I have an open bottle of Metacam (been open much too long to use) and a few other bits. I will ask my vet if they can dispose of them. I asked my old vet once and they wanted to charge me. I hate the idea of just putting them in the bin - but...

You can ask your regular pharmacy; our local pharmacy has a program for taking in old and expired meds, so they are disposed of safely. I can't see that animal meds would be any different.
Meds should never be flushed or put down drain, as they enter the water system and that can be dangerous. I don't put them in bin either, since you don't know if bag will break open somewhere along the way and the meds can possibly enter the water table.

Give to a human pharmacy or put in an envelope and post through the vets door with a note saying expired meds, dont most leaflets say return unused medication to your vet anyway! They will have big yellow bins for drug waste so cant see it being a prob, fancy trying to charge you for it!

If there is no other option I will will bin them them. I don't want to, as has been said, just one possibility is them ending up in the water table - they could even end up being eaten by birds etc. There is already enough damage done to fish & other wildlife from consuming oestrogen meds in the water.
