Title: Very unpleasant smelling faeces
Post by: catherine on February 27, 2010, 15:34:59 PM
okay i have a problem...tigger recently today hasnt been himself. first he was sick, it was quite a bit, then shortly after that he went to his litter and omg.....it really did smell
im going to try and avoid as much wet food for him as possible but other than that does anyone have any tips? (taking him to the vet...id rather not)  :scared:

Catherine, depends how much "not like himself" he is. When you comment on the litter tray, was it runny? Something bland might help his stomach like white fish or chicken.

Catherine, there's no point beating around the bush with a question like this so I have amended your thread title for you

:evillaugh: It's true, but it makes me laugh how all us Purrs people just discuss poop all the time. Sometimes in polite company I'll forget it's not "the norm" and admit to things like knowing which of my cats has been to the loo by how smelly the house gets.... :shy:

We are a very strange bunch and no mistake  :evillaugh:

Hope Tigger's poo probs resolve asap.

Our Dingle RIP Oct 87 used to have the smelliest poos imaginable..... all her life. I used to be so very embarassed when picking her up from cattery after a holiday if she had just used the loo as I would know it was her as soon as I entered the indoor heated part of cattery  :-[ :-[ :-[  Amazingly they took her on for a number of our holidays

Nah - most people just talk sh*t: we talk about sh*t  :evillaugh:  Ours is the more elevated discussion, IMHO  ;)

Talking about sh*t has made Gillian McKeith rich and famous. I live in hope.  :sneaky:

In that case, I'll do the same... :evillaugh: How's Tigger today, Catherine?

Alice's poos come with a warning. When I walk through the front door, I can tell if she has a deposit in the tray, even though it is a floor down  - Clapton's are offensive in a different way as they smell like a stronger version of catfood. Kylie's aren't too bad and Willow's hardly smelled at all.

Smelly poo: most cats have this sometimes. Try a different food.

Being sick: some cats do this as a hobby!  Otherwise could be a sign of worms, furball etc. Imho it is only cause for alarm when the cat seems overtaken by the wretching, rather than "putting his/her back into it". Most of us know the difference between a cat who's trying to be sick and one who is really ill.

Also, the nature of the (sorry to say the word again!) sick itself is a clue to whether it's normal or something to be alarmed about; for example, feline infectious enteritis is horrid and yellow; furball has a little mouse-shape of fur in it, usually etc. Bear in mind that too much vomitting leads to dehydration. Does your pud drink after throwing up? (Normal.)

Sorry about all the  talk. Makes a change from the other end!

lol, just found this thread

I was only saying to OH last night that I know who is using the tray each time, not by the smell but the noise!!

Tia is a little OCD'ish when it comes to, her toilet, digging a perfect hole doing her business then spends ages making sure every millimetre is buried!!!

Oscar on the other hand just squats then half heartedly flicks a few grains around and leaves!!!

I even caught Tia covering Oscars doings yesterday!!!
