Title: HELP my kitten lost a tooth (too young!!)
Post by: Tintail on April 25, 2010, 22:08:26 PM
Hi gals!!
We found a kitten 10 days ago, the vet said he is about 6 weeks old.
This week (week 7) his eyes started slowly changing color and today I noticed one of his lower fangs is missing!!
There is not doubt in my mind he is a very young kitten, I would say 8 weeks instead of 7 as teh vet said but is it normal to loose baby teeth so soon?
Do you think he maybe had an accident or something? I heard him squeal/cry this morning and I ran into the room and my 4 year old had kind of carried him in a funky way so I thought he was just scared, now I am wondering if they were playing tug and the tooth got caught and pulled...
I am going a little crazy here... I thought they change teeth at 4.5 months, there is NO WAY he is that old, his eyes were baby blue 10 days ago (they are still blue but another hue this week).
Please help,
Thanks!!!!
Tina

Kittens lose their teeth at around 3 months old.

It's maybe a tiny bit early but nothing too drastic. How's the little guy in himself?

Hi gals,
Thanks!

Sam, there is NO way he is 3 months old...he is the size of my palm on one hand and he hasn't even grown the rest of his teeth yet!!!
I looked better and there seems to be a tiny bit of tooth at the root so I am thinking maybe the tooth got caught in the carpet or his toy and snapped.

Otherwise he is fine...a furball of energy ;)
He is going for his first shot end of the month :)

If theres some tooth left maybe an earlier check up would be advisable. Wouldnt want him to get an infection.

I have an appointment in two days, so far it looks ok, no redness or inflammation. I will go have him checked out :)

Definitely a check up if there appears to be the root of the tooth still there. Let us know how you get on at the visit. ;)
