

email from Rick and Angie today -

....Now to Squirt.
The mucus is almost non-existent now and his eyes are far brighter and clearer. We've turned the corner. Now all we need is for him to start eating on his own accord. Apart from that problem with the associated weakness and inability to get about at will, he is far different from the cat of just three days ago. He is very aware of everything around him and lays in Angie's arms at night in from of the TV.

All that's needed now is for him to start eating.

 :yesss:

things are looking bad - the following email arrived today....

Well Ross has him now. I took him in about 10.30 this morning. He's no change I'm afraid. Had a little lapped water but we had to hold him to do this. Plus about 3ml of water from a syringe. No medication or food, so the vets work without restrictions. He limp and unresponsive, apart from his head and eyes. It's all down to total weakness and I'm beginning to think the fights gone out of him so he needs specialist medical assistance to rehydrate and fire up his metabolism.

Even with the water bottle he remains cold to the touch, his core temperature is low. Which is worrying.

In all honesty we fear for the worst now. It's all reliant on the treatment the vets can administer, drips, drugs etc.

As you can read by the change in title, the miracle did not happen and Squirt died at the vets this afternoon.

Rick and Angie, Squirts new carers and myself are heart broken as I am sure some of you will be reading this.

The poor little man had had enough. Such a cruel world.

He is now reunited with his other two little mates that didn't make it.

God bless him and all the other little ones that we lose in this way.

Remember Our Love

I was chosen today
I'm learning to fly
the world took me away,
but please don't you cry

And I chose you today
to try and be strong
so please don't you cry
and don't say that I'm gone

When you're feeling alone
just remember our love,
I'm up near the stars
looking down from above.

Remember our love
In a moment you'll see
that I'm still here beside you
when you're thinking of me.

Angie, Rick and Angie, so sorry to hear this sad news.  :(  After you spoke to me this morning, I have been worrying how he was doing all day.  I kept busy, cleaned the chickens out, litter trays, washing etcetera.  :scared:

I know that a lot of people, you especially, really tried for that kitten, not just for a few days, but for many months.

When we picked them up they had been through it in that dingy, dirty, damp and draughty garage, so not exactly a great start to their lives to say the least.  :'(

We are not miracle workers, neither sadly were his vets, and a long life was not to be for that little man.  He was given the best chance to recover, more than a lot of cats would have been lucky enough to have.  Not every kitten is lucky enough to have been picked up and taken into a safe haven and treated kindly for as long as he needed.

Take it easy, with all our love from you know where!

Email from Rick and Angie

Hi Angie.

My wife phoned me this afternoon to tell me the dreadful news, she was inconsolable with his loss. Giving him big cuddles before I took him to the vet. I wish I'd left him at home, to go his way with his family. But then if he'd have died at home, the guilt of not taking him to the vet would have weighed heavily. You can't do right for wrong it seems in these situations.

Still. This is a message I've dreading having to write, but it's been more and more ominous in it's coming over the past few fraught days.

'Little Un' Squirt is no longer part of our daily life family routine and we miss him massively. He was a little cat which huge heart and the fight regime of a boxer, but his dwindling reserves finally ran empty, no matter how much love and empathy we gave.

We feel so bad that he gone. Guilt is racking us which is silly, we know, because we did everything we could have medically, lovingly and supportingly to bring him back after that infection wreaked havoc with his system. Round the clock care and feeding, plus intensive affection and cuddles didn't have any effect. The little guy just didn't have anything left in him.

It was Footsie all over again, with dwindling appetite and a desire to have nothing to do with food, totally shunning it. Feeding with the syringe upset and stressed him but it was for the best reason.

I took a picture of him last night before we took him to bed. He's wrapped up in his own little bed set up on the rug. Lost amongst the comfort. I'll forward it on to you at an easier time. I've just looked through the whole catalogue we've taken and I wish I hadn't now.
I'll leave it there for now.

I'm going to the vets tomorrow to pick up the carrier and his blankets and hopefully talk to Ross. I'm dreading picking up the stuff. Ross has said he's talk to you about Squirt if you want.

Midnight has to be mentioned too. He's totally without effect by the operation. Both Midnight and Romeo are at my shoulder as I write. Romeo doing the clean up of Midnights head and face.

In some way they are a magic comforter for us all. When I cuddled Midnight tonight he smelt of perfume. Angie had been cuddling him to console herself, she loves them all like all of us but had a very big part of her motherly instincts set aside solely for him.

So, so sorry.
Rick and Angie.
