Hi Guys,
I am a member of this site and also petforums aswell and am trying to decide whether to leave my insurance with Petguard and up my cover from 3.5k to 7.5k or to switch to AXA.
I have heard only good things about Petguard - what I want to know is IF you are insued with either of these 2 - what has been your experience with them - good or bad?
Thanks ;)

Insured with AXA and have only got good things to say about them. I've only claimed once with them but it was for a largish amount (£700). They paid my vet immediately. Of the 2 policies I have with them, 1 went up and 1 went down but I'm no worse off financially than I was last year. I had a query about something one time so phoned them up (I always hate phoning up companies) I got through to an actual person straight away and they managed to answer my question straight away.
I have to say that I've never heard of Petguard before and as such haven't heard anything about them before, but I've only ever encountered positives about AXA.
I would never hesitate to recommend AXA. In my experience they are exceptionally good and brilliant value for money. My policies are not expensive In 2008 it was £99 for my male cat and this years renewal was £77 (per year of course)

I just handed in 2nd claim for Freddie today. Last one took about 10 days to come through with no hassle. Other claims have usually been settled within same sort of time frame. Usually depends on what day I hand in to vet as they process all claims once a week. I had Tommie RIP insured with Axa. Premium ended up at about £180 in his final year (2008) but he was almost 19. I certainly claimed back a lot more in his final 2 years than we paid in premiums. Axa are good.
I just applied for a quote for Noni and Petguard is a lot more expensive than Axa when comparing like with like. Just under £6 p/mth with Axa compared to just under £10 with Petguard. It seems the excess with Petguard is £60 compared to £75 for new Axa policies but of course Noni is on an old Axa policy with £50 excess. What I find very odd is that Petguard is part of JLT online and my direct debits for Axa cover shows as "JLT Corporate Risks" on bank statements. :shify:
ETA I see from your other thread that you obtained a quote from Axa with an excess of £50. Sorry I thought the excess had gone up to £75 with new Axa policies. Happy to hear it hasn't :)

AXA all the way for me, have four with them, two arre 17yr old pedigrees and have found them very good

online you can pick if you want 50-75 excess - it gives you the choice I believe :-)
Its funny as on petforums alot of people seem a little against AXA saying they have 'heard' things but here almost everyone is insured with them.
;)

YEs, it gives you the choice between £50 and £100 - do PEtguard change their excess when your cat gets to a certain age?
-
Im not sure of that - I need to ask this - I have a feeling that the contribution does go up...

I just telephoned Petguard. Nice and helpful but not appropriate for me.
Whilst they will carry on insuring a cat already on their books after age 10, they will not cover cats older than 10 years from day 1. Axa do not have an age limit.
Also excess increases to the higher of £60 or 15% of claim on reaching 8 years old. Axa's excess does not increase with age although I do wonder how long this will last :shify:
Am a bit surprised that peeps are a little against Axa on other pet forums and hope they are not going downhill. Whilst I'm sure they have room for improvement on some of their paperwork, I think they offer good value for money on the policies we have. In fact I've been dithering over cancelling our policies for ages as we've been building up a "cat fund" but so far think the peace of mind we get for what we pay is still worthwhile. Certainly Freddie's will continue with his marginally dodgy blood results :scared:

I can only speak highly of Axa, they were great with all the ongoing claims, and paid my vets directly which helped hugely. They also paid for his cremation etc which I really was not expecting.
I've checked and our excess with Poot is still at £50, not £75 as I thought.

That's good to know R, shame we dont have another insurance company willing to take on oldies though.
