Title: Just had to rush Domino to Vets
Post by: Ellen2010 on August 11, 2010, 20:28:17 PM
Hi

I have just has to rush my baby of the Cats back to the Vets as he started to pass blood which was bright red in his urine.  They have kept him in   :(  I know this is the best thing for him but it still feels strange without him here.

basically they have admitted him to put him on a drip to make sure he is getting fluids so his kidneys keep working but his bladder is intact.  He let out a yowl 48 hours ago but seemed fine and decided yesterday he was not eating so was at the vets first thing this morning.  The vet is hoping he will be back home tomorrow but also knows that I would rather have him home well and eating.  So if he needs to be in for a couple of days to get him back right then that is what will happen with him.  Have him treated and worry about the money cost later but my vets are pretty good as they know I don't call out of hours unless it is something drastic

Domino is now catheterised as he was unable to wee, is on pain killers, antibiotics and a drip.  The vets admitting him last night more than likely stopped his bladder from bursting.  Just to think they were wanting me to leave him until 9am this morning and then take him in or to his appointment time.

Thank heaven that I insisted that he be seen last night.

Have been told this afternoon that his kidney readings are up so prepare myself for the fact he may have suffered permanent kidney damage.  Poor lad is not even 2 and half years old yet.  Have to phone in the morning to arrange a time to go and see him as he will be in for the weekend.

He seems to have turned a corner for the better  ;D He has had his catheter removed and his bloods have been tested again and he is urinating on his own and kidney functions are all within range.  Will let you all know later how he is doing in himself as I am going to see him this afternoon  :briggin: Just wish he was coming home with me today but he will not be allowed home for at least 24 hours from having the catheter removed so may even have to stay in for the weekend  :'(

Just got back from the vets and I have to phone in the morning to see if he is allowed home tomorrow.  All being well the vet came while I was there and recognised me and just said if you are happy he can come home now but he has not had the catheter removed for 24 hours so you may have to rush him back if he stops urinating in the next 24 hours.

So as much as it saddened me decided to phone tomorrow just to be on the safe side.  Bearing in mind he still had the drip in his leg and was on pain killers and antibiotics which are being administered through a canula on his leg lol.

Domino is home minus the blanket that was in the pet carrier when he went in and there will be one hell of a stink if the vets have not found it by Wednesday when he goes back.

He is getting there am sure they never fed him though when he came home as two sachets of cat food was gone as quick as they were put down for him.  At the moment he has a slight problem of leaking whilst he is asleep and not being aware of it.  He is loving his cuddles and is getting back to his mischievous ways.  Have had to strip the bed and wash the quilt as while he was asleep last night he leaked and soaked it but hey it can be washed.

Poor Domino :(  Hope he's back to normal soon but at least you caught him before there was permanent damage.

For the leaking, I can highly recommend going to a cheap hardware store and getting a tarpaulin big enough to cover the bed then putting an old quilt over it so he sleep on the quilt and the tarp catches any leaks.  I've been doing that for years as we have an incontinent cat, and it works well.

  for Domino.  xx

luckily I only have the summer quilt on so can fit that in the washer no problem and have a tumble drier so it is easily dried, am just hoping it sorts itself out eventually and he does not forget to wake up and go to the litter tray have even placed him one in the bedroom for on the night time lol

Ellen, its quite common for them to leak a bit after this procedure, I'm sure it won't be long before he's back to normal.
