Title: Why do cats sit on what we are reading?
Post by: Karen V on March 29, 2007, 16:47:02 PM
Anyone know why is it cats always sit on what you are trying to read? Or even something you are tryign to use like a sheet of kitchen roll?  Its as if they know and are trying to wind us up!  I think theres a science behind it somewhere coz all my cats have done it!

If you ever find out the answer to this perhaps will let us all know, because I think the answer has not yet been invented.

Bilbo and Ollie say it's because we shouldn't be reading or trying to clean we should be paying attention to them as cuddling a cat is far more important than anything else in the world.

ill shall have to throw out all my books and stop cleaning forever then coz i cant have my little furbabes thinking im not cuddling them enough! lol

i remember when i was in america i saw a calander and it was called "why do cats?" and it was about why they do certain things and on the cover it said why do they sit on what we are reading, along with other crazy things they do.  it didnt give the answer on the cover, and i was between either this one, or a bad kitties calander and the bad kitties one was tooooooo cute so i went with that one instead.  oh how i wish id bought the two! lol

It is very difficult when you are on the phone booking an appointment and the cat is sat on the page you need to write on and you are trying to move the cat gently  and the person  on the other end of the phone wonders  what you are doing  huffing and puffing.

Sometimes we have to read thing to enhance our knowledge of cat care, of course we would not read anything for our own pleasure. ;D

I actually think I read it on a link posted on this forum that cats like the sound that newspapers make as it tunes into their hunting skills or the sounds that prey make or some such nonsense.  Truthfully I think it's because they don't like to be ignored by their mommy's and daddy's and need attention and adoration 24/7!!

That makes a lot of sense, Maximina. That crackly, paper noise would sound like a mouse in the undergrowth.

Swampy hits short cut keys on this keyboard when I'm typing and he's wanting attention. Usually keys I didn't know existed, so am getting informal IT lessons from my burmese hooligan!  8)
He has, however, deleted 3 long emails quite recently.....plus even he can't work out how to reactivate my hash or euro signs on my stuffed keyboard which, for some strange reason, is full of cat hair

Magpie was a terror for sitting on any paper or magazine I tried to read.  he'd just walk on to it and lie down.  To this day I still like to buy my monthly cat magazines when I'm out shopping and can go and read them over a coffee in starbucks where I'm free from feline intervention!

edited to change eat to read

Susanne, I take it you were trying to READ your paper or magazine rather than eat it as in your post!  I had a good laugh at that!!!

I'm never allowed to read anything without a bum being poked in my face (from the cat that is)!

Samantha keeps putting her paw on the mouse and clicking it. I think this is cos I keep moving it about. But maybe she's trying to switch my laptop off!

I do embroidery although not that much since getting ill but one I was doing was on a big frame and Amber was a total nightmare. Apart from getting between me and the frame so I couldnt see what I was doing she also would spend ages running from one side to the other to watch the needle and try to catch it.

I never did finish that embroidery
