Haggis is just 16 weeks old and after one or two short visits outside he had his first proper walk in the woods the other day. He AMAZED me by firstly sitting in the back of our campervan with his seat belt on , like nothing was happening and then walking around the woods with very little encouragement and with his tail up like an old hand. I cant believe how adaptable he is . Is this extraordinary or do lots of kittens take to it as easily as he has. NFC's are amazing !!!!

( this was a very brave post as it is a most unflattering video of me, but he was such a star I had to post it !!! )
Tonight I got his jacket out, called his name and he came running to go out for another adventure :evillaugh:

As for it being normal to accept it so readily, I bought harnesses for the boys when they were kittens and it resulted in either a) flattening themselves to the ground and refusing to move or b) flailing around trying to get it off!
My only concern (and I'm a worrier when it comes to my cats) would be walking him in such an open/public place and the danger of dogs being off the lead.

the good thing about where we walk is its elevated and we can scan the path in all directions for quite a distance and would see anything coming in plenty of time . The path criss-crosses up and down and there is a good view all around . There was no one around at all that day so we knew he'd be safe. He'll soon be a BIG cat and it'll be the dogs that'll have to worry :boxer:

When Baldrick was a kitten, the vet said he'd have to be an indoor cat. He had other plans so I got him a harness. He would walk quite happily on it - also run flat out, dash into next door's garden, tangle me in the fence then sit and strangle himself. The final straw was when he climbed a tree in his harness, with extendible lead on it - and me holding the lead. I gave up with trying to walk him on a harness after that :rofl:
Incidentally a few weeks later he fell out of the top of the same tree, so perhaps I should have kept the harness on him after all :censored: I caught him before he landed, luckily, but I was very glad when that tree was chopped down by the council (it won't be very often you'll hear me say I'm glad to be rid of a tree!).

I tell you he must have got all the good behaviour from the three, Luna likes hanging off 'Chelle's lampshade and she keeps pouncing on Nova and Mia :evillaugh:
She doesn't like her harness at all but maybe i'll have to get one of the ones you have!

Aw, he looks like he is loving it.
I would love to take mine out for a walk but there are far too many dogs down here for me to do it - love that jacket though so might look into getting a couple and maybe I could take them round my parent's garden.

I took my cat Kocka out on aq harness when we went to devon on holiday, 7 months before she passed to the Bridge and she loved it. However as I couldnt walk very fast she had me over more than once when she started to run lol and also we , ummmmm me got tangled up when she went round and round bushes,,,,,,,sigh
We also we nt walking in service stations on way back and people were doing a double take when they realized it was a cat not a small dog LOL
I think its really depends on the temperament of the cat and ability of owner to run :rofl:

Iv just got Txika a mynwood jacket, i dont want her going out yet but my dad is pressuring so hoping he will compromise. :tired:

haggis looks as though he is having a wonderful time. Wish we had somewhere like that I could take Kalle and Kyrre out. They went out in their jackets today [purple and blue respectively] and were quite happy to visiting the neighbours and a few trips around the garden. They seemed quite happy to wear them [only second time they had them on]. OH took some pcitures so will try and put them up later.

Haggis looks extremely happy, we have a 9 month old birman Nero and he walks on a lead as well. We took him to the beach a few days ago for the first time, he slept for almost the whole day. His jacket comes from mynwood as well- does anyone know how I downsize my photos to fit attachment?

Do a search for Irfanview and there is an excellent freebie.............then go into image, change pixels on longest side to 650 and then save as from file and post ;D

I have a red jacket with matching lead for my Persian. It's great fun to watch the expressions of people's faces when they see the big fluffy pet on the end of the lead is a cat lol! She sits by the back door ready to go out but I keep her away from traffic and let her walk in the woods close to the house picking her up if a dog comes our way.

I have two elderly birmans Franta a seal point and Ducha a blue point, Duchas fur is very light like Nero but Frantas id much darker except for his bib.
Does Nero have the birman yowl :rofl:

thanks, the boy likes to chirp, what is a YOW? I have another who is a female almost 5 and they are very different in their character. When I walk Nero around the courtyard, Saffy who isn't on a lead follows us around and watches out for him, though he is very able to defend himself as we saw a couple of weeks back when he had no problem walking up to another cat and holding his ground. It was funny to watch the little man still a kitten, tower over this cat who is 2x the size of him.

saffy is lovely and although my two are litter bros, they also very different characters and when they first came hear , Ducha used to attack my huge Moggies if he thought that they had hurt Frantas feelings.
A yowl is a birman howl lol, raucus and extremely loud :rofl:

WOW :Crazy: im amazed at this....do you thinkit would be wrth me having a go with my two girls? they are 6 months old now, they have had their innoculations, they are spayed and fit and well. they are absolutely desperate to go outside but hubby wont have it and i would simply die if anything happened to them....
This could be the answer but would it frightene them? i dont want it to cause stress....but staying indoors is not much fun either!....
what shouldi do?

Purdy theres one thing that can happen and that is you end up with cats wanting more freedom than they can have, from your post i assume its not safe for them to be free? Thats the thing id consider before doing it, they can be quite happy having restricted time out but its not always text book

. Haggis has one of those car seat belt things, the same as the one in the pic. He wasnt delighted about it at first , however he preffered it to being in a box :) :grrrrrr:
and each time we go out it gets easier. The key is to keep doing it if its something you want to be part of their life. After a very short time he has stopped squeaking altogether when we are out in the van and comes running to have the jacket on.
He roams freely in our campervan when we are parked and feels quite at home , so he enjoys the ride cause he knows we are probably going for a nice walk in the woods :heeee heeee:
