Title: Baby Charlie - the Clans latest dumped child!
Post by: Liz on August 05, 2010, 20:17:03 PM
I have very kindly asked Rosella to post a couple of pictures of our newest recruit baby Charlie who will of course be staying with the Clan!
Charlie was placed in to a trap at our road end according to the nice man building the stables across the road from our track end
The vets reckon he is about 8 weeks old and very sadly he will be having an operation to remove his babdly broke hind leg = we have of course explored all avenues - well I have and cost is not the issue but vets say looking at his xrays that there is little or no chance of anything being done with his leg and they even sent the xrays to our old vets for a second opinion!
Charlie is in no pain from the leg and is currently helping his Daddy mop the dining room floor = he loves to slide! He is a happy soul and most of the Clan aren't bothered at all by him his feral Uncles Ace, Blue, Sammy, Harper and Riley are all helping look after him and are so good for hulking big ex tom cats!
Picces should be on at some point and thanks in advance to Rosella! ;D

Liz if you look closely at the picture of the kitten on my signature banner you will notice she only has 3 legs, she was just under 6 weeks old when it was amputated and yet she was up and about the same evening. I`m sure Charlie will come on in leaps and bounds.

He will be like his big brother maverick a 3 legged hooligan!
3 or 4 paws doesn't matter here at the Clan he is just a happy little soul and so glad he was dumped here and he is my extra special pressie and he is a total sweetheart but does run like hell when its bedtime as he doesn't want to be in his kitten pen - only till worming is over then he is coming to bed with his Mum and Dad and a bowl or to of food - its a long way down stairs ;D

Well having spent a nearly a week with Charlie OH thinks he needs a playmate - the clan cats are being very good but even my lightest ones are way to big and Sunny collie is obseesed by him and he weighs 27kgs so we think someon his own size would be best especially when the op comes along - it won't be for a while unless the leg is causing to much aggro and to date its not but we are keeping a close watcj that he doesn't split the hock he is using to run on - and he is quick!

Well an update on Baby Charlie or his new name Chuckie Cheese
He is off for more xrays on Monday as he has started to put the paw down and use it but he is still on Metacam every other day or he limps - we have encouraged him with an awful lot of new toys and he loves his turbo track from the Purrs shop and all the other things with balls in as he has to use his leg to stand on when chasing so we re hpoing that further down the line we can perhaps fuse the bones in one of his joints to keep the leg as sadly it is going in 2 different directions from his hip and knee joint but its not stopping him - he has now mastered getting on the kitchen chairs and table and discovered cat milk yesterday ;D
I will be taking some mkre photo's at the weekend of Baby Charlie, Charles, Chuckie Cheese the Clan cats youngest member

Baby Charlie after consultation with the vet Charlie - yup kitten named after vet will be keeping his leg
The xrays showed that someone had swung him round by the hind legs and dislocated and broken lots of small bones but sue to the Clan magic - we let him be a kitten hooligan has helped and the bones are joining back together them selves so apart from a limp so far so good and the leg is staying and so is the metacam every other day till his boy bit op then we will review more xrays - cheapest vets bill so far this month having been 5 times

The Clan is a rather large bunch of cats ranging from Sweetie the leader and my only original lady aged 18 years and 7 months who was diagnosed as diabetic 2 weeks ago - our second diabetic after our Tiger our former feral alpha male who died 18 months ago, down to baby Charlie at 12 weeks
The Clan is made up of mainly ferals and the ones that no normal family would have - in fact when we moved here 4 years ago with our then 37 we even bought our feral colony as no one could feed them - the ones left are now house cats!
The Clan also have a rescue Ragdoll with an awful lot of issues but she is the only way I would ever have had a pedigree cat - she was dumped at my OH's work in a box with the parting words if you don't take her we will kill her so she came in at number 18!
The Clan cats also have their own pets my 2 wonderful cat savy Border collies Astra Zephyr Sky known as Sky aged 3 who is black and white and and Ravenhill Blazing Sunshine known as Sunny or Sunny Bunnikins  my red and white collie boy who is 22 months old. Both bought is as puppies and trained by the cats as to what they are allowed to do and both adored by all the feral cats who share their beds and crates in the evening
I run a 2 fold system my indoor/outdoor crew, my indoor only and my outdoor only - I also have a foster from Sunny Harbour Miss Skye in the one of the guest bedrooms and en suites
The cats are all in at night and thats when they all mix as one big furry family - and thats an awful lot of fur!!!!!
Some folks have visited us and can't get over the way they are to us its normal we work hard to keep them to the manner they are re accustomed to and somebody did comment to my OH that it was a bit much me getting and new Ford Kuga in panther black as we have a Cougar and a Panther and I love my multicoloured family but my heart belongs to Sweetie the leader of the Clan Cats she is my soul cat :Luv2:

Looking after them including litter trays and feeding 3 times a day takes about 2 hours as I am on such a well trained routine
They all have their parent time and Sweetie as befits her status sleeps on the couch on her 2 different beds and yes I sometimes feed her there to but she is now getting up for food so vets think she is now stabilising on the diabetic insulin so we are pleased for that just got to get the test results back somehow I keep putting off phoning so I don't get bad news!
I have my nocturnal kids and they are the easiest of all as they aren't keen on us humans but all still get Mother sticking her head in to hidey holes and saying hello
We currently have an extra couple of fosters - last years feral kittens that some idiot "couldn't" tame down so they have come to see what our feral finishing school can do for them - got their vet books today and she hadn't even named them in one year :censored: They are a ginger and white boy called McKenzie and another Brindle tortie called Gypsy - we now have 3 brindle torties - Xian, Beijing and Gypsy and our calico Amber - only Beijing is a domestic and Amber is her Daddies stalkie tortie and only tolerates me!
