Hi
Crossposted from Cat Chat.
Heather who is with a West Mids branch of a rescue have been advised of a cat with a vets who has tested FIV+. He is un-neutered and suffering from a broken pelvis and the vets are saying they cannot keep him and he should be PTS. The cat has not had any treatment yet and the branch will pay for all treatment e.g. x-rays etc for the broken pelvis and also the neutering.
The rescue is in the West Midlands Brierley Hill area and they are full. They urgently require help finding a foster space to save this cat - otherwise the vet is saying PTS Friday 2 April 2010.

If anyone can help please contact Heather by e-mail.

Hope that someone can help xx

Thanks Janey - hope someone can help and that it was OK to put in this section.
Bearing in mind Friday is Good Friday and then the Bank holiday Mon, I suspect that this cat has only until Thursday to be saved. :'(
Also if saved, with a broken pelvis he will be going under pen/cage rest which should make it easier for someone, hopefully.

Yep, fine in this section

No responses tonight  (except for you Janey )
Hoping someone will see this thread or the one on CC tomorrow and be able to help this poor cat :'(.
-
I do hope so Edd

Come on please there must be someone out there :wish:

I really wish I was closer! I would take him in a heartbeat, I spent all night worrying about this little chap. I wouldn't necessarily be able to keep him long term as Benji is happy at the moment as an only cat, and my fiance is happy with an only cat, but I would be able to take him out of this deadline situation and look after him until he recuperated (or until my fiance and Benji fell in love with him) its just getting him here, I'm in Ashford, kent, 3 hours or so away!! its a bit of a journey for a poorly cat and I can't drive :( I hope someone else can help soon!

Angie is the only rescue I know of in that area but I know she has a lot on her plate with kittens right now. Maybe she should suggest anywhere else to try?
-
I have e-mailed Heather that I can emergency foster for a short time until a rescue place becomes available. Waiting to hear back from her.
-
Yes, I emailed Heather yesterday as well but Kent is a long way for a healthy cat, never mind an injured one. So I'm hoping someone more local can help. Kate

Yes, out of area is not ideal, especially in his condition but better than pts. I am in Leicester, a bit closer than you. StreetKatz. I am happy to take him until he is fit to travel further. Waiting to hear from Heather.

That's great!

To everyone who has responded, especially those who have offered help to Heather. :thanks:
Moira - Hope you hear from Heather soon - bless you
Will be delighted to hear that this will be sorted soon and the cat will be safe.

Latest update from Cat chat:
Just a quick update - we are arranging for the cat to be xrayed tomorrow to see how bad the damage to its pelvis actually is....if its really bad then the vet may make the decision to pts if he feels its in the best interests of the cat (I will say though that our vets NEVER do it unless they are 100% sure its the right decision).
We are all hoping and praying that will not be the case...and if all is ok then at the same time as he is under the anesthetic he will be castrated.
I am in email discussion with two very kind people at the moment about possibly being able to take him so continue to keep everything crossed. I may be back on here though appealing for help with a transport run!!!
Keeping everything crossed for the little one xx

Jeepin everything crossed and hope that the cat will be OK

Hope this poor boy has his op and it all goes well and he gets a lovely forever home - will be thinking of him tomorrow and keeping everything crossed for him.

Keeping everything crossed that the damage to his pelvis is not too bad :Luv2:

Any news yet -had this on my mind all day today :scared:

Heather has just posted sad news on Catchat:
Unfortunately, I'm not the bearer of good news as this poor little boy was pts this morning...
I am feeling really down about it as I had 2 wonderful people off this site come forward to offer their help....but unfortunately when the vets x-rayed him it wasn't just a broken pelvis, his hip joint was completely smashed beyond repair and therefore they felt he would never regain a good quality of life so the kindest thing would be to let him go quietly whilst under the anesthetic.
Sometimes being involved in cat rescue is really hard...today is one of those days :-(
thanks for everyone's help with this
:( RIP little one xx

All I can say is at least he wasn't pts because of him being FIV+, shows there is some hope for the FIV kittys out there :) Sadly his injury had let him down and it does seem kinder to let him go :(
RIP Little one xxx free from pain now x
