My Leo has been abit under the weather for the last few days. He does not eat much and sleeps alot.. I have managed to get him outside a few times and he seems fine and enjoys a bit of a walk, but its a sruggle to get him motivated. He seems to be using the tray okay and does eat a litte but no where near his usualy perky self.. Just sits by the fire and nods off..
So i have the hingsight to book him in the vets for Monday under the impression if he gets perkier i can cancel it..
I wonder if this may be related to his infection a few wks back that cleared up with antibotics.. Although he seems to be using the tray fine..
His eyes seems okay and he does respond to his name, so maybe just a blip in his general good health. Fingers crossed.. I will open some tuna today to see if that makes a difference. He did eat some sardines on Friday and a bit yesterday and is drinking .
All very strange.
-
Fingers crossed it is nothing serious Sharon.
-
Hope that Leo picks up soon xx
-
Poor Leo. I hope he perks up soon. I can sympathise with him about lack of motivation at the moment. It hasn't put me off my food though. :)
-
:get well: Leo :care:
-
Lots of good vibes foe Leo
-
Aww, hope he perks up today and the vet visit tomorrow is not needed
-
He has some tuna lunch time but is now asleep again! Will see if i can get him in the garden for a quick walk around in the sunshine
-
Vet thinks Leo has painful joints!! He had full bloods and is remarkably fit for his age and no problems with bloods. So he is on Metacam and some new joint recovery tablets for a while to see if he perks up. He has failed to eat much today as well, but apparently if cats feel pain they do not eat much.. he seems brighter today and has ventured into the garden. His coat is glossy and no problems with anything internal..
Just getting on abit!! If this works he may be on meds to help..
Anyhow i nearly keeled over with a 126.00 pound bill. Thanks goodness he is insured.
Around 10 yrs ago Leo suffered a very severe broken pelvis due to someone kicking him.. He was lucky not to loose a leg.. But he has coped very well with this and you would nt realise that he had such a major op on his leg to fix it.. It needed 2 operations. So i suppose the weakness in that joint has caused this and its to be expected in a older cat i suppose..
Anyhow will see if we can get him eating abit more when the meds kick in
-
Aw bless him, hope the Metacam works for him and he feel a bit more spritely
-
Hope the meds work for him
-
Hope Leo is soon feeling better
-
Hope he gets back to normal when the meds kick in.
-
poor Leo, glad its nothing too serious
-
Glad it is nothing too serious, but I would try and wean him off the metacam and keep him on glucosamine supplements. What are the new tablets, I might try them on Zi
-
When the vet saw Alice last week he said that he doesn't really want her on Metacam if it can be avoided. He also said keep up the glucosamine.
I know Leo is very active which should help? - has he dragged any bunnies through the flap lately?
I have to take Alice into the garden a couple of times a day to get her to have a little stroll but I know your two are quite active outdoorsy cats.
-
Yes id did say i was notkeen on long term use of Metacam.. But at the moment we just have a months supply.. I was given Nutraquin plus tablets that are a new product apparently. Made in Canada and to give them in place of metacam if we can.. They ar however nearly 40 quid per 60 days worth...! I hope the insurance pays out on such meds.. I tried last night to see if i could google them but so far have not managed to find them on a UK site.. This may not be what they are called online anyhow. Still.. at the moment he still has not eaten very little..
Vet told me that you can only get them from the vets but they were not prescription drug..
At the moment Mark.. i have to encourage Leo to go out. I was told i should see some improvement in a wk..
Otherwise go back..
-
I think your vet might be taking the pee.
I found the UK website. It says their products are only available through vets. Looking at the ingredients, they have the same ingredients as any other glucosamine supplement with a bit of vitamin C and zinc added. No other magical ingredients. http://www.nutravet.co.uk/node/27
This has the same + extra things and I bet it is a lot cheaper. It has Glucosamine Sulphate rather than hydrochloride. Some say one works better than the other.http://www.vitabiotics.com/jointace/omega3_formula.aspx
There may even be another animal one with zinc and vitamin C in.
-
Thanks Mark... Leo seems alot more active this afternoon and has had some cooked chicken and wonder a round in the garden.. So at least we are moving in the right direction
-
Is he any better on the metacam? Gooey started on it in november and it has really helped, hes on an every other day dose now its warmed up a bit and so far so good ;D
Its not ideal giving regular metacam but its so good at what it does, its alright using supplements but they dont work for chronic pain, which we all know cats are v.good at hiding :( they need proper medication for arthritis not supplements, theres no point living a longer uncomfortable life when they can chase leaves in the garden with metacam :Luv2:
-

+2 (Blip and I).
-
But Metacam can also shorten their life - Zi had bloods done 8 months apart last year, and went from fine to CRF - she had only been on daily Metacam for a couple of those months with occasional metacam for the rest of the time.
-
But Metacam can also shorten their life
Yes, but I would rather Blip had a shorter life free from pain than a longer life in constant discomfort. I would make the same decision for anyone I loved and for myself.
-
Poor Leo is not much better. In fact his joints seem fine and he is walking around okay, but he still have hardly eaten anything and is so quiet and subdued...! Whether Medacam has this effect i do not know, but its pointless giving him the herbal stuff if i cannot get him to eat much.. I have cooked chicken today and he still oky looks at it and hardly seems to eat with gusto.. A call to the vets tomorrow i think.. and maybe a day off the Metacam (i want do it tomorrow) to see if he improves.. Maybe its making him sleepy and lethagic... I do not think he have ventured out eh door much at all today even his sister is more lively then Leo at the moment.
I will try another bit of chicken later on today, but he just does not seem fussed. Getting a bit worried about my boy now..!
-
Poor Leo :( if you're unsure I would think the only way to find out is to leave him off the Metacam for a couple of days and reintroduce it and see what happens, hope things pick up for him
-
Thank you! Leo had quite abit of sardines for tea so that is good..But yes, i aim to not give him any tomorrow and see if any difference for a few days, but will ring the vets anyhow..
-
But Metacam can also shorten their life
Yes, but I would rather Blip had a shorter life free from pain than a longer life in constant discomfort. I would make the same decision for anyone I loved and for myself.
I wouldnt do it to a young cat, unless it was incredibly severe, I would much rather use supplements instead.
Sharon - never noticed a cat be subdued from Metacam, but all cats react differently.
-
Sorry hes not any better sharon, i also wonder if the malaise is not joint related, stomach upset is the normal reaction to metacam.
Have you tried applaws chicken? Finger feeding that to simon was what got him through his poorly patch
But Metacam can also shorten their life - Zi had bloods done 8 months apart last year, and went from fine to CRF - she had only been on daily Metacam for a couple of those months with occasional metacam for the rest of the time.
Could that not be down to age anyway tho?
Theres a alot of negativity towards metacam when its the only thing for the job, any human who suffers joint issues can say how much it knocks on quality of life, they certainly wouldnt just take supplements for chronic pain!
-

Pain is pain, however old you are. 'Supplements' won't stop pain. I hope no-one ever withholds painkillers from me when I need them, Des
-
According to the meacam info, loss of appetiate is a side effect... However, Leo ihave never been a big eater and has remained very constant in weight. 4.30 kilograms.. He seems fine with tummy issues, and uses the tray okay... He does manage to jump up on top of the sofa settee and on my bed last night.. He does not seem in pain, no flinching and his joints do not seem warm.. He does however seek out the heat and loves being nr the fire..I did manag to get him to eat a good plate of sardines but he refused chicken.. I have tried nice and very expensive food. Appallse food isnt sold locally.. I will have to buy online .. I have not seen any of our vets stock it.
Anyhow.. when i asked the vet what is the typical treatment for joint pain in cats seems as though metacam is it really.. Although someone mentioned acupunture as being of help... to support such conditions. But no vet locally does this.. Anyhow..hope things improve soon
-
Have you tried the pet shop in the High St in Herne Bay (Sea Street?) - at the back, they have some posh brands. I know they have Almo Nature and some others.
I know for a fact Sainsbury's in Chestfield have it. It is sold under the name Encore in Sainsbury's but it is Applaws.
Poor Leo :ahh:
Make sure you give Metacam with food.
-
The thing I can always get mine to eat is Hi-Life pates and Gourmet pates and they love tinned salmon (a bit of oily fish is good)
-
i have a vet about 18 miles away who does this, not my vets but was recommended to me by a few. sadly not neasr you tho lol
-
One here in Bluebell Hill http://www.nkrvets.co.uk/our-locations?location=Kent
Another in Maidstone http://www.collegevet.co.uk/
It says this vet in Dover does it but not sure if they only treat horses - worth a call? http://burnhamhousevets.com/contactus.aspx
-
The Almo Nature fish tins are very good and certainly appeal to Blip: you can get trout with tuna, and mackeral on its own as well as various varieties of tuna. Leo might like those if he likes fish? I get mine online from Zooplus: it also sells Applaws.
How is Leo today, Sharon?
-
Leo has eaten abit today, but i rang the vets and he going in for an xray on Wed..!
Earlier we did enjoy a brief visit and walk around.. He is now asleep in the conservatory
-

Theres a alot of negativity towards metacam when its the only thing for the job, any human who suffers joint issues can say how much it knocks on quality of life, they certainly wouldnt just take supplements for chronic pain!
It could be, but her drinking was noticeably more when on Metacam, hence me stopping it more than once before allowing the vet to persuade me to put her on it daily. And yes, I do suffer with chronic joint pains, and do try to cope without painkillers whenever possible as your body becomes used to them, and then needs higher and higher doses.
The other problem with using Metacam is the situation I am in with Zia - Metacam has likely caused the CRF, but because she is on MEtacam, it limits treating CRF, as you can't give Fortekor (the two react and make the kidneys worse), and as Metacam is known to kill kidney cells, it will speed up CRF - not something I would want to put a young cat through if supplements can help them have a good quality of life.
There is also Onsior available now which isn't as harsh on the kidneys, which while only licenced for 7 days, can be used off licence on a one week on, one week off basis (as long as you sign a disclaimer) - the tablets aren't that big, but Zi twigged after 3 days.
Good luck with the xrays on Thurs Sharon.
-
I just looked up Onsior on Noah with a view to trying Alice on them but the contra's seem pretty much the same as with Metacam

Positive vibes for Leo today.. We did have a little foray into the garden yesterday and he managed to jump the ditch behind the aviary for a nose.. I suppose he ate just under one pouch of Whiskars yesterday and a small bowl of chicken.. But of course i cannot give him anything this morning due to his xray.. I have not heard him miow in a few days so that is not a good sign. Siamese are always vocal.. He know also has a sore eye.. I hope, very much hope its all sortable.. he is very precious to me...! Not known him to be so down in the dumps since his had this pelvis injury around 8 yrs ago..
Mark i found out that Lady Dane Vets in Faversham does acupunture...Which is much closer, if a little out the way to get to...and the lady vet left a message on my pnone last night. So much more prompt then the Dover one that took 5 days to get back to me!! Just need to get there if my own vet thinks it may be worth it and also that we are not barking up the wrong tree with joint issues.
-
That's interesting Mark, as my vet said it was supposed to be kinder on the kidneys than Metacam.
Good luck for today Sharon
-
Hope Leo's vet visit goes well.
-
That's interesting Mark, as my vet said it was supposed to be kinder on the kidneys than Metacam.
Good luck for today Sharon
Maybe it is a bit? but it seems to have the same kind of warnings. I would imagine that all vets would switch to it if it was that good?
-
Lots of good vibes for Leo
-
Bad news!!#My precious Leo has to loose a leg the dodgy one has a tumour in it..Of course we ware doing as much as i can to give him a great chance of a happy life for the rest of his days.. So i had no other option. Xrays revealed it has not yet spread to his tummy,,, so we hope that is right but this gives me a good chance ...
I am deverstated... Really in shock and feel terrible.. That he may of been in such pain.. The vet said the leg was on the verge of fracturing again.. Its a back leg and he is in good health with bloods.. So please, please send positive bives for Leo who will be operated on tomorrow and i hope we can pick him up on Friday...
He means a lot to me!
-
oh Sharon I am so sorry to hear this, I never imagined it would be anything like this - poor Leo
-
Sorry Sharon
On the bright side, it could have been a lot worse if it was somewhere else. They do recover quickly from amputations as you know. Not nice though :(
-
Sending you all my love and positive vibes hun
-
So sorry to read this Sharon, sending lots of love to Leo and hope all goes really well tomorrow xx
-
So sorry Sharon but if this saves his life its the best
I have 3 legged Ducha and he must have lost his back leg the year before he came to me because how he uses the remaining back leg has changed and it seems to be more central now. He puts both front paws on the edge of the litter tray to do solids but normal for liquid.
He is so fast across the ground and up and down stairs but he cant jump so high and he is a featherweight.
I am sure that once Leo has recovered and got usaed to it he will be absolutely fine
-
Positive vibes for Leo xxx
-
Thanks all.. I just hope that nothing else can go wrong and i feel bad not being able to see him before i left.. But he was still sedated...It was too late to do today...
Thank good ness i took him back again...! Thank goodness it is the leg with the injury...
I just could not bare losing him....
I doubt i will get much sleep until i know he came through it all okay.. He is on pain relief tonight and will be in their tomorrow.. So i hope, hope that i can pick him up on Friday.. and give him losts of love..
What a horrid day.. Bella is wondering where he is and she was the one with the ongoing condition...
I did ask about chemo as well.. and the vet said they would look into that for me.. But lets hope that the xrays prove right and there is no spread...I do not think i could bare to see him any different from the cat i love to bits
-
  Sharon
-
Will be thinking of you both
-
  Poor Leo - I can understand how worried you must be but try to look on the bright side - his bloods are good so he will come through the op fine and as Gill says they do adjust well to amputations. Sending lots of positive vibes and everything crossed that it hasn't spread.
-
Sorry Sharon  all the best for Leo's op tomorrow, thinking of you
-
Sending lots of positive thoughts for his op tomorrow

-
Just to let you know I'm thinking of you and Leo, Sharon  Let us know when he comes round from surgery
-
Vets have rang to say that Leo got rhough surgery okay and is recovering.. On pain relief and meds today and i am to ring with update 4ish... But so far to good... Providing his pain relief okay he may be able to come home tomorrow.
I have been worried sick and hardly got any sleep last night with worry, that something terrible will happen... This is just the first hurdle though...but thanks for all your support..
Bella his sister is lost today and very quiet... Will make x special fuss her when its lunchtime...
-
Vets have rang to say that Leo got rhough surgery okay and is recovering..
Good news indeed, Sharon  You must be very relieved that the first step in Leo's recovery is successfully completed
-
I'm really pleased to hear things have gone well Sharon, have been thinking of you both today.
Having been through this myself with our Smokey I know just what you're going through   for you and Leo xx
-
Delighted the news is so positive
-
glad all went well Sharon - I think its harder for us seeing them like that than for them, Leo will be back to his old self in no time I'm sure
-
Glad it went well - onwards and upwards for little Leo
-
Good news. I hope he can come home tomorrow.
-
i phones again earlier and he is doing okay.. will be given some food around 6ish.. And i will be ringing again noon tomorrow.. so see if he can be let to go home. But i would rather he is comfortable before that and not rush as it will be weekend sd my own vet only has Sat Am surgey and not open on Sundays. I told them to take care of my precious puss.
-
Poor Leo - sending loads of vibes for him. xxxxx
-
Glad the news is positive Sharon and sending lots of healing vibes for Leo to be well enough to come home tomorrow.  Can understand your worry about the weekend though.
-
Thats all really positive, fingers crossed Leo can come home tomorrow.
-
Glad the op went well, and hope he had a good settled night
-
Great to hear he's come through surgery ok, hope he's home ;with you soon
-
Glad Leo has come through well and is recovering .
Hope he can be home with you very soon.
Lots of healing vibes for the brave boy
-
Sharon so glad that Leo has come through phase 1
Hope he is able to come home today then you can start breathing again
-
I am glad he has got through the op OK, it is amazing how quickly they bounce back, and Pebbles could still outrun me on 3 legs!! Did they say what kind of tumour, as I know when Tiger had suspected cancer in her knee, they said that kind of cancer was a very slow growing one that didn't tend to spread very quickly, so amputation was a cure, so hopefully Leo's is similar and this will cure him.
-
Wasnt expecting to read all this! Fingers crossed hes home for the weekend sharon :luck:
-
Leo is now home.. He has collar on and is on loads of meds.. He also has a sore eye that i noticed when i took him in on Wed. Turns out he has ulcerated it and therefore needs eyedrops as well.. But he is now in my kitten pen in the hallway. With blankets and fire on to keep him wwarm.. Has not really eaten much but that is to be expected and has just given himself a good wash...He needs to go back on Monday to check stitches and dressing (and his eye).. But seems comfortable.. I am not sure i could trust him not to jump on the back of the sofa so i hope he will be okay in the pen.. I expect he needs another day to get over the operation drugs.. I have cooked him some fish for tonight...
But at least he was home..
The bill was 630 quid which i thought was very reasonable.. Considering the meds he is on.. and the xrays.. done on Weds.. Keep sending those vibes though.. I hope he eats more tomorrow, but i assume he has been on fluids for the last 2 days so that generally keeps them full until it wears off.
-
Give little Leo a gentle ear tug from me, Sharon.
-
Hopefully the worst is over now, the boys send magical healing headkisses Leo's way :care:
-
Pleased he is home;I am sure he will amaze you with the speed of his recovery.
-
So glad he's home. Sending lots of positive vibes for a speedy recovery.
-
awww, so pleased he's home again, hope he's a good boy with his meds
-
I'm glad he's safe home :Luv2:
-
wishing Leo a speedy recovery and a long life lived to the full
-
Glad to hear that Leo is home again sending lots of love and get well wishes his way  xx
-
Glad Leo is home , hope every day makes him better and he lives a long and healthy life .
Also hope he is good at taking his meds .
-
Glad he's back and on the mend :)
I tried to phone you today but it went to voicemail - you must have been picking Leo up.
-
So pleased he is home and well - I had to have Pebbles on cage rest for 10 days following her amputation, although I did carry her up the stairs and put her on my bed for a change of scenery.
-
Leo was so good last night.. He has had abit of food but not alot..but i still think the meds are in his system.. He is currently sleeping but i did have him in the conservatory earlier for a change of scenery... Will temp with some chicken later.. But he finds it very hard to eat with his buster collar on...His eye looks abit gunky but it odoes not seem to cause too much problem for him.. He has managed to use the litter tray and Paula has lent me her CP puss radiator bed for him tonight.. Although he is very nr the fire in the hall way.. But its abit colder today.. was sunny earlier but not know..
He has had a good wash but the dressing did not last that long, its still on him, but shifted position.. But best to leve well along.. So are things are not too bad
-
:) Really pleased to hear that Leo is doing well
-
I always give cats some time off the buster collar while they eat - as long as they are easy to handle to put back on again.
-
Sorry I've not posted before Sharon ... but I have been following the thread and am sending lots and lots of gentle head rubs and get well vibes to Leo.
-
So pleased Leo is doing well

Oh my, poor Leo. I'm glad he is doing well and is home. You must be worried sick about him.
I had a bit of a tumour scare with Widget a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully his lump turned out to be a cyst, but for the 3 days waiting for the op and the hours waiting for him to come round (he's 14 years old and it took him ages to wake up) and the day of frothing at the mouth due to a bad reaction to the aesthetic were some of the most worrying days in my life.
I hope that Leo has a fast and full recovery and it turns out that the tumour he had was benign.
Good luck Little Leo, Widget and I are both sending you love, cuddles and happy healthy vibes. :Luv:
-
Glad to hear Leo is home and doing well
-
How is Leo today Sharon?
-
Leo is doing okay! He isnt eating a great deal but then again he isnt doing much and still lots of meds.. But has had some tuna and prawns today.. He has had the dressing taken off and his eye looked out .. All looking not bad...Stitches out in a wks time (next Tues).. Is allowed abit more access now but no jumping up and down. The vet seemed pleased with his progress..
-
That sounds really good, give a little hug from me please
-
That sounds really good, give a little hug from me please
And from me.
How are you feeling yourself, Sharon?
-
Glad to hear the gorgeous Leo is eating well and the vets are happy with his progress :Luv2:
I think we will need to see some pics of the handsome lad when he is feeling up to it ;)
-
I am hopefully going to Sharon's tomorrow so will take the camera if I remember :evillaugh:
-
Well Leo sat on my lap while having my early morning tea this morning. He is now sleeping...he has not eaten muchthough, but i suppose its still early days...things to take a bit longer when they are older...He is still on meds the vet said to use Metacam rather then the stronger, pain relief he has been on (morphine type)..I find it really hard to judge what i should be expecting at the moment, he isnt very noisy, loves a nice stroke, but is sleeping a lot and still not eating vast amounts (but drinking and using the litter tray okay). It is after all only the 5th day.. I have left his collar off while i am around as he seems to be very good and does not seem to have a go at the stitches...He also sleeps on his missing leg side which he maybe would not do if if it hurt a lot..He wraps himself round in a ball and has a sleep.. I will try later on with some cooked fish i did earlier...
-
I have a few fish4cats 99% Salmon pouches which are high in Omega 3 which is good for cell renewal (and therefore healing) I will bring them with me later. Clapton said Leo can have some of his Royal Canin beauty pouches as well, which are also high in Omegas. They also have egg in which is good for cell growth.
-
Sharon, it sounds like he is coming along well. If I'd had a limb removed only 5 days ago I would not be being so friendly and sure as heck would be sleeping all the time. Give him a cwtch from me and Widget.
-
I'm glad he's home and recovering :Luv:
-
Sounds like Leo is doing well
-
I saw Leo tonight. He had a little bit of RC Intense Beauty wet food :Luv2:
-
Sleeping is good Sharon .... his body will be using all it's energy to repair and heal and like you say if he was in pain or discomfort he wouldn't sleep or curl up so I guess all the signs are good  :Luv2:
-
So pleased that Leo is home and doing well
I think that it takes two to 3 weeks to start getting back to normal but prob should take about 6..............I know that Desley knows cos she had a cat who had to lose a leg.
Slowly slowly is best
-
IT didn't take PEbbles 6 weeks - she had cage rest for 10 days, the first thing she wanted to do after that was go out, but I wouldnt let her. She managed the stairs within half an hour, and the bed within a day, so I let her out after 2 days. Mind you, she got out of the cage when I tried to give her some company the day she came home, which would have been 2 days after her op.
-
My goodness cats are amazing, I just couldnt remember Desley
-
How's the patient doing today?
-
Leo has to go back to vets today for checkup.. He is dong okay just things take longer for an older boy. He has lost some weight which was my concern but seems to be doing well today with eating.. Have taken him off metacam and he is allowed free reign of the house now... He is asleep in the conservatory today and has to go back on We dor stitches to be rehomed.. I think i
So far so good for the old boy and he seems to be coping with 3 legs... Does not seem to be in discomfort and his eye is getting better.. But it may take another wk or so.. He has not been outside yet, but did manage to get out side the catflap the other night and caused me to have kittens!! Jumps okay and with some help seems to be okay with getting onto back of sofa... Is drinking fine and has used the litter tray...He seems more alert today.. The vet was happy with things.. just hope he picks up with his eating and puts on the bit he has lost
-
It does sound very encouraging, Sharon, and I'm pleased to hear the little soldier is doing so well
-
Glad things seem to be going OK
-
Glad he is doing better ;D
If he was having vetergesic for pain it could have made him feel quite groggy, milly had several days of it and almost all the side effects
-
Really glad to hear that Leo is doing so well, he's a brave boy :Luv:
-
They do adapt amazingly to life as a tripod - Suki's a back leg short of a picnic (has been ever since I got her - ringing CPL for a moggie and saying you're a sucker for a hard luck story tends to have results like this), and when I rehomed her it wasn't long after the amputation, her fur hadn't grown back or anything - but she takes on stairs, has the most amazing routes worked out to get up to places she shouldn't get up to and things like that. When she encountered a kitten, she hoiked herself up on its back and used it as a stump rest! She was still pretty scrappy and would lean on you to keep her balance and things when we got her for a fair length of time.
The only real issue we've found is with it being her back leg - she can't "up jump" well at all because she's functioning on half the spring of a normal cat - while she can get on and off the sofa, she'd rather sit there and look pathetic and get a human to lift her up - and anything higher than that she struggles with... she can climb a cat tree but it's a somewhat ungainly and very unladylike process. The limp does elevate to oscar-winning levels when anyone gullible is in the vicinity too.
Hopefully it's the end of his problems.

Really pleased to hear that Leo is progressing well. Animals seem to adapt so quickly, they're amazing. I suppose they must just feel as if something is a bit odd, not really realise what has happened and then just get on with things, quickly figuring out what they can do and what they can't - one of the benefits of not being able to count I suppose!
My friend's (admittedly young) tripod manages to scramble over 7' fences...
-
My dear Leo is back at the vets.. He is on a drip as he is stillnot eating much... They are doing bloods againI made the appointment yesterday as he was very subdued yesterday and really had not eaten much in 2 days..But actually he seemed perkier this morning wanting to go outsdie. But i still went to the vets anyhow..
The vet mentioned "kidney" but his bloods where fine 2wks ago.. But i knoe that things change.. Still i am ringing later on 5ish if they do not ring before to see how he is.. At least i can take some comfort that he is getting something into him that may perk him up...
-
Fingers crossed for him Sharon, and that the bloods dont show anything too serious.
-
Sending lots of positive vibes for lovely Leo and a big  for you Sharon
-
Sorry to hear this, lets hope it just a small blip
-
Fingers and toes crossed for good results later  xx
-
I hope so as well..He was only on metacma less then 2wks before and after..with a reduced dose after.. I know that operations and stress can change things...he has not been sick..I have been giving him vegetable stock, some cat milk and water all the time for some variety.. When i took him on wed.. he was not dehydrated.. although not really eaten much, he has the days before.. It may be that he is bunged up.
Of course i can worry all i like but there is not much to be done... But i do feel for my poor fella.. I think the fact that he is a Siamese and they are quite sensitive to things does not help.. But i am glad i did take him down again..
Nothing ever seems straighforward in life at present.. I was going out today and tomorrow but have cancelled as not feeling up to it..
-
Let us know how Leo gets on
-
Best wishes for your boy
If anything has changed in his bloods i would suspect the GA
-
ahhh poor Leo .... fingers crossed it's nothing serious.
-
Lots of vibes coming your way
-
Sorry Sharon
If he isn't a great drinker normally and he hasn't been eating much, he will be dehydrated which will affect his readings.
-
Sending best wishes for you and Leo
-
The vet have phoned. He is staying in the night as it does not make sense to stop fluids and want to make sure he starts feeding.. His kidney levels abit high but not terribly...He has had something to stop him feeling sick and something to drop his temperature.. Which seems to be working.Although he was never sick at home..Vet says it may take a few days to get any toxin build up out his system and he is being syringe fed as well as liquids.. He has a hot water bottle and is comforable..
Although I would love him home, he has to be abit brighter and eating otherwise it just means another journey to the vets. And the fluids do take a while to work.. So i am calling them around 11ish tomorrow..
But luckily my vets is now open all Sat and AM Sundays.. Which makes a huge difference to things..I think he is in the best place..
All the stress and worry has done me in this week as well. I am tired and worn out an proably have not eaten much myself this week.. At least i know whatever can be done to get him well is being done!
-
I do hope that Leo picks up, it must be a huge shock to the system losing a leg and agree with MM.
I can so understand how tired you are cos Franta does that to me every time he is ill.
-
:( Sorry to hear about Leo Sharon, he is in the best place and the worry will have taken it's toll on you too. Hopefully he'll be starting to feel better very soon
-
Sending Leo love, huggles and healing vibes and big  for you Hun xxx
-
Fingers crossed he is perkier today. Did they do a full blood count, as Metacam can cause anamia?
-
Just arng the vets and heis okay, but still not really earing on his own. His renal bloods were abit high but not amazingly. A good sign is that he is more vocal today.. and his temperature is about normal.. They are managing to get some food into him and he seems to be very good, but not as yet eating on his own.. Maybe it just takes time for him with all hie has been through.
The vet said he seems comfortable and is on meds to stimulate appetite, still on fluds..and antibotics as well.
So i suppose some improvement in his general character...its not quite 24hours yet. And the vets did say he maytake a bit longer then a younger cat would. So i just hope and pray that he starts to eat on his own...once all the meds and fluids have helped..
So keep sending positive vibes Leo's way
I am ringing again at 5ish..
-
Glad to hear Leo's a bit better Sharon :) hopefully he'll start to gain his appetite and strength again soon, he has been through a lot
-
I feel terrible! I have just come back from the vets.. leo isnt so good today and the vets think its something else then just kidneys.. He was drugged up and hence not really responding.. he still isnt eating and overnight his temp fell and they had him all wrapped up to get it back up again.. He was not the Leo i know and loved for 14 yrs and i feel very tearful....
He is on drips and today they have put him on a antiidepressant... They are ringing me at 5ish with update..
The worry is that he may not be able to maintain his temperature...which is not good.
Tomorrow they hope to do a scan (which does not need an anthitetic) to see what is going on.. I dread it.. i really do... I cannot tell you how emotional i feel to see him so down.. He is still being fed..I took him a head pad for him and his blankets with some food and chicken.. But he was not interested.. I spent a good half hour talking to him and giving him chin rubs... Why he was perkier yesterday and not today...
All together a reall emotional rollercoaster... and my poor Leo just has to be strong and brave.. I am doing all i can to help him. But there is something else going on...my heart sinks to worry what it is.
-
Aw, Sharon. I'm so sorry!   He's in the best place and they will do everything they can. :)

-
Vet nurse rang to say he is brighter this afternoon and temp back to normal.. He is abit more reactive.. Have given him lots of warms things and he has a fire right by his cage to keep him warm and the heating in the surgery still on... Not been sick and has had a wee, but still not feeding himself.. Being given special food that is easy palatable.. The nice vet nurse is going back at 9ish to check on him.. But someone will be around 8am tomorrow... So i hope he keeps his temperature. Not really vocal though as he was yesterday.
Tomorrow they are going to scan him and see what if anything they can find.. Whatever it is i hope something can be done to my special boy and that we can get to the bottom of him not really eating. Its good that his temperature has returned he just needs to maintain it really..
So another sleepless night.. I have really been through the wringer lately and feel drained...
So everyone pls send all the positive vibes and thoughts to my beloved boy who i love dearly

Hello all.. I lost my beloved Leo this afternoon.. Sadly nothing could be done for him and i had to let him go. He was one AMAZINGLY puss cat that has been with me from some really rough times lately, and 14 yrd ago i would never imagine what joy he would bring to my life. In Siamese terms he was one of a kind and i had the honour of being his owner for those yrs. I will always remember his quirky manner, his vocal miow and his companionship. Never did i imagine 14yrs later i would be saying goodbye.
Puss cats are special but Leo was a rarity in the feline world. He was one in several million and i miss his already and so does his beloved sister Bella.
My brother is bringing him home and he will be buried nr the woods where in his young days he sued to catch rabbits in early spring. I will plant a tree in his honour and one day i will look back over the last few weeks and not cry tears of sorrow.
Leo... please remember i loved you very, very much. I just wish in my heart i could of given you a few more years of life. But it was never meant to be. I have had siamse all my life and they are all so special and unique. They broke the mold when they made you!
Play hard and enjoy the rabbit hunting, keep warm, keep safe and run free
Leo RIP

A huge thanks for all your messages and PMS... Leo is still missed and i find myself still calling him, esp when i am putting food down for Bella.. We are getting over things, Bella seems to be finding feline companionship with other puss cats and it may be that after my hols in June i consider taking on some more Siamese puss cats... But at the moment its just us 2 girls!
We buried Leo right nr the woods where all the spring flowers are coming out. Today has been beautifully sunny and i can just imagine him sititng down in the grass wairing for the unwary bunny to come out and eat.
Leo you are grately missed by all..
