Title: Soap has got a poorly foot again...
Post by: Steff - Petsearch Bedford HQ on July 25, 2010, 14:29:12 PM
But this time its the other foot! I spoke to vet on Friday, he saw Soap last time and was reluctant to just give her anti b's again because of it being the other foot. He wants to check it isn't something systemic. I'm not sure if they will need to do blood tests or any other tests or if they will just examine her foot more thoroughly :S

Its in between her pads - red and swollen and then gets infected the more she licks it. I've put the collar back on her but its a softee one and she just pushes it back. Been trying to clean the area with the hibiscrub (diluted) which they gave me last time but her foot is so sore she won't let me touch it unless OH is holding her firmly. Just wish she would stop licking it. Her poor paw is getting swollen again now too :( It hasn't stopped her running around like crazy and being naughty though!!!

We are going to the vets on Tuesday.

Poor Soap  :ahh:

Could it be some kind of fungal thing - like  athletes paw?

Possibly, although I thought fungal conditions were highly contagious and luckily B & M are fine. The VN did mention inbetween her poors getting sweaty in this heat and her over grooming causing the irritation and swelling. It really is a mystery. She doesn't go outside and I haven't used anything in the house that could cause irritation.

Just hope the vet can get to the bottom of it on Tuesday.

Poor Soap!  :(

I wonder whether it could be like a sort of eczema type thing because that could be in different areas of the same cat but not contagious

Might be worth asking the vets about harvest mites, am sure someone on CC said they can affect their feet.

I will mention harvest mites as well when I'm there. Just hope they can get her sorted and its not going to be an ongoing problem for her.

We're back...

No foreign bodies, no parasites, not fungal but could be a type of dermatitis (sp) although its normally on the pads and Soaps sore bits are in between her pads. So still a bit of a mystery really! Got the same treatment as before (metacam, synolux, hibiscrub and buster collar). Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again!

If it does then they will go down the dermatitis route which would mean steroids and they didn't want to just put her on those.

Fingers crossed she is just getting "sweaty toe jam" (yuck) and overgrooming...
