Title: Rescues in Ireland? 2 pregnant cats needing help!
Post by: wharfevalley catsprotection on April 27, 2010, 10:21:11 AM
Hey - just looking for some advice...

A friend from another forum has 2 cats that visit her regularly but she thinks that they're owned as they have had collars on them before. She now thinks that they are both showing signs of pregancy. She's very reluctant to get involved and of course the RSPCA have told her to shut the door on them. She doesn't want to deal with kittens and yet I think is being a bit naive thinking the situation will disappear.

I've told her that we should at least get a local rescue to come and assess the situation otherwise all that will happen is that she'll be over run by a feral colony in a while which will be even worse to sort out.

I'm unsure whether CP has a prescence there of if anyone has any numbers to give her.

I'm reluctnant to get involved also as she's not really a friend, just an aquaintance and hasn't listened to me before about getting these cats checked out...

The situation won't disappear and rightly so will get out of hand if not sorted.  It sounds as though the cats may have been left if they have previously had collars.  I have no idea myself of anything in Ireland, I don'tknow whether they have CP or equivalent over there, maybe we have some members from there who will know - hopefully.  I'll see if I can find any info.

eta: there's the ISPCA, and this link of rescues in Ireland from Cat chat:  http://www.catchat.org/adoption/ireland.html  - there's lists of Cat Protections in Ireland.

I would tell her to contact the rescues listed.

Thanks Janey - abandonment is exactly what I thought. It's doesn't help that a vet has replied on the thread that 'cats are very good at giving brith, I wouldn't worry' - ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm finding out where she lives and going to pass on details and stress the importance of doing so but apart from that, there's not much I can do from this far away. I have to just accept that there are people who don't care what happens and just hope I can get a local resuce involved somehow to at least give advice.

I do understand what a stress it must be to have to deal with this, but to close your eyes to it is ridiculous!

Yep, it will be much more stressful for her if the situation gets out of hand, there are a couple of Cat Protections on the links, depending on her area.

You need to find out where she is in Ireland, I may be able to point you in the right direction, as I have contact with a couple of forums over there.  ;)
