Title: Rescue space/home needed for Staffy male - Surrey - SORTED (RIP)
Post by: JackSpratt on April 14, 2010, 21:37:36 PM
Rescue space needed urgently for a Staffie currently in a very bad home. Owner was witnessed beating the dog to the point that the police were called and she was cautioned. They have now given her 7 days to find the dog a home otherwise they will take it to Battersea. He is approx 2 years old...but that is all the info I have. Please PM me if you can help and I'll pass on your details. Roundshaw, Surrey area.

Hi JS

Believe Roundshaw is around the Sutton area of surrey.

A couple of rescues spring to mind and may be responsive to this dog's plight:

Croydon Animal Samaritans, they rescue dogs as well as cats and other animals.

Rescue Remedies:
http://www.rescueremedies.co.uk/

Only local ones that I can think of that take dogs in - would it be worth sending them details of this dog (if they don't already know about her)

Is there a problem with it going to Battersea?

Roundshaw is hell on earth... or was when I knew it.

Something not right about this story. Who are 'they' who are threatening to remove the dog in 7 days time? Can't be the Police because they would just call in the RSPCA inspector. Either she's a danger to the dog or not. You can do a lot of damage to a dog in 7 days. :shify:

Is there a problem with it going to Battersea?

Taken directly from the OPs thread:

Battersea will probably pts as they are already full with Staffies and this is a handover, therefore does not need to do the 7 days. Trying to keep him out of Battersea.

Julie, have asked. Edd, thanks but the OP is in touch with both those rescues, so it's likely the info will already have reached them.

Battersea is incredibly full - not long ago they had to close their doors for the first time ever because they had no space to take any more. I'm sure they can take 600 dogs. Over 90% of the dogs are Staffies or Staffie types. Staffies are reallllly hard dogs to rehome as not many people want one. It won't be in this dogs best interest to go there, he stands more chance of being rehomed quicker in a smaller rescue where he's less likely of being overlooked and can get more individual attention.

OK, RR full to bursting and CAS are more cat orientated so very unlikely to take an un-assessed staffy, I'm informed.

And Julie, the police gave the seven day rule as they're keeping a watch on the situation. I've never heard of that happening before.

I really don't think Battersea PTS due to lack of space. I've never heard of them doing that. Ever! Close their doors maybe...  :innocent:

I know you're going on what you've been told, JS, but it makes no sense. It's against any kind of procedure I've ever seen. The Police don't give a  :censored: about animal welfare and haven't even got enough manpower to catch murderers and muggers let alone worry about dogs. They'd just call the RSPCA and tell them to deal with it.  :tired:

I firmly believe a lot of UK rescues claiming to be "no kill" are definitely different behind closed doors.

The lady who is giving me the information has been involved in dog rescue for a number of years. With regards to the police, "keeping a watch on it" to me probably means going back in seven days to see if the poor dog's still alive.

Sadly, not a good outcome for this boy:

Thanks to everyone for their concerns with this dog. Sadly, although he was rescued from there, on the way to the vets the transporter felt it necessary to get the dog a vet check due to severe scarring on its head and unusual behaviour. To cut a long story short it turns out that the dog had a massive brain haemmorage caused by the severe beatings he had received and did have to be put to sleep. Poor boy never knew a loving home, only that he was removed from his hell is no longer suffering.

I feel sick reading this. The poor boy never knew love, that's so horribly wrong. RIP Boy; even if you didn't see it, there were people who cared.
