My Mums cat Korky was to the vet's getting his injections a few days ago and was diagnosed with a heart Murmur :(
does anyone have any experiance / knowledge with this ?? I am refraining from looking on the net for answers :scared:

My cat Tyler was diag with heart murmour in December at annual check up. Vet just keeping eye on it and she has
to go every six months for sound. She had x ray whenin for dental and her heart slightly enlarged on one side. Was told to watch for panting and if she stressed or lethargy. no medicine given . I think murmours are scaled

Someone posted recently with this query Stuart so I've cut and pasted my reply to that one:
Our Squeaky had a heart murmer all his life we think he was probably born with it. They are graded and his eventually got up to a G4 and although the vet said he'd probably need treatment eventually for it he never did, quite a few peeps on Purrs have or have had cats with this condition infact there was a thread about this which I've found and this may help :

thx folks, mum didn't go into much detail about it, i.e. grading etc :(
but Korky isn't losing weight, He's Solid and weighs a ton :shocked: i would verge on saying overweight :doh:
Gee I forgot about ex's GF mums tortie :doh: she was 22 ait like a horse and was still skin and bone

our old cat bluto had one - he lived until nearly 15 until taken by kidney cancer

Stuart you have met our Ginger Fluff Phoenix now aged nearly 8 with a grade 4 heart murmer - vets gave him 6 months so thats why he came to us - still hale and hearty no medication and he seems to pace himself as to what he does - still hunts and loves the sunshine
Sometimes its a case of monitoring them
The late Jazz our JRT has the highest and the vets were a bit grim and said 6 months tops - under the Clan care she had another 2 years and trained her "boys" before she went off to the bridge. Sky the Black and white came with one and we were worried now aged 3 his heart is fine no issues in fact vets couldn't hear anything and they always start with his heart and now nothing so lets hope Korky will be fine with monitoring :hug:

Max was diagnosed with a slight murmur during all his tests for kidney/thyroid, but it never needed any treatment as I think it was only very low grade.

Tom was diagnosed with a heart murmur about aged 10 and almost reached his 19 birthday.

Heart murmurs are graded if your mum cant remember or vet never told her get her to phone the vet and ask what grade he/she says it is many cats have heart murmurs and never have a problem , if its a low grade dont worry too much just make sure she goes for her regular check ups so if any increase its picked up , ive had horses dogs cats with the same most no problem but i did lose a lovely birman girl aged only 7 under anesthetic :'(

If its low stuart dont worry, it was probably noticed due to stress. Dexter has a very low murmur and you probably wouldnt hear it in his normal calm state at home, the vets makes everything go faster!

one of my cats Ginger has a grade 4 murmur. He is impossible to give tablets to. He runs around like a mad cat, throws himself at the aviary, climbs fences etc you wouldn't know anything was wrong with him.
