I've been a little quiet these past few weeks but with all the forgiving and forgetting and shiny newness going on I'm going to post something nice and cheery (apart from the sad bits).
I have a new cat!
My beautiful boy, Josh died suddenly back in May and we were torn to pieces by it. Even the Corporal wasn't himself and it's taken a long time to get him back to some sort of normal. And then we go and bring in a new recruit.
Saved from a life in a cage making kittens, this beautiful boy has "had a hand raised to him more than once" believes my vet. We think he was scruffed as you can't get too near his neck without him running away but apart from that he's slowly coming round.
Please, your warmest of welcomes for.........
Lord Chester Red Bear! *applause*

Interestingly...
I was lucky enough to have got him from a fabulous and very understanding rescue. They let me foster him for two weeks before formally adopting him. He was packed off to mine with a pack of Zylkene and a lot of advice.
We kept him in the spare room for a few days to get used to his surroundings and then gradually swapped scents before allowing the two cats to meet. We've had a fair few shouting matches and boxing but no "real" fighting. The noises they make are awful though and it's been a very testing time!
We found that Felifriend is ace and I highly reccommend it for cats who aren't used to being lovingly handled.
Now things are settling down but Smokey has stopped being naughty and kind of turned into a quiet, loving cat. I feel kind of guilty about that and I want to see him misbehaving again. My best example of that is he used to come and jump up and down on me and stick his tail in my face to make me sneeze/wake up/feed him in the mornng but now he sits on the windowledge watching the birds whilst Chester does the shouting. I've ordered some Feliway in the hope that it'll make him comfortable enough to go back to naughtiness but I have a feeling this is the new Smokey.
Another schoolgirl error I made was spoiling him with yummy food and treats. He's had the occasional less-than-solid poop for some time now so we're back to Sensible 33
Pictures soon and I'll add some of Mr Smokey too :Luv:
eta: since you're here Gillian (or other persian experts) I'm having trouble finding treats for Smokey as he seems to have trouble picking them up with his flat face (and he doesn't really make an effort). Any tips? I'll be trying Dreamies soon but I'm not sure he'll even go for them! He was on a fairly strict sensitive diet for ages due to a runny bum so now he just doesn't seem that bothered and I'd like to spoil him too
-
A warm welcome to Lord Chester Red Bear :Luv2: may you have many happy years of being spoilt and getting your own way  You have fallen on your paws there my lad ;D
Hope the Corporal gets back to his naughty ways very soon. I'm sure he will once he gets used to things.
Lord Chester is yummy :Luv2: :Luv2:

I think you might find this is just a temporary change as he adjusts to the 'interloper' :)
With regard to treats mine seem to manage to pick up pieces of Webbox treat sticks fairly well, they love 'em too, good for hand feeding too, cept you have to watch your fingers LOL! - oh, and also good for shoving pills in if ever needed ;) Thrive chicken treats are also easy for them to pick up - and might be good for Smokey, as they are just freeze dried chicken and no additives/cereals etc. :)

id not seen them till they were mentioned on purrs, theyre the only treat as popular as natures menu here, possibly more so even as given whole theyre a tasty toy, lucifer will happily spent half an hour killing his weebox stick before hell decide its thoroughly dead and eat it!
