Title: cats eating dogs food
Post by: angel-77 on March 31, 2010, 18:14:17 PM
I have changed Marley's food to Pedigree complete as she was bored of the Bakers she was having. She is a funny eater, takes a mouthful then walks into the hall to chew it.

In between her doing this both Tia & Oscar have been eating it too, they have both just eaten a pouch of Whiskas grilled each so its not like they are starved!!!

Will it harm them?

Could I maybe persuade you to change from a food other than Pedigree, or Bakers  :scared:

As for eating dog food, Memphis will eat it given the chance. So I make sure he can't get to it. Is there any way you can separate them until Marley is done eating. Maybe make it so Marley cannot get into the hall.

what would you recommend?

I had heard that bakers was the 'mcdonalds' of the dog food, hoped pedigree would be ok though.

It's a race for me to dish up the dog food and feed it to them before Bacardi finishes it off on the side before the dogs get it.  Luckily once the dogs have their food, no one gets a look in and it's gone within 30 seconds.

yeah. Pedigree and Bakers are as bad as each other. Lots of additives, colourings and Sugar. I have no idea of your budget, but JWB, Wainwrights, Chappie, CSJ, Wagg, Arden Grange, Wafcol would all be better as less additives. Some of those are at the Pedigree price range others more expensive.

A vote for Arden Grange here  :) feed cats and dogs on it and they all do wonderfully. Orijen is another i really like... i've tried most of the premium brands of dog food, all caused one or the other of my dogs to have some sort of issue except those two. ;)

We have a lot of attempted food swapping in this house too  :innocent: Ginny in particular thinks nothing of snatching dog biscuits right from under their noses  and Lucy fits under the stairgate and sneaks upstairs to eat the cat food. (and the tasty presents in the litter tray but the less said about that the better :-[  :evillaugh:)

Chester only likes Winalot.  :tired: He'll have the occasional Chappie when he's got a jippy tummy but largely it's just Winalot.  :innocent:

Chester will also scoop up a mouthful of food and carry it into the livingroom to eat it. We figured it was a dominance thing - only the higher members of the pack get to eat in front of the telly.  :evillaugh:

I used to feed CSJ CP21, then Arden Grange and now Orijen. Omg I love Orijen it smells divine but at £55 it is eye watering. Molly absolutely loves it though.

Memphy has in the past tried to pinch food from her bowl whilst I'm dishing up, or sticks his head in it before she does. He tries to pinch treats from the treat box all the time. And when she has something like a tripe/pizzle stick he hangs around like a bad smell. I'm really mean though and don't tolerate his behaviour. He tries, but always fails  :evillaugh:

It comes to something when I can leave cat food out and Molly wouldn't dare touch it, but leave dog food out and Memphy would try to eat it.

Capone eats Buddys dog food. I don't think he particularly likes it, he's just a greedy poppet.
