Title: The mane event - winter coat in summer?
Post by: Susanne (urbantigers) on July 21, 2010, 12:58:50 PM
I always thought that cats grew a longer, thicker coat in winter.   As my boys are indoor cats, I've never noticed a significant difference which I attribute to the central heating being on in winter, although I was without central heating for a while during the recent winter (but not without heat).  However, I've noticed lately that Mosi has a very impressive ruff at the moment and his fur is full and lush.  Like a winter coat, basically!  More so than in winter.  Is it down to central heating?  Obviously I've not got central heating on at the moment and haven't for several weeks.   Is the lack of central heating responsible despite it being so warm?  Wish I'd had my camera handy as he looked lilke a real little lion with his red mane  ;D

Have to say Pepsi is looking rather fluffy too at the moment, but it is quite warm in the house now and it was quite chilly over winter so not sure why that is! I was thinking that the other day and wondering if I should take her to the groomers for a bit of a trim

It's odd isn't it?  Mosi is definitely in full bloom.

Her fur does feel lovely and soft at the moment too which is odd because I haven't changed her diet or anything recently. Her hair seems finer and softer, but fuller and bushier  :)

Mine are the odd ones out as they are all in summer coats.

Hmm, it's not universal then!

I did wonder if it was Mosi's age.  Somalis take 3-4 years to mature properly and Mosi is 4 1/2 so I wondered whether he was only now getting his full adult coat with a noticeable mane.  Whatever the reason, he's looking particularly handsome!   I never notice any difference in Jaffa's coat.
